Peter Kirby Portfolio 2011
Hello and welcome to my 2011 edition of my portfolio. There has been a few changes due to work with an agency I was with in the summer of 2010. 2010 hasn’t been my best year not much has gone to plan but this has made me more determined than ever to put things right and get myself back on track and where I want to be. Ever since being made redundant from Prosider Magazine on the 27.01.2010 and not having anything to show for my three month stint with them I got back onto the job trail and managed to find myself 2 weeks work with an agency completing the frontend code for a website and creating design leaflets for clients and a branded invoice for another client. Since 31.08.2010 I landed myself a part time job working as a Sales Assistant for The Edinburgh Woollen Mill I started in Harrogate but now work in the new Otley store. After being out of work for so long I was given a confidence boost knowing I was employed over hundreds of other applicants. I’m still working for them now. I would now like to find something more challenging. So if you’re reading this then you probably have already read my CV. If not then here’s a little about myself. I’m nuts about my football and love supporting my team AFC Bournemouth. Why you ask? Well. Thats where I originate from. Simple. I did play for a team but have had to call it a day after a bad injury to my ankle so in January 2011 I will be taking my FA Level One Coaching course and I’ve already lined up a local Under 16 team to help with the coaching. Amongst my other skills include basic first aid, a sharp wit and a really dry sense of humour. The last two skills are qualities you can’t be trained in you either have it or you don’t. I’m not going to babble on any longer. I hope you enjoy my 2011 e-mag, and maybe I shall see you in an interview in the very near future.

Before we start, those of you who’ve never played or even heard of Monkey Island™ shouldn’t be alarmed by the fact that Tales of Monkey Island is considered by many fans of the game to be the fifth instalment of the genre. That, however, is also debatable. But don’t let this put you off. Tales of Monkey Island is set further in the future than any of the previous games, so has its own unique storyline. Plot: We join Guybrush Threepwood, a self proclaimed ‘mighty pirate’, in another swashbuckling tale of friendship, deception, evil and death. In the first scene of five chapters we find Guybrush on his ship attempting to rescue his beloved wife, Elaine, who’s been captured by the zombie pirate, LeChuck. In a bizarre twist of events, Guybrush somehow releases an
epidemic of voodoo pox throughout the entire Caribbean, for which he must find a cure. Along the way we will meet some new faces. We will also meet some old blasts from the past, not to mention a mad French scientist. So set sail to Flotsam Island, and let the adventure begin. Playability: Monkey Island™ has come a long way since the point and click original – Secret of Monkey Island – from 1990. The game makes good use of a few easy to follow controls: the arrow keys and the mouse. No more clicking ‘use’ ‘rubber chicken with pulley in the middle’ or ‘cable’ (an old in-game gag). A simple click of the mouse will do all the actions for you. This doesn’t take away from the puzzle-solving. Combining objects will help solve the sometimes
mind-boggling puzzles Tales of Monkey Island conjures up. Each chapter can take between two and four hours. This will depend on a number of factors. One being if you have ever played an adventure game before. The other, how well you can solve the substantial number of puzzles Tales of Monkey Island throws at you.

Outcome: Tales of Monkey Island is a game for old and young. After a long nine-year wait we are yet again introduced to Guybrush and his humorous wit and sharp tongue.
