A development of 36 luxury apartments and penthouses in Poundbury by ZeroC

THE TALK OF

THE TOWN Monaveen House completes an important area of Poundbury, just to the east of Queen Mother Square – a unique space in the town. This is the heart of Poundbury, with a range of shops and restaurants and a popular meeting point, with attractive green spaces just a short walk away. The architectural structure of Monaveen House draws upon the wonderful 19th century heritage of Dorchester and Weymouth’s industrial buildings – the renowned Eldridge Pope brewery and other warehouses in Dorchester, and the richly detailed Devenish Brewery in the heart of Weymouth harbour. These substantial buildings will make for modern apartment living in a classic environment, with generous windows to maximise daylight and views, and will be complemented by the highest specification and luxurious finishes.

THE ROYAL CONNECTION TO MONAVEEN The name Monaveen House comes

from the racehorse that the Queen Mother owned in the 1950s.

Monaveen was purchased by Lord Mildmay for the Queen Mother

in 1949. It was her first steeplechaser and the only horse she shared with her daughter Princess Elizabeth. Monaveen’s success kindled a

passion for jump racing that lasted until her death. The horse finished second in the Grand Sefton Chase at Aintree and then took the

prestigious Queen Elizabeth Chase

at Hurst Park (now the King George VI Chase at Kempton).

THE AMBITION AND

PASSION OF POUNDBURY Inspired by His Royal Highness, the Prince of Wales, and master-planned by the celebrated architect and urban planner Leon Krier, the new community of Poundbury sits proudly on a hilltop on the western edge of the county town of Dorchester. When work began in 1993, the basic idea was simple; Poundbury would be a high-density urban quarter of Dorchester which gives priority to people, rather than cars. This approach aims to challenge some of the planning assumptions of the latter part of the 20th century and the past decade. As Poundbury has developed, the ambition and passion during this process has demonstrated that there is a genuine alternative to the way in which we build new communities in the UK. Monaveen House offers the opportunity to live at the heart of this exciting development, where carefully crafted buildings create a vibrant environment to live, work and enjoy.

MONAVEEN AT THE

HEART OF POUNDBURY Monaveen House is positioned just by Queen Mother square at the central hub and very heart of Poundbury. On the corner stands the Duchess of Cornwall Inn, a large public house and restaurant with boutique hotel accommodation above while opposite this is Kingspoint House incorporating Waitrose supermarket – the key shopping facility in the town – plus offices and apartments. The square is overlooked by a statue of the Queen Mother which was unveiled by the Queen in October 2016. The 3m bronze statue by sculptor Philip Jackson is a second casting of a sculpture which stands in The Mall in London, depicting the Queen Mother at the age of 51. Queen Mother Square is the focus of many community events in the town including regular Farmer’s Markets and also the annual Dorset Food and Arts Festival, which showcases the best of Dorset’s food, art and music.

DEVELOPING FOR THE FUTURE ZeroC is well-known for building high quality homes and mixed use developments. We are equally comfortable building traditional homes as we are testing the bounds of cutting edge contemporary design. Our approach is design-led. We care about the quality of architecture, generous welldesigned interior spaces, the visual interest and impact of our developments, and the quality of their infrastructure and public spaces. We work across the UK and are expert in creating new communities for significant public and private sector landowners, including the Homes and Communities Agency, the Duchy of Cornwall, and some of Britain’s largest and most innovative individual landowners. We are noted for listening, understanding, and tuning in to what’s needed – and then creating it attractively and sustainably. Our developments share a strong sense of place and quality beyond the ordinary, which has helped us win many major building awards. We do our best to do it right.
