WHAT IS PIXALUX速? Pixalux速 light panels are an innovative lighting product for architectural, commercial and retail design applications.
速
The innovative aspect of Pixalux速 light panels is the ability to use a lighting source as a direct structural element.
PIXALUX® FEATURES Even light distribution Pixalux® light panels emit light evenly across their entire surface
Frameless Unlike other light panel products, Pixalux® light panels do not require a frame as they’re structurally sound
Robust Pixalux® light panels are solid bonded sheets of acrylic making them stronger and more durable than comparable light sources
Thin profile 16mm
Pixalux® light panels are only 16mm thick making them discrete and easy to integrate
Low power consumption Pixalux® light panels use ultra efficient LED technology
Cool running Pixalux® light panels do not emit heat from the panel surface because they’re edge lit, making them ideal for sensitive environments
Adaptable We can fit Pixalux® light panels with a variety of different Pixalux® specific LED types to meet user needs
®
HOW DOES PIXALUX速 WORK? Pixalux速 light panels are LED edge lit light panels. Patented technology enables the light input along the edge of a panel to evenly illuminate the entire surface of the panel. This a more efficient method of lighting as it enables a large area of light from a small input. The soft diffused light produced from this process is far more desirable than a
typical point source light which can cast large shadows and are harsh on the eye when looked at directly. Pixalux速 light panels are structural because they are made from solid sheets of acrylic bonded together, eliminating the need for bulky frames or supporting structures.

INSTALLATION EXAMPLES Pixalux® light panels can be configured to suit a wide range of applications. This page contains some examples of how to install panels using standard Pixalux® accessories and off the shelf components.
Installing a cantilevered wall shelf 1. Use a Pixalux® compatible cantilevered shelf bracket 2. Use a Pixalux® light panel with a U profile with side exit or back exit cable 3. Only mount where at least 2 wall studs are available 4. Make an entry in the wall behind the bracket for the power cable 5. Feed the cable through the bracket and wall before slotting the panel in to the bracket
Retrofitting a bracket shelf 1. 2. 3. 4.
Use a Pixalux® light panel with a U profile Specify a side exit cable Run the cable through the bracket mount Ensure the panel is secure by using lipped brackets or through a high grip interface
Mounting to an overhead cabinet 1. Use a Pixalux® light panel with a dual H extrusions to replace the existing panel 2. Screw through the H flange into the bottom of the cabinet walls 3. Exit the cable through the backing wall 4. Ensure the door covers the installed panel which will add 1mm the bottom dimension
Over hanging display 1. 2. 3. 4.
Use a Pixalux® light panel with an F extrusion Ensure the panel is fixed to the extrusion Screw through the extrusion flange in the material below Use mounting tape or a second bottom lip to secure the panel firmly

INSTALLATION TIPS To aid in the installation of Pixalux® light panels, please consult our list of installation tips for best results.
Recommended installation guidelines
• • • •
Utilise the available Pixalux® extrusions which have flanges specifically designed for mounting Ensure panels are supported every 600mm Use available off the shelf hardware such as aluminium angles or channels Avoid cutting or drilling through panels
Drilling • • • • •
Always drill using a high speed metal or acrylic bit Pilot holes should be equal to the core diameter of the screw Use a screw with a fine and shallow thread such as metal screws Screw at a slow speed Screw using a low chuck setting
Cutting • •
Use a fine tooth saw blade such as a blade for metal or plastic Use a high cutting speed
•
Ensure the panel is secured firmly, both faces should be clamped
Modification examples 1. A through hole creates a small bright zone 2. Two sheared screws close together create a dark spot 3. A single screw creates approximately 270o of bright zone with the remaining 90o as slight shadow behind the screw

HANDLING Pixalux® light panels are a unique structural light panel made from acrylic that transmit light. Whilst our panels are strong enough to bear a load, they are still a lighting product that is extremely sensitive to any changes. As such, the panel should be treated like glass when handling to avoid any damage. Transport Pixalux® light panels are checked, and packaged securely from the factory to ensure that they pass our stringent standards, and aren’t damaged in transit. 1. Always check the packaging prior to opening; note any damage or defects in the packaging which could have occurred during transit, as this could cause damage to the panels. 2. Exercise due care when opening the packaging. Avoid sharp knives as panels can scratch. Panels are wrapped in foam and packaged in cardboard, but this will not protect against a sharp knife or similar instrument. 3. Handle the panels as you would glass. Hard impacts, knocks, or bumps, could damage the bonding of the panel. 4. Do not place heavy objects on the panels.
Handling Pixalux® light panels are sensitive light transmitting products that also contain sensitive electronics in the form of LED’s. Due to the fragile nature of the products, we recommend handling the panels like glass. 1. Always carry panels in a vertical orientation to avoid bowing. 2. When moving, watch for people and obstacles as panels may be long and cause injury or be damaged. 3. Observe correct material handling procedures. a. Always carry large panels with more than one person b. Always lift using your knees to avoid back injury

Storage Prior to using Pixalux® light panels, it is recommended that they are stored carefully to avoid any damage. 1. Always store in a cool, dry place. 2. Always store panels on a flat, evenly supported surface to prevent bowing. 3. Ensure that panels faces are protected from hard surfaces and sharp edges to avoid scratching. 4. Always place a padding layer such as cardboard between panels when stacking. 5. Keep cable exit clear.

CARE & MAINTENANCE Cleaning Pixalux® light panels may be used in an environment where they become dirty, or are exposed to frequent contact, thus requiring cleaning. For best results, please follow the cleaning guide recommended by Pixalux® Manufacturing Australia: 1. Make a cleaning solution by diluting methylated spirits, glass cleaner, or detergent in warm water 2. Dampen a microfibre cloth with prepared cleaning solution 3. Ensure that the cloth isn’t wet as liquid ingress can damage the panel 4. Lightly wipe over any marks with the cloth 5. Rub the stain repeatedly to remove more stubborn stains For additional cleaning, we recommend dampening a cloth with undiluted methylated spirits. Where there are fixed particulates, use a soft plastic edge to scrape the stains off.

Preventing damage and wear Although Pixalux® light panels are a structural product, the surface can be scratched, chipped or damaged if not used correctly. To prevent any damage to the panel we recommend the following: • Avoid using the panel in a high traffic environment • Avoid displaying heavy, hard, or sharp objects on the panels • Do not use outdoors • Do not submerse or wet the panel or it’s components • Only used recommended cleaning procedures • Use a layer of toughened glass, perspex or a laminate to protect the panel surface if it must be used in a rough or high traffic application such as retail display shelving
