FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
AUSTRALIA
What type of pipe are Series One fittings used on? Series One fittings are designed for use on Polyethylene (PE) pipe made to AS/NZS 4130 (which includes PE100 and PE80) and PEX pipe. Series One’s PECopper adaptor is dedicated to PE-copper connections.
PLASSON also recommend using a thumb-nail sized drop of silicone based lubrication on the pipe end to ease insertion. Chamfering and lubing is especially important on pipe 40mm OD and above which needs more force to install.
Series One fittings can join PVC, polybutylene, polypropylene and lead pipe when specially designed PLASSON brass grip rings are used with the fittings.
Do I need to use inserts in the end of pipes when Series One fittings are used?
Which standards do Series One fittings meet?
No. While pipe inserts are intended to prevent a reduction in the diameter of the pipe end, testing has shown they have no effect on the strength or reliability of Series One fittings.
Series One conforms to AS/NZS 4129 “Fittings for polyethylene (PE) pipes for pressure applications” and is also WaterMarked.
Which PE pipe diameters should Series One fittings be used on? PE - 20mm OD to 63mm OD.
Can I re-use Series One fittings? Yes. A PLASSON Series One wrench is used to unlock the grey nut. Each component can then be removed from the pipe end. If the fitting is to be reused, the two white internal grip rings must be replaced with new ones.
What is the pressure rating of Series One fittings? 16 bar.
Do I need to use tools to install Series One fittings? No tools are needed for installation, although PLASSON strongly recommend using a chamfer tool to debur or remove the sharp edge on the end of the pipe.
The nut can be done up by hand or with the wrench so that the nut is tightened firmly against the fitting body. Two wrenches are supplied for use on different diameter Series One fittings – one wrench is used on 20-32mm fittings and another on 40-63mm fittings

What temperature range can Series One fittings be used in?
Do I need thread tape on male and female Series One fittings?
Series One fittings are designed for cold water plumbing applications – ie 20 deg C. Series One fittings can be used up to 40 deg C, however the pressure capacity of the fitting is de-rated – see table below.
Yes. PTFE tape should always be used with plastic to plastic or plastic to metal threads.
Are the grip rings and O-rings/seals interchangeable between PLASSON Series One and PLASSON Line 7 fittings? No. The grip rings and O-rings/seals in Series One are a different design to Line 7.
What size Copper pipes does the PE-Copper fitting connect? 25 & 32mm PE and ½”, 3/4” and 1” copper pipe
Can Series One be used on air lines in industrial applications? Series 1 fittings will withstand sub-zero temperatures.
What type of threads are used in Series One male and female adaptors? The male threads are tapered (known as Rc) and the female threads are parallel (known as Rp). Threads conform to ISO 7/1
PLASSON Line 7 has been a reliable performer in industrial applications for decades and is recommended over Series One because PLASSON Line 7 can be supplied with specific seals to counter the chemicals in compressed air lines – Series One does not have these seals. Also, the nut on Line 7 fittings enables strong engagement of the grip ring into the pipe surface. Although low risk, pressure fluctuations and vibration may undermine the grip ring engagement in Series One fittings used on air lines.
