1.
The risks of doing social media are greatly outweighed by the risks of not doing it. However: Information security is a very real and valid concern.Â
2.
Social media is not driven by the position, the title, or the department. It’s driven by the person.
3.
Transparency, participatory, collaborative‌ These terms don’t just refer to the end state. They refer to the process used to get there, as well. Diverse perspectives, opinions and beliefs should be embraced and discussed openly.
4. Your Government agency/organization/ group/branch/division is not unique. Your challenges, while unique to you, are not unique to the government.
5. Citizens are Conversations. In the age of social media, people expect transparent and collaborative government. Social technologies like YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter used to be termed “new media” but that’s not accurate any longer. Now, it's all “now media.”
6. Transparency is Leadership. Integrity inspires collaboration & collective action. Social media gives you a platform to speak with an authentic, personal voice.
