About the Zine This zine was developed and created by Planned Parenthood Toronto’s (PPT) Supporting Newcomer Access Project (SNAP) volunteers. The goal is to inform, entertain and educate newcomer youth as well as empower them to make informed decisions about sexuality, relationships and consent. Using various mediums, the hope is that the themes of the zine will spark conversation and create opportunities for dialogue, instead of awkward onilne search histories. This zine was made by the 2017-2018 SNAP volunteers who dedicated their time, energy, passion and creativity to the project. The zine wouldn’t be possible without these amazing people: April V. Emily C. Karan B. LeroyM.

Chenthoori M. Jessiny L. Kelani B. SukhT.

Big thanks to our special contributors whose work you’ll also find in the zine: Ani B. K.C.

Elysya S. Quinn R.

Maymuna M. Will H.

What does Consent look 1ike

I

VL P F ‘

the ORV ‘consent’ before. In You might have everyday use to consent means to agree to do something or to give permission, but the term has become particularly popular in the context of sex. In the context of sexual activity, a person is consenting when they freely and actively agree to do something sexual with someone else. Conseni means making sure that your is fine with each activity, every step along the way. In practice it may mean asking questions like: ‘can I kiss your...?’, Is there anything you don’t want to do?’. ‘can [touch your ‘are you comfortable?’ etc. At the beginning it may feel a little awkward to communicate this way, but the best way td make sure that you have consent from a partner is to have an ongoing conversation and ask questions about their sexual nceds, desires, likes and dislikes. Consent is not only necessary, but it is mandatory!

You can always change your mind, even in the middle of sexual activity. Just because you already consented does not mean you must go though with the activity. Be honest with yourself as well as honest with your partner.
