Les Portes du Soleil. Les Portes du Soleil is the largest linked ski area in the world, and consists of 14 resorts from Lake Geneva in Switzerland through to Mont Blanc in France. The top resorts in the Portes Soleil include Avoriaz; Chatel; Les Gets; and Morzine in France, and Les Crosets; Morgins; Champery-Planachaux; and Torgon in Switzerland. The Portes du Soleil is the largest linked international ski area in the world and offers: 2 countries, 14 holiday resorts, 650 km of ski runs, 204 ski lifts, 7 snowparks, 3 halfpipe, 4 boarder cross, 4 snow cross, hundreds of kilometres for freeride and 1 ski pass. The runs offered throughout the ski area provide something for skiers of all levels of ability and experience. There are many snow parks,
with half-pipes and hand rails, located in many of the resorts of the area. The mountain resorts of Champéry, Morgins, Val-d’Illiez-Les CrosetsChampoussin and Torgon belong to the international Portes du Soleil region. Val-d’Illiez This charming and peaceful village, situated at 950m, is the ideal spot for a relaxing visit. Nestled at the foot of the majestic Dents du Midi Mountains and in the heart of the Val d’Illiez valley, this village is part of a commune that also includes the resort towns of Les Crosets and Champoussin. Val d’Illiez is widely reputed for its thermal baths, which offer therapy for body and spirit in a spectacular natural setting. Additionally, many other activities await you here all year round: walking trails through the mountains, all-terrain mountain biking, and the Via Ferrata not for the faint hearted. Annual highlights include, Every summer once the snow melts alpine meadows stretch as far as the eye can see in the 12 village resorts of the Portes du Soleil. Mountain bikers and walkers have lifts to take them up the FrenchSwiss mountains where they can either head back down, explore the peaks or enjoy a relaxing views... In Val d’illiez the yearly fête au village is an unforgettable moment of merrymaking local-style. In winter, the season’s festivities open with the annual Christmas market, which then cedes its place to the traditional Christmas crèche. Another high point of the year is without a doubt February’s Carnaval, including the children’s parade and Mardi Gras celebration. GENERAL LOCATION Integrated in the Portes du Soleil, Europe’s largest skiing domain, and facing the towering Dents du Midi, the spa village of Val d’Illiez is strategically located at the entrance to the Valais Alps. Opening onto the Portes du Soleil, the valley is easily accessible, at a moderate driving distance from Berne, Sion and Geneva – 90 minutes to Geneva’s international airport, 50 minutes to Sion airport -. In this untouched region of mountain pastures, Alpine authenticity has been well preserved. The site offers a variety of leisure activities owing to its numerous modern infrastructures. In winter, skiers, hikes and mountain-climbers have access to an immense domain where summer sports such as tennis, mountain biking and hang-gliding are also on offer. However, the most sought-after, allseason activity in Val d’Illiez is swimming.
THERMAL BATHS After skiing in winter or after hiking in summer, the thermal baths of Val d’Illiez offer incomparable relaxation. They are fed by three main springs offering sulphate and magnesium rich, calciferous, fluorinated and sulphurous thermal water. The basins’ average water temperature is 34°C, and owing to a constant flow rate, basin contents are constantly renewed. This thermal and mineral water is particularly well suited for the treatment of articular affections, arthritis, as well as for the curing of cer-
tain skin diseases and peripheral circulatory disorders. The complex currently includes a 34°C thermal pool, a 29°C thermal stream, a thermal cave offering a mist effect, a 1’500 sqm lake, a park area and a healthcare center (massages, anti-stress treatments, acupuncture, water gymnastics, etc.), a gourmet restaurant offering local specialties, and a vast, sunny terrace. All in all, the baths are a true oasis of well-being in a splendid natural environment.
APARTMENTS The apartment buildings meet the highest standards of quality and architecture and aim to respect the local construction style.
