TONY and Sue Lange outside their new Sprint Auto store.
Tony, who has been in the parts industry for 20 years, said he was excited about the opportunities the shop would bring to customer in the Adelaide Plains and Two Wells area. “It’s going to really increase the range of auto products and bring the prices down to rock bottom” he said. “The store will grow as the community grows and as the customer base and needs grow, so will the range of products. It will be more convenient for locals and may save them time and travel to Gawler or Elizabeth. “We will be welcoming trade accounts from the area, with the view to supplying Port Wakefield and Balaklava in the future.” Renovations have begun at 120 Old Port Wakefield Road and the store has taken on the traditional red and white Sprint Auto Parts colours – which coincidentally also are Two Wells’ colours! For more information, contact Tony or Sue on 85203 338.
Plains Producer, Wednesday November 3, 2010
Two wells residents are set to benefit from a wider range of motoring products, spare parts and accessories as Tony and Sue Lange gear up for their new venture into the Sprint Auto Parts business. Currently trading as Lange Auto, Tony and Sue have expanded their business and taken advantage of their existing shop front with expansion in a retail site. While Lange Auto will remain on site offering the usual mechanical repairs, service and tuneups, the new Sprint Auto Parts satellite store will be run as a whole new and separate business. All products from the entire Sprint Auto Parts range will be available at their very competitive prices. If a particular part is not in stock, it can be ordered and will be available a few hours later. The store will also continue to stock the boating and marine range to cater for the fishing and boating enthusiasts in the area.

AW Vater enters Hall of Fame South Australian honour for respected family business
A
W Vater & Co recently was inducted into the South Australian chapter of Family Business Australia’s Hall of Fame. The company has a long and strong history with the agricultural industry since being established in 1957. Second generation business, AW Vater & Co is one of the most successful, respected and diversified agriculturalbased operations in the state. AW Vater & Co has established agronomic trial sites at Kadina and Saddleworth. Allen and Doris set out in 1957 with a humble dream that one day they would be able to provide a future for their children within their own business. The company entered the second generation when Allen and Doris’s first son, Roger came to work in the business in 1974. Kim followed in 1975, and their three other children, Jill, Rick and Tania, joined the team in the 1980s. Today, five siblings run the various arms of the business. AW Vater & Co will be conducting field days for growers on Tuesday, August 24 (Kadina) and Thursday, September 9 (Saddleworth). The trials showcase the latest cereal, legume and pulse varieties relevant to each region (including different seeding rates), as well as a look at various pasture options. Fertiliser applications are also a major focus, looking at improving effiencies while minimising inputs, particularly looking at new products such as Carbon Boost and Kafe-F. Other trials are the use of new pre-emergent herbicides for ryegrass control, blackspot management in field peas, seed treatment and demonstrations of new post-emergent herbicides and fungicides. “A major benefit for these two fields days is the access growers get to suppliers and members of the industry, so we encourage everyone to come along and join in the flood of knowledge that is sure to take place. “There are limited positions available with our VIP clients taking priority place. KAFÉ-F & ZICRON-F KAFÉ-F & ZICRON-F, when added to existing foliar fertilizer applications, allow plants to more rapidly and efficiently absorb and translocate vital nutrients. Our products work in the plant to improve nutrient utilization and provide more consistent performance. When KAFÉ-F comes into contact with plants, it begins to immediately affect basic biological processes that enable plants to achieve their optimum genetic potential. By improving a plant’s ability to utilise moisture and nutrients more efficiency, our products can benefit a crop’s overall health and natural resistance to environmental stresses. As a result, production costs per unit are reduced.
According to university & independent research KAFÉ-F & ZICRON-F work in the plant to:

by the spacing length. For wide hedges, a double row– planted at staggered intervals – might be the way to go. It’s good insurance to buy a couple of extra plants in case a ready replacement is required. Only choose plant stock from the one species, uniform in size and appearance and with full, healthy leaf cover down to the
base. After the standard planting, watering and mulching procedures are done, pruning is the critical special operation for a good hedge– and this starts immediately. •Source: www.plantthis. com.au

PLANTING A HEDGE HEDGES are a versatile device for creating privacy, screening out eyesores, marking a boundary or dividing spaces within your yard. These living walls are built by placing plants in close competition for resources. Give them a strong foundation by thoroughly preparing their planting area first. Decide if the garden design needs a formal, clipped hedge; or a looser look where flowers or fruit are allowed to develop. Also consider the desired height of the hedge and whether it should be evergreen for year-round privacy or deciduous for extra winter sun. The plants will be spaced at a distance about 1/4 to 1/3 of their natural mature height, and one hole dug 1/2 a spacing length in from either end of the planting bed. To determine how many plants are needed in between, divide the remaining distance

WITH the colder weather setting in, the Metropolitan Fire Service (MFS) is warning of an increased risk of household fires involving equipment typically used during the colder weather such as ovens, heaters, fireplaces, clothes dryers and electric blankets. A slow combustion stove fire that almost destroyed an Adelaide home recently is a warning to all householders t the winter house fire danger season has arrived. MFS Commander of Community Safety and Resilience, Allan Foster said: “Remember to check equipment that hasn’t been used since last winter. Chimneys and flues should be cleaned regularly and heaters serviced. Electric blankets should be carefully checked before being switched on for the first time”. Last year the MFS attended 27 unit and house fires involving equipment commonly used during the winter months. The MFS says by following some simple tips, people can be home fire safe in the colder months: ✔ Keep heaters well clear from any items that might burn. Clearance from clothes, bedding, furniture, curtains and other combustibles should be two metres.

Jory has plans to introduce new items to the menu including a range of burgers and meal deals, however also wants to uphold the same quality the shop has always had by serving Rosie’s chicken and other existing products. “It’s a new era for us, it’s our future and it’s too good to be true,” Jory said. Jory also plans to bring a unique idea to Port Wakefield and that is the burger challenge. “We are introducing the burger challenge, which will feature a six in one burger the size of a plate,” Jory said. Building a Royal reputation AFTER years of continuous upgrades and investment, the Royal Hotel in Balaklava is steadily evolving into a fine establishment. The hotel has been owned and managed by the Friedrichs family, Peter, his wife Sue, and son, Derek, since taking over on November 19, 2007, having run the Milang hotel for about two years before. Peter said family members have their own responsibilities; his is predominately running the front bar. It has taken years to get the hotel to where it is today, with painting, renovations and regular improvements, including the building of the beer garden and outdoor dining areas, ongoing since taking over about four years ago. “It was a bit rundown and needed some work. This was the attraction to buy the hotel – and we could get it freehold, which was a real bonus,” Peter said. “We had a plan before we got here of what needed to be done.” Further improvements are still on the

CUSTOMER service and satisfaction have always been a priority for Cunningham’s Balaklava Pty Ltd – ever since Ken took over the business in the early 1980’s. Where once manufacturing was the mainstay of the business, son Shane has expanded the business into the retail sector, with a huge range of agricultural and general workshop supplies and spares now either in stock or readily available to order. Since joining the TradeSmart Group last year, the business now has greater buying power and is able to offer competitive prices and monthly specials. Keep an eye out for our catalogues and come in to talk to Shane about any of your requirements. In the workshop, apart from building such agricultural equipment as prickle chains and land rollers, Cunningham’s will tackle one-off jobs to customer requirements and carry out repairs where necessary.
