ON THE COVER The cover photo features advanced cosmetology student, Brittany Lee. Brittany, who has always had a passion for doing hair, will finish the program in November. What she likes most about the program is getting to meet so many different people. She hopes to start her career working in a salon and then gain the experience she needs to open her own business. The Cosmetology Program at Pitt Community College (PCC) is one of the most distinguished and affordable programs in Eastern NC. PCC, in partnership with Mitchell's Hair Styling Academy, offers 1500 hours of training through classroom hours as well as supervised practical experience. Students can earn their required cosmetology hours and be eligible to sit for the North Carolina Cosmetic Arts Board licensing examination in just one year! Students will acquire a thorough knowledge of hair styling including cutting, shaping, and coloring as well as an understanding of facial treatments. Our program has a 100% pass rate and excels at preparing students with the basic fundamentals and technical skills to be a cosmetologist and pass the exam. We also work closely with the PCC Small Business Center to equip our students with the knowledge and skills to run a successful business. We care about the success of our students and want to prepare them for the workplace and help make the transition into the real world as smooth as possible. Students wishing to be accepted into the program will need to have a high school diploma or equivalent, pass the placement test, complete a student data form and registration form, and pay tuition. Tuition is unbelievably affordable at just $186.25 a semester for 4 semesters. This means starting a new career quickly without having to worry about student loans to pay back! Additional costs will include uniforms, books (approximately $214), and a cosmetology kit - which can be purchased through Mitchell's at a cost of $995.10 for the deluxe or $615.25 for the standard. We also accept transfer credits from other programs by providing the necessary transcripts. The Cosmetology Program at PCC is an amazing opportunity for anyone interested in hair and looking for dedicated instructors to assist them in their preparation for a successful career. HUMAN RESOURCES DEVELOPMENT (HRD) It is important to know exactly what employers look for when hiring full-time employees. The Human Resources Development (HRD) program is designed to help you gain the necessary skills to find employment or improve your current work situation. The biggest dilemma people find when unemployed is knowing what to do first. Not only can we help you with the steps necessary to find a job, we will also teach you how to articulate your value, highlight your skills, and present yourself effectively in an interview. A fee waiver is available if you meet one of four criteria: > Are unemployed > Have received notification of pending layoff > Are working and are eligible for federal earned income tax credit > Are working and earning wages at or below two hundred percent (200%) of the federal poverty guidelines For more Information contact Mary Higgs (252) 493-7576 or Instructor Holly M.
