monday: mixed patterns
Is it spring yet? As I anxiously wait for warm and sunny weather to arrive, I can’t help but be in the mood for some color. This is one of my favorite dresses. It is so cheerful and wearing it always seems to make me happy. I thought I would step outside of the box a bit and pair it with this flannel from H&M for a mixed media effect. Floral and plaid may not seem like the perfect combination at first, but I think the greys in the dress and plaid really tie the look together. It’s so easy to fall into a style rut during the winter months, but I like to push my style limits and just have a little fun.
tuesday: feminine structure
Tuesdays are my busiest days with a jam-packed class schedule and my weekly Moda meeting at night. This requires me to wear something comfortable, stylish and put-together. This button-down from J. Crew does just that. It’s lightweight and unconstricting which allows it to be comfortable yet much more put together than a t-shirt. This blazer and necklace together add an extra oomph. I love the juxtaposition of the oranges and yellows with the deep red of the accessory. Recently, I’ve been purchasing more statement necklaces because they’re an inexpensive way to add a unique touch to any outfit. Also nothing says glamour like a crimson lip – yet another way to make a statement.
wednesday: a unique accessory
It’s the middle of the week and I stayed up super late studying for my calculus midterm. Comfort was the thing on my mind when I got dressed this morning. This pair of pants is the cooler sister to sweatpants. They’re made of a lighter material and have such an effortlessly cool, relaxed feel to them. The best part – I got them for five dollars at Urban Outfitters. They’re the perfect study buddy to have when I visit my favorite library on campus, the Historical Society Library. Concerning my top, I typically shy away from orange, but this burnt version of the hue really caught my eye at Pitaya. Adding the finishing touch, I chose to incorporate this unique silk scarf that I found in my mom’s closet. Personally, I love using scarves as hair accessories – especially on days when I’m rocking second or possibly third day hair.
thursday: nautical inspired
I love stripes and anything nautical. This dress combines both of these things and it’s really comfortable. Sweater dresses are fantastic because they take the guesswork out of getting dressed in the morning. Not going to lie, I’m kind of a lazy girl. I love being able to just slip on this dress and be done. I can look puttogether without much effort. The subtle detailing of the gold buttons on the shoulder also adds a cool, effortless touch especially when contrasted with my silver statement necklace. I usually tend to lean toward more traditional, basic pieces so I love accentuating the finer points of an ensemble and using accessories to make my outfits pop. Last but not least, I can’t forget to mention my Hunter rain boots – a recent, yet necessary splurge. Cute and durable, they’re great for the icy and slushy sidewalks. After slipping and falling on the sidewalk earlier this week, I knew it was time to bring these beauties out again.
friday: denim on denim
On Fridays I only have two classes in the morning so I don’t usually get too dressed up because I spend most of the day in sweats catching up on sleep and Netflix. As per usual, comfort played a huge part in my outfit decision. Having to walk everywhere, ease and functionality play a major part in what I wear. Jeans are a must! The ones that I’m wearing are my favorite. Not only are they the perfect wash, but they’re also the perfect cut and they’re so stretchy! Essentially, they’re just as comfortable as a pair of leggings or yoga pants. To explain the rest of my look, it would be beneficial to know that I’ve been on a 80s movie kick lately and that I’m currently obsessed with The Breakfast Club. All the 80s fashion has inspired me to rock the denim on denim look. This denim jacket in particular was a total steal. I actually bought it at a thrift store in my hometown on half-off day for only two dollars. In my opinion, thrifting is the best because you can always find such unique finds and you never have to spend a pretty penny.
