monday: classed-up grunge
There’s something so chic about pulling off a casual, borderline-grungy look with a refined pair of heels. I obsess over street styles – sometimes more than actual fashion shows – and the genre’s effortlessly put-together look is what I try to attain on a daily basis. I like to think about everything in terms of balance. I bought this sweater at a thrift shop for a few bucks. It’s perfect for dressing up and down. Paired with an old pair of ripped jeans alone, it would look frumpy, but bring in the fancy via pea coat and sleek heels and voilà. Balance is achieved.
tuesday: refined classics
I call this look my “refined classics.” I love statement pieces. No wardrobe is complete without them. However, I always find myself reaching for pieces that have an air of timelessness. I found this shirt/tunic/dress (I’m still unsure what it is) at Anthropologie. As one of my favorite stores, I love how Anthropologie has a way of integrating the eclectic and classic seamlessly. The structure of this piece especially caught my eye. With a neutral color and pattern, its boxy architecture juxtaposed by a hemline of ruffles becomes the focus. My purse I found at a thrift shop, but I need to throw some credit out to my mom for this one. Her love for sweet and dainty pieces has influenced my own style. She convinced me to buy this purse and I’m so glad I did. It adds a vintage charm to any modern look.
wednesday: hipster prep
On those days where I want to throw out all my clothes and start over, I always opt for a mix of preppy and hipster. I’ve recently fallen in love with men’s fashion and its influence on women’s styles. Therefore, as the hipster trend leaked into those wardrobes, it has subtly found a home in mine. As a result, plaid has been one of my favorite patterns this winter. This Tommy Hilfiger button-up is one of my go-to pieces. The dark greens and blues go so well with my closet’s earthy hues. I like to tone down the “preppy-ness” with a sandy, oversized boucle sweater and masculine boots. The vintage Coach continues the mix with a rich tone and simplistic structure.
thursday: the cool sweater
As the week comes to an end, I’m the exhausted subject of a busy schedule and lack of sleep. I love looking put together, but I’m just as desperate to be comfortable as the next student is. That’s why I’m obsessed with the sweater trend style connoisseurs have now made “cool.” Which is exactly what I think this sweater is. The edgy gold zipper detailing and cocoon shape make it cool on its own, but a pair of leather leggings takes the piece to a new level. Donning leather in the daylight is such a confidence booster. With a punch of edge from my favorite geometric necklace, I’m ready to take on the world.
friday: youthful sophistication
Over the past few years, I’ve found my sense of style has grown up along with me. As a sophomore in college, I’m in a transition from casual to sophisticated. I feel how you present yourself at this age of opportunity and learning is extremely important, so I try to look for ways fashion can display my maturity and drive as well as my youth. This outfit does just that. The cropped blouse is a spin on sophistication with messy polka dots and an exposed zipper. Harem pants are a great way to make a mature look more fun. I’ve been a fan of the style for a while, but couldn’t find the right pair for me. I just recently found these and I love them so much that I would wear them to bed if I could. The effortlessly-falling, shiny black fabric is perfect for dressing up and down. Not to mention they were ten dollars.
