I’m extremely excited and give you a warm welcome to the May Issue of PK Fashion & Lifestyle Magazine! hen I and my team set out to create a monthly diary that would promote health, fashion, style and deliberate living, one thing we agreed on right away was to steer for the glossy images of the too-perfect, product-driven magazine that we always look for. What you will find in the May Issue of PK is a collection of inspired and instructive articles written by real, honest, down-to-earth folks who work hard to live knowingly. Providing a respite from grim reality, PK thrived, offering a mix of fashion, interviews, comprehensive commentary and an insider view … in short… A recipe that survives today! Before we cross that threshold, there is a whole season of festivities ahead and we are here to share that with you. We hope that this month-issue with our exclusive round up of the hottest happenings around the town will become much spicy. As the month of May is supposed to be called the ‘Sizzling Season”… So we are proud to reveal an exclusive list of Pakistan’s Top 10 Hottest Models from our fashion industry, like those who really contribute at their best to enhance our fashion trade in a new level of success worldwide. Then next is something eye-catching as speaking of dashing personality, we decided to bring you the most up-todate male designer of Pakistan Fashion Industry in this issue, Munib Nawaz. We thought it would be easy, but we quickly realized that there are a lot of good looks and smartness while interviewing with him and to coordinate with him was quite a task. Still, it was a lot of fun in his conversation and we hope you would enjoy reading it as much as we enjoyed putting it together. Our showbiz pages

Describe your style??? It’s a mix of comfort masculinity classic with a tinge of rockstar edginess. How long does it take you to get ready for a morning meeting; and night out? Probably 20 minutes if I need to shave otherwise 10 minutes. What single piece of clothing do you love the most? Not a lover of clothing. My white shirts collection is very important to me. Between a rock and a hard place, what is your favorite gemstone? Not big on men wearing rocks. If I had to get one, then I’d love to get my hands on the rock of the moon… I have heard that it is accessible somewhere on earth. Are shoes boy’s best friends, or are watches and colognes? Everything is important while putting a look together. For me the priority would be cologne, shoes and then watches. You have hired many employees for your brand. Do you allow them to come up with their own designs, or do you guide them a bit? I am the Creative Director right now so I do guide the team in terms of the direction then they bring their sketches forward.

Who designed your designing dressing room? Are you happy with it, or do you feel you would have done things differently now? All my shop’s basic interior work is done by my wife, Rabya Butt. She’s great with the visual merchandise stuff although I do bring so many blockages in her creative vision by reducing budgets. But hopefully our next store she would be able to do whatever she wants to with more available resources. She is the only certified visual merchandiser in Pakistan and I’m glad that she pulls out so much in so little. Would you call yourself a high maintenance man? I’m not high maintenance. I just like the best of the finest things in life. What is your fitness routine? I’m a health connoisseur. I have very strict workout routines. I workout 5 days a week and relatively watch my diet as well. I’d like to believe that I apply my pursuit of excellence in all aspects of my life. What do you do when you really want to pamper yourself? Sleep :)
Munib’s Quick RAPIDFIRE! The best relationship advice I ever got was.......? Happiness is the key. Always keep that alive.
My biggest vice is....? Patience.
I am terrified of.........? My loved ones being in pain.
My biggest pet peeve......? Unmatched leather in menswear.
The most fearless thing I have ever done was........? Get married :-)
In 10 years I’d like to be......? A much better version of myself that I could be happy healthy and living inspired with my family.
My ultimate dream is: a) To win Global Design Award. b) To get bachelor again. c) To be a small kid. d) Other. Inspire. Better. Life. Style. That’s my life’s mission!
The coolest thing about being famous is: a) Getting free stuff. b) Not having to worry about paying my bills. c) Travelling the world to attend the fashion events. d) Other. Is the potential of influencing people around me to do better… PKFASHION&LIFESTYLE | MAY 2016

Tell us about yourself, what you do and how you got to where you are? I consider myself to be three things: A happily married wife, a loving mother and a very passionate jewellery designer. I feel honoured that I am a pioneer in the jewellery designing industry in Pakistan. I started designing in 1981, while I was living in New York as a hobby but after various requests from my family and friends I had my first exhibition in Washington D.C. Tell us about your design style. What makes your designs unique in the industry? Back in the 80s, I found Western jewellery to be very light and easy to wear but I found it lack in the style and intricacy that we find in South Asian designs. My work primarily focuses on fusing these two styles. My recent work takes inspiration from central Asian, Turkish and Egyptian design styles. What kind of person wears your jewellery? Independent-minded women with class and style. A huge chunk of my clientele can be found in major cities like Karachi, Lahore, Dubai, London, New Delhi and New York. Where do you draw your inspiration from? I love travelling to new and different environments as they inspire me to come up with fresh designs. My Turkish, Egyptian and Middle Eastern collections, for instance, became very popular. What is it like to see someone in the street wearing your creation? I feel great joy when I go out to a restaurant, social gathering or a wedding and

see a very glamorously dressed lady wearing my designs and carrying herself ever so elegantly. Who is your favourite designer? Coco Chanel. I have idolized her for as long as I can remember. What materials and techniques do you use in your work? I use 22kt gold, diamonds, polki, and various varieties of precious and semiprecious stones. My personal favourite is pearls. What kind of trends do you see today in bridal wear? Traditionally, bridal wear has been mostly about gold and diamonds and the trend has remained so subject to affordability. Silver is more popular for less formal occasions such as engagements, parties and social occasions. What advice would you give to someone getting into the jewellery design business? Be passionate about your craft, take courses in jewellery-making and get to know your stones, whether they be diamonds, precious or semi-precious stones. The Gemmological Institute of America in San Diego is a great place to study gemmology. What is your favourite piece that you have created? A design does not go up for sale unless I really, really like it. But these days I love to wear my statement necklaces with large carved stones, polki diamonds and calligraphy. Which one you would like to say, multi colours with artistic designs or plain with no stones trend for 2016? I think stones are very trendy and pearls have hit the market with a ‘Big Bang’. Long necklaces and long earrings, large rings, funky bracelets and headpieces are all very trendy in 2016. How can people approach your brand to buy? We have a store at Gulberg 2, Lahore. We have exhibitions in Karachi and Islamabad twice a year. We can be also be the contacted on our official website www.shafaqhabib.com and on Facebook and Instagram. We deliver online orders in Pakistan. PKFASHION&LIFESTYLE | MAY 2016

Do the clothing choices you make at work inspire your personal style? My clothing choices at work are a direct reflection of my personal style. Practical with a twist…! What do you love most about make up? That it can transform you and your mood completely! What are some common beauty mistakes that women make? n Choosing the wrong shade of foundation. n Contouring too low. n Skipping out on their eyebrows. n Lining their lower eyelid. What products do you think should be a staple in every woman’s purse? n Lip balm. n Pressed powder. n Mascara. n Lipstick. What’s your favorite makeup brush? Makeup Forever blender brush 242. What is your favorite item in your closet? A saree, my Nani gifted to me. It was hers and holds a great sentimental value for me. Tell us about yourself and your career so far, how did you become a hair stylist, makeup artist and an entrepreneur? I am a director at Depilex Group, which hosts the largest chain of salon in Pakistan amongst other brands. I joined in 2009 after having completed my degree in cosmetology from London and the US. I’d grown up in the salon and wasn’t until I went to study the field that I realized it’s much more than just the glamour, it’s a very in depth and vast field and I thoroughly enjoyed studying it. What challenges do you have as a stylist? The lack of understanding in Pakistan about our profession. Also the lack of professionalism. It’s hard to find… Who are some people that have inspired you throughout your career? My mother and an American makeup artist Kevin Aucoin.
If you could choose a celebrity closet to shop in, who’s would it be and why? Tilda Swinton, because she is by far one of the most subtly glamorous celebrities out there and her style is just to die for…! Everyone loves a good deal, what are some of your favorite places to find budget buys? In Lahore, my go to places are Muse and House of Aphrodite. I have never visited these stores coming out empty handed.
What items do you feel are worth splurging on? n Good foundation: How long have you been a makeup artist? It’s an investment! I’d like to say my whole life, having literally grown up n Makeup brushes: in the salon but I have been actively helping my You can’t imagine mom and been a part of the business since 2009. the difference it makes. n Contour kit: Game How do you choose what looks work for each individual client? changer. winged eyeliner and down tones eyes has been the trend however this year it’s all about highlighted exaggerated eyes with falsies so I’m happy about the change and loving the trend. As for hair I love Balayage however this year it’s more about leaving your hair be. And natural is in with a subtle break of color and for a change I love it! Which trends to you want to see disappear? I think Ombre needs to die - NOW! If you could choose anyone to give a makeover, who would it be and why? Imran Khan! Recently he’s been looking like he needs a haircut.
How would you describe your signature look and what is it about your style that sets you apart from other makeup artists? I’m so proud about my industry peers and truly believe we have immense talent. My signature look is all about customizing my service to my client’s needs and incorporating my skills to truly give each client a wonderful experience. What’s the best style advice you’ve received? Customize trends to your needs and body rather than just applying them. Let’s say you could travel back in time to one fashion era, where would you end up? What did you like about that period? I would go to the 40s- belted waisted, structured shoulder and Ava Gardner wardrobe. Describe a time early in your career where you felt you could say, ‘I made it’…? I was flying from London to Lahore and an air hostess came up to me and said she reads my blog, finds it super helpful and that she’s just tested my zit zapper technique and it worked!!! What is the most important beauty advice that you can give to women? You as an individual, your features, your skin tone, your body - everything is unique. And in that uniqueness is where the real beauty lies. What goals do you wish to achieve in the future? To be honest, I set daily goals or weekly goals - they are much more practical aims and this way it’s easier and more organized for you to achieve a yearly goal. My goal is to focus on education in my field. The beauty industry is one of the fastest growing ones and someone has to take up the responsibility of giving internationally accredited and a high standard of education to our beauticians and hairdressers. your skin look cakey… It literally kills your look! How do we avoid our concealer being exposed when we take a camera flash photo? Blending is the key, along with using the right shade of foundation and concealer. What lip, cheek and eye colors should we opt for during the warmer months? Bright corals, peaches and pastels. Darker towards the evening. Redah, what are the major beauty trends and themes for Summer 2016? n Natural hair (Simple blow-dries, wet look, basics). n A nude face (Not too much shimmer, matte and natural). n Luminous skin. n Soft feline eyes. n Light lips. What is the professional makeup artist’s way to create a sexy summer glow? Strobing!! Although professionally I have a long foundation, conceal, contour and highlight regime but strobing is a trend everyone professional or not can follow easily. Dark lip colors in the summer? inging the changes with your interior can sustain the versatility of the place you call home. When it comes to furnishing your house, it is preferable to keep adding or omitting pieces to spruce up its feel. Since it could get costly to recreate an entire space, adding accent pieces and accessories to decorate a room can give it a new-fangled look. Aurum hopes to provide that. Speaks to Aurum's creative director Minhal Sadiq Saigol to get a peek into her vision and what her brand has to offer. "As clichĂŠd as it may sound, the idea came to me when I was decorating my own space and couldn't find anything," says Saigol. "I did not want to buy accessories from abroad, so I began experimenting with things here," she adds. Saigol's range includes coasters, bottle stoppers, cushions, candle stands, acrylic trays, sculptures, ashtrays, tissues boxes, lamp finials, which are all priced under Rs 10, 000. Her second range of accessories includes marble platters, cocktail tables, lamps, framed mirrors, consoles and side-tables. What draws one to Aurum is probably the geometric nature of design Saigol plays with.

him girls are merely a means of pass time and pleasure. He considers Gul-e-Rana perfect to marry as she wouldn't have a say in his personal life and tries every trick in his book to woo her but she pays no heed. Frustrated by her response, Adeel knits a sinister plan and traps Gul-e-Rana, leaving her with a choice to choose between him and her honor.
What follows is a story of revenge and remorse. When the drama serial Gule-Rana was first aired much was already being talked about the drama serial. Many of the fans who have been watching are absolutely mesmerized by the amazing performance and plot of the drama. Gul-e-Rana's relation with her father which has been shown in the initial episodes absolutely is amazing. The drama is a smooth transition serial that witnesses Behroze Khan (Gul-eRana's father) being a very caring and loving family man. However, an unfortunate accident results in his death. Gul-eRana's sister and mother forced her to move into a new place living under the supervision of their father's step brother. The drama shows the fact that her uncle is very kind. Adeel (Feroze Khan) is the only son of Gul-e-Rana's uncle. He has a lot of money that he owns and one thing he isn't surely ashamed of. Adeel likes the fact that women fight over him whereas he does not give them attention. He goes to the extent of telling his phupphos where they stand in his life. Commenting on the drama so far, it seems that the veterans are bagging strong performances as compared to the youngsters. Another thing in the drama according to the critics was the fact that Sajjal Ali does show strong characters but her look remains to be the same all the years she has been here. Although the drama has strong lighting and support but the plot of the drama isn't so amazing or special. The monotonous thing is that the lead actor doesn't catch your attention and the female actress is like all the other women you might have seen. The drama seems to be going in the predictable direction and then would end in the same way. Although it not possible the Gul-e-Rana will fulfill her father's dreams and repetitive obsession of Adeel's phupphos insisting him to marry their daughters is somewhat irritating. The drama is going on smooth roads with noting extra-ordinary going on or expected.
