ANOTHER ENGLAND CALL UP WITHIN OUR WALKING FOOTBALL TEAM
A huge congratulations to Steven Fort who has now played in 3 international tournaments representing England. With the highlight of his achievements playing in Malmo in November beating Sweden, Norway, France, and Denmark along the way. At the age of 72, sport had always been high on the list of priorities, playing for numerous amateur football teams right up to the age of 50 until a ruptured Achilles tendon led to a brief break from activity. Just over 20 years ago Steven was diagnosed with prostate cancer and after a period of recuperation, decided to get fit again and took up cycling, running and fellwalking. Football seemed all but a distant memory until some impromptu drinks in the garden with one of our members Paddy. Suggesting a way to become back involved with the beautiful game. In Steven’s own words he wasn’t impressed by the idea but agreed to be polite and accept the invite, Steven duly arrived and was surprised by the energy, skill levels, enthusiasm and friendliness and was immediately hooked. Spending a lot of time in Spain these days, Steven plays for Calahonda but still represents Harrogate whenever he can. It is such a pleasure to have members like Steven, knowing he is Proud To Be Town and flying the flag in Spain. We wish him the very best for his International call-ups in the future.
YOUTH ENGAGEMENT ROUND UP
National Citizen Service (NCS) this Autumn has seen young people from Harrogate take part in lots of different outdoor challenges, allowing them to bond with new people and create lasting friendships whilst gaining skills for the future. It was great to see them all braving the cold and pushing themselves outside of their comfort zone! Also, over the past couple of weeks, we have been in and around our local community completing our exciting Christmas projects. It was great seeing so many familiar faces participate in festive games and activities at our Christmas Hut. Furthermore, we have been working alongside multiple charities such as Supporting Older People and Young Carers where our NCS Changemakers have been fundraising and collecting donations. James Pocklington explains, “To see the change in the young people is truly amazing. They have taken responsibility, co-ordinated activities and can be extremely proud of themselves”. The Duchy Hospital Launches Private GP Service
Do you find it difficult to see your GP at a time that is convenient for you?
Dr Jason Jones will be seeing patients at The Duchy Hospital, giving time for concerns to be discussed. We also offer a comprehensive GP led Health Screening service.
I’m very happy and excited to be joining the team at The Duchy and providing some Primary Care services. Being based within the hospital will also give me access to all the hospital’s facilities, services and consultant colleagues. This should improve the patient journey if any secondary care referrals are needed.
