FLUID MAGAZINE I www.pirtek.com.au
WELCOME Welcome to the latest edition of FLUID Magazine. My thoughts go out to the PIRTEK-backed Western Sydney Wanderers and their fans. After making the Hyundai A-League Grand Final, they fought valiantly, however were narrowly defeated by the Brisbane Roar. In the good news department, the Wanderers are now into the final eight of the Asian Champion’s League after a stunning performance against a tough Japanese opponent.
The Wanderers are consistently one of the best supported teams in the A-League - selling out PIRTEK Stadium just about every other week. Being an expansion club, the fact they have been in the Grand Final two years in succession shows that the franchise is very strong and has an excellent foundation underneath it. It is a sporting outfit we’re very happy to support. On a positive note - it has been announced that PIRTEK Stadium will undergo a major re-vamp to turn it into a 32,000 capacity stadium. This is the first major renovation to the stadium since it began operations in 1986 and should make the experience for all attendees at whatever sporting event they attend more enjoyable. In the last quarter, the most successful PIRTEK Fishing Challenge yet was conducted. In full credit to Michael and Lisa Guest, the ‘sold out’ sign had to be put up for the first time ever! That this happened some weeks prior to the Challenge is encouraging as to how much we were able to raise for the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia. You’ll read more about the Fishing Challenge in this issue. PIRTEK USA achieved exceptional growth in the first quarter of 2013 - up nearly 25%; and the PIRTEK brand has expanded in Europe - with Austria now being added to the number of countries in which we operate. Speaking of America, last month we came to an exclusive agreement with Fast Fill Systems to become the sole Australasian distributor for their products. Fast Fill Systems is unique in this day and age being an American owned company, manufacturing American made products. They are good people, who produce great products and it remains a solid, privately owned business. In Australia, many of you will remember the presentation at the Annual Conference from Mark Tinley with regards to PIRTEK Oil & Gas. This is now operational with Mark and his team working overtime to ensure PIRTEK is at the cutting edge of this multi-billion dollar industry. To be in this industry is something very exciting for PIRTEK, as it has yet to realise its full potential for growth in Australia. You’ll read more about that this issue too. As a follow up to the previous issue of FLUID, PIRTEK has taken its relationship with Komatsu another step further, which is pleasing to all concerned. We’re coming to the end of what has been another very successful financial year here in Australia for PIRTEK, our brand presence is stronger than ever and we continue to roll out some exciting initiatives. Until next time,

Komatsu and PIRTEK have further strengthened their partnership
PIRTEK & KOMATSU EXTEND FURTHER Having made a landmark announcement in January, Komatsu Australia and Pirtek have taken the relationship one step further, the two companies increasing the supply and service relationship in Australia and New Zealand, with it due to extend into the Komatsu truck range. “In our mining excavators and shovels range, we will be able to offer genuine hose assemblies from Pirtek for our PC3000 and PC4000

machines from May, expanding coverage to our PC4000, PC5500 and PC8000 machines during the remainder of 2014,” said Stuart Moffitt, Komatsu Australia’s National OEM Product Manager.” “This will give our mining industry customers access to the higher levels of service and support, along with significantly shorter response times that we can offer through Pirtek’s 24/7 mobile service network – as well as access to more competitive
pricing for genuine Komatsu hose assemblies,” said Moffitt. “In addition, we will be expanding our genuine hose assembly capability with Pirtek into Komatsu’s truck range, as well as into Pirtek New Zealand as part of our longerterm plans during 2014 and 2015. “As a result Komatsu’s New Zealand customers will shortly start seeing the benefits of this landmark partnership,” he said.
WANDERGOALS NETS OVER
The Wandergoals initiative started with the PIRTEK-backed Western Sydney Wanderers A-League franchise has seen in excess of $37,000 donated to the Peter Duncan Neurosciences Research Unit at Sydney’s St Vincent’s Hospital.
$37K! his most successful season in the A-League with the boot. Whilst the Wanderers held the advantage for much of the Grand Final, going down to the Queensland Roar in Extra Time was a cruel blow, nevertheless,
the team has shown consistency - making the grand final two years in a row. Off the pitch, the Wanderers has the highest sponsor contributions of the League, the strongest Membership numbers and the highest average crowd per match.
At the end of the season, where the NRMA Insurance Wanderers made the Hyundai A-League Grand Final, $37,170 was donated to St Vincents. PIRTEK granted $1,000 for every goal that was scored by the Wanderers during the A-League season to the hospital, one of the leaders in Neuroscience research in Australia. At the end of the year, Tomi Juric was the most prolific goal scorer, netting eight goals throughout the course of the season, having

RECORD BREAKER Gorden Tallis got some expert tips from Michael Guest
The PIRTEK Fishing Challenge broke all records in March this year. For the first time in history - the biggest one-day fishing competition in Australia was a complete sellout! Testament to the commitment of Michael and Lisa Guest to the competition, not one more entry was available for purchase a few weeks before the day. A record amount of prizes - over $150,000 - were up for grabs as well with the number of corporate partners for the challenge increasing. For a full wrap and all the winners, turn to page 11. PIRTEK LAUNCHES OIL & GAS DIVISION
Entering the Australian oil and gas industry is a logical progression for PIRTEK given the projected growth of the industry in the Australian market between now and 2020. With Western Australia, the Northern Territory and North Queensland being the stronghold of the Australian gas industry, PIRTEK Oil & Gas is based in Perth to easily access the major offshore oil and gas projects in that area. Currently, the multi-billion dollar industry represents around 2.0% of Australia’s total annual Gross Domestic Product, by 2020 this is expected to increase to 3.5%.

PIRTEK has appointed a 35-year veteran of the industry in Mark Tinley as General Manager of PIRTEK Oil & Gas. “Carrying PIRTEK’s reputation as a market leader in the fluid transfer solutions industry across to the oil and gas industry brings with it an outstanding competitive advantage,” said Mr Tinley. “The oil and gas industry requires suppliers to develop products to meet the most extreme conditions known to humankind. The specifications are incredibly stringent and it needs a methodical, almost clinical approach to minimise risk.
“PIRTEK Oil & Gas has the practical experience and professional expertise in providing not only hose assembly supply, but also comprehensive Hose Management Services to meet all client requirements. “We aim to do this through a multi-step process that ensures each of our clients is serviced and audited regularly to avoid failure and therefore costly downtimes.” By its very nature, the oil and gas industry requires very specialised attention and has a number of demanding needs, including transfer of materials as diverse as
cement, fuel, potable water and drilling materials to offshore facilities via floating hose strings from supply vessels in adverse conditions. To meet these requirements, a very robust range of hose assemblies, complete with crimped end fittings, floats, breakaway and dry disconnect couplings have been specifically developed by PIRTEK Oil & Gas. In launching PIRTEK Oil & Gas, Executive Director, Glenn Duncan says this specialised, joint venture will play an important role in the future growth of the company both in Australia and as an international business. “Australia is also a world leader in terms of occupational health and safety when it comes to the oil and gas industries. The products that PIRTEK has researched and will now launch to market without doubt will continue this trend. “The service provided by PIRTEK at a franchise level is well known by our customers across multiple industries in Australia and enjoyed by many more around the world. “By applying that diligence to the oil and gas industries, we have the opportunity to grow our business in line with the projected growth of those industries in the coming years.” The full catalogue for PIRTEK Oil and Gas can be accessed here: http://www.pirtek.com.au/ catalogues/general-flyer/

services that make our end users’ lives easier,” said Stephen Dutton, CEO PIRTEK Australasia.
American owned Fast Fill produce innovative fast-fuelling products for diesel and other heavy power units, all manufactured in the USA.
Importantly, through leaving no pressure inside the full tank, far higher levels of cleanliness can be assured, thus improving safety for end users.
“Fast Fill Systems is known around the world for its ability to create solutions in the diesel industry that save clients’ time and money and also deliver on enhancing employees’ safety and protecting the environment.
The 113 PIRTEK Service and Supply Centres in Australia and New Zealand will distribute the Fast Fill Systems products. The products from Fast Fill have been built to withstand the harshest conditions, whether that is the Antarctic or the oppressive summer heat of central Australia.
Under the agreement with Fast Fill USA, PIRTEK technicians will also be responsible for Nozzletech re-builds, which is more than just cleaning parts and lubing seals. Prior to reinstallation, a Nozzletech re-build process includes troubleshooting, fitting on new parts, polishing and powdercoating
The company was established in 1998 as ‘Nozzletech’. It specialises in pressureless quickfill units that improve safety by reducing and eliminating potential environmental hazards.
Like PIRTEK, Fast Fill remains a family owned affair - headed by founder, Dean Mackey and his son, Ethan - along with a small, young team dedicated to improving innovation in its industry.

PIRTEK FISHING CHALLENGE - A SELLOUT! 8,556 anglers from around Australia threw a line into the water for the PIRTEK Fishing Challenge in late March to raise money for the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia. This year’s PIRTEK Fishing Challenge was a sellout for the first time ever and the numbers attracted across the board was extremely pleasing. The diversity of those registered for the Challenge this year was something that stood out to co-ordinators, Michael and Lisa Guest. It continues to attract an increase in female competitors and also junior registrants. The reports coming in from around Australia indicate that
many families were enjoying the opportunity to get out on the water in every state to participate and raise money for a very good cause. Incidentally, the biggest fish of the day officially caught was a whopping 123.8cm Barramundi - caught by David Hamilton in Rockhampton - in the old scale, it’s a tip over four feet long - yep, that’s a bloody big fish! HISTORY MAKERS WANDERERS CREATE AUSTRALIAN FIRST IN A-LEAGUE The PIRTEK supported Western Sydney Wanderers became the first Australian major sporting franchise in history to make two successive Grand Finals in its first two years of operation when it lined up against the Brisbane Roar in the A-League Grand Final. The Wanderers put in an inspired performance for much of the Grand Final against the Brisbane Roar. After a tense opening 45 minutes, both teams allowed the match to
flow a little more in the early part of the second stanza. The Sydney team was the first on the scoreboard much to the delight of the 10,000 supporters that made the trek north when Matthew Spiranovic headed in a goal from a Shinji Ono corner in the 56th minute. Just six minutes later, the red and blacks were dealt a cruel blow when Captain, Nikolai ToporStanley was taken from the field with a knee injury.
Spiranovich was in the action again as The Roar’s Thomas Broich edged the ball towards Besart Berisha - only to have Spiranovich forcefully deflect what was on target for a goal. With four minutes of regular time remaining, Brisbane’s high powered internationals would not be denied again, bringing the Roar back to even. With on-field intensity and crowd participation at fever pitch, both teams had their opportunities in the

final moments of regulation time to win the crown, however neither could get the ball in the back of the net.
They have now made it to the final eight of that Series and with the A-League behind them - anything is possible.
With tired legs on both sides, the extra time period opened up and would reward attacking play, however Brisbane’s Brazilian substitute, Henrique broke the deadlock after 108 minutes of play, handing the Roar its third A-League Championship in the last four years.
The club has the strongest regular season average crowds - virtually selling out PIRTEK Stadium for each home match and the strongest (in revenue terms) sponsorship group of any A-League franchise.
The Wanderers end the 2013/2014 edition of the A-League with its head held high. They have taken major strides forward within the A-League structure and indeed in the world of Asian football with performances in the Asian Champions League.
Having made the Grand Final two years in a row and yet to own the A-League Championship - the entire team and its supporter group are keen to make it third time lucky next year!

BRISBANE BRO PIRTEK’s relationship with iconic National Rugby League team, the Brisbane Broncos has got off to a solid start.
Josh McGuire charges ahead
Currently they sit deep in the top eight, however with the tight nature of this year’s competition, the table is changing week to week. The PIRTEK-backed Broncos have been at the centre of the action throughout 2014, with some tight but good wins over Title front-runners, the Bulldogs and the Cowboys to get the season underway. Their most emphatic victory came against the Newcastle Knights, running out victors 32-6 over the Easter weekend in Newcastle.
It’s always good to get a win over the Roosters!
On the flipside, the Broncos have been on the receiving end of some of the closest matches throughout the season, just missing the rub of the green. The loss against hometown rivals, the Gold Coast Titans arguably hurt the most, with the Broncos having led the majority of the match - which has been one of the highlights of the NRL season to date.

Similarly, a two point down against the Rabbitohs could be considered one that got away, particularly with a couple of questionable refereeing decisions.
Sam Thaiday offloads against the Eels
The team was saddened early in the season when one of their young stars, Jharal Yow Yee retired from Rugby League. Yow Yee had sustained one of the most sickening leg injuries of all time last year in a game against the Rabbitohs in Perth last year. He made a solid recovery and tried to make a strong comeback to the sport, however the injuries were all too much for him in the end. Heading into the difficult State of Origin period that begins on Wednesday, May 28, the Broncos are sitting good on the ladder - with other teams that traditionally have their players drawn heavily to the New South Wales or Queensland squads sitting around the Brisbane side. V8 SUPERCARS ACTION HO The PIRTEK Enduro Cup is shaping to be a pivotal moment in the V8 Supercars Championship later this year. Early in the season, no clear favourite for the Championship can be identified with a number of new faces at the front of the pack and some old heads suffering some drama in the early stages. The dominance of Jamie Whincup and Red Bull Racing Australia would appear to be under threat, with a number of technical issues costing the usually flawless Triple 8 Racing team. The most notable was a power steering issue that struck Whincup during the V8’s only offshore race this year, the ITM 500 at Pukekohe (NZ). The four time Champion sits a lowly sixth on the points ladder, although did show his typical dominance in the opening Clipsal 500 race and in Tasmania. The surprise points leader after New Zealand is Pepsi MAX FPR driver, Mark Winterbottom. The factory Ford squad battled early in the season, however after a victory on home soil, the Melbourne-based team has

struck some excellent form. Young star, Chaz Mostert - who joined Winterbottom this year - saw a turnaround in form in New Zealand and got himself onto the podium. It was announced earlier in the year that he would be partnered by experienced driver, Paul Morris during the PIRTEK Enduro Cup. The excitement machine in the V8 Supercars category this year has been 20-year-old Kiwi sensation, Scott McLaughlin. In the season opener at the Clipsal 500, the youngster took his brand new Volvo Polestar Racing S60 right up to Whincup and then memorably swore on national television in his post-race interview. Since then, McLaughlin took the first victory for Volvo in the non-Championship Formula 1 Rolex Australian Grand Prix support races, however has yet to recapture that early season form. The venerable Craig Lowndes continues to rack up points and sits second behind Winterbottom, whilst another pair of Kiwis are also in the hunt. Lockwood Racing’s Fabian Coulthard has stood atop the podium on occasion throughout
the season as has V.I.P. Petfoods star, Shane van Gisbergen. A surprise victor in the second Saturday race at Winton was Lee Holdsworth in the Erebus Motorsport E63 AMG. It was the first win since colourful identity, Betty Klimenko brought Mercedes-Benz into the
OTTING UP held between he and Adrian Burgess - who was famously poached from Triple 8 by the Walkinshaw/HRT clan - has seen the Holden team singing the right note. With much discussion on the future of the sport with Ford and Holden electing to stop manufacturing vehicles in Australia, Holden affirmed recently that it would remain in the sport, extending its long term deal with Red Bull Racing Australia.
The pressure is now on all teams in the leadup to the PIRTEK Enduro Cup with limited testing available between events and track time on Friday’s cut due to saving costs, which eliminates co-driver time. This will ensure that come Sandown, the action will be red hot! For all the V8 Supercars news and the latest on the PIRTEK Enduro Cup, make sure you visit www.speedcafe.com.

MULTI-MILLION DOLLAR UPGRADE FOR PIRTEK STADIUM PIRTEK Stadium is due to undergo a $120 million makeover that will turn it into a 32,000 seat venue. It will be the first major upgrade to the venue since it began operations as Parramatta Stadium in 1986. With the growth of the Western Sydney Wanderers A-League club and housing the Parramatta Eels, both tenants met with Venues NSW and the Parramatta City Council to greenlight the planned upgrade. As part of the radical proposal - the contemporary design of which can be seen in the associated images - the Eels will have a new training, rehabilitation and high performance centre within the precinct. The capacity of PIRTEK Stadium will increase by almost 12,000 and provide a modern, world-class stadium in the Western Sydney region.

New Zealand coach, Stephen Kearney praised the efforts of his team despite it being the eighth
consecutive loss to Australia. He cited this match as an opportunity for his team to build some respect back into the black and white jumper after the World Cup final last year. “From our point of view and in terms of the New Zealand rugby league jumper – things didn’t go so well (in the World Cup final) and I guess it was important for our next outing to get some respect and pride back into our jumper,” said Kearney. “I thought the lads did that tonight. I’m certainly not disappointed.” Five young debutantes lined up in the PIRTEK-adorned jersey, including 22-year-old back rowers Ben Henry (Auckland Warriors) and Tohu Harris (Melbourne Storm) - who came in at a combined weight of 210kg. Going into the match, New Zealand was decimated by injury, making their performance against
the crack Australian team all the more impressive. New Zealand was the first to cross the line with a Jesse Bromwich try after six minutes converted by Shaun Johnson. The Aussies struck back with two quick converted tries before Harris scored the Kiwis’ second. Sam Moa placed four points against the black and whites’ pointscore just before the half hour mark, with Johnson confirming their lead through slotting the conversion goal. It wasn’t until well after half time that Brett Morris crossed for his second try for Australia to draw even the scores and then the green and golds got on top of the PIRTEK New Zealand boys with tries to Greg Inglis and Cooper Cronk - both converted by Johnathan Thurston - to complete the 12 point victory. It was the 16th straight victory for the Australian team - putting the current crop on par with the legendary ‘Invincibles’ of the early 1980s.

Although going down in the end, the young Kiwis were buoyed by their performance, which ended 30-18 in favour of the Australians. The dedication of the New Zealanders was far stronger than the last time the two sides met - a 34-2 drubbing by the Kangaroos in the World Cup Final in England at the end of last year.

GREATEST SHAVE PIRTEK Illawarra (NSW) participated in the annual Greatest Shave for a cure in the last quarter and were surprised by a visit from Nathan Hindmarsh. Staff and customers of all ages got into the swing of things - with Hindy taking to the clippers himself to deliver some interesting head artwork! Despite many offers, PIRTEK’s Eels icon couldn’t be convinced to be attacked by the shearers himself, maintaining his legendary locks, but made a suitable donation. The PIRTEK Illawarra team raised over $4,000 for this worthy cause.

GORDEN TALLIS Whether you’re underground in Mount Isa, in Cooktown or Coolangatta, you become really proud to be a Queenslander. You see the Maroon jumpers all over the State, even pilots on planes you travel on are wearing them. Before State of Origin as we know it now, Queensland had been beaten for 70 years, then Arthur Beetson came back and wanted us to be a bit more proud of our State. I think Queensland will win the first game by eight and will win the Series 2-1, but hopefully we can wrap it up in the first two. I think New South Wales don’t have the combination together that will work just yet. Mal (Meninga - Queensland Coach) just has the same side to work with - there’ll be no mistakes, we know the combinations, we know what to expect.
We asked Mal on Triple M if he was dizzy over selections and positions and his response was simple: “No I have no headaches. Billy Slater will be at fullback, Greg Inglis will be in the Centres, (Manly rising star) Daley CherryEvans will be at number 14 and we’ve got Cooper Cronk at 7.” Mal is loyal, he knows what he’s got to work with and who fits into their roles. I would like to see another big man step up for Queensland. I mean we have Matt Scott, but we need another 110kg guy to come in that can play some quality minutes. I think we’ll win it 2-1, but you can never be too sure in Origin. The first game is a bit scratchy and you don’t know where things will fall. I think the second game is always the best game and then you get to the third game and you’re back to being nervous
STATE OF ORIGIN PREVIEW Our two State of Origin legends, Queenslander, Gorden Tallis and New South Welshman, Nathan Hindmarsh recently sat down with each other for a chat about the upcoming State of Origin Series. The pair had plenty of good natured jibes between each other as they looked forward to the first big clash this week! again - because the Series is on the line. But the first two games, you don’t know. My tip is that Matt Scott will be awarded the Man of the Series medal.
NATHAN HINDMARSH State of Origin is always tight, it’s never too far between the two teams. It was nerve wracking coming in, also nervous heading into the second game. Some people reckon it’s set up that one team will win the first game and the other will win game two, but it’s not. Absolutely no way. You get nervous before every game, but especially that second game. The New South Wales selectors have had a tough choice, there’s a few changes that they had to make coming in. It hasn’t always been the way for New South Wales to chop and change, when I came in, there was always familiar faces when you rolled into camp. If you look at the Australian team, the majority of the major positions are held by Queenslanders.
Jarryd Hayne will be the bloke to create the opportunities from fullback. He was good in the World Cup in the Centres, but I don’t think his fitness in defence is where it needs to be consistently to be taking on Queensland. Fullback is his favourite position and he’s good from there and is proven from there - I think it is his game. Selectors had a tough choice for hooker with Robbie Farah being out for some time with injury in the leadup. Between the two that were likely to be chosen, defensively, I prefer Mick Ennis’ defence, but Robbie has the edge in terms of creativity from dummy half. With two new halves in there (Bulldogs pair Josh Reynolds and Trent Hodkinson), they will have a bit to do, but they know each other’s games extremely well and will be ideal in tight close games,
which has been pretty much every win for the Bulldogs this year. Front rower James Tamou has been playing some great footy for North Queensland while Trent Merrin I think is a good addition to the bench, he’s been a handful of late. Tony Williams has been playing well. T-Rex, the way he’s playing now, coming off the bench for a 10 minute burst into halftime is a valuable asset, so too Trent Merrin, I think he deserves to be there. As for a tip, in the first game, I think Queensland will win at home - if you had’ve asked me three weeks ago, I would have said New South Wales, but Billy Slater and Cameron Smith have started to find some form, which is scary! To wrap up, I think that Paul Gallen will be awarded the Man of the Series medal.
