Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan attended the award ceremony of the 6th Fashion Apparel Conference Istanbul. Speaking at the conference, Erdogan said Turkey was on par with other countries on the international arena in the textile sector. “I don’t accept the notion that we have fallen behind other countries in the textile and apparel industry. On the contrary, we are in a position to compete head to head with them,” Erdogan said, addressing the conference organized by Istanbul Clothing Manufacturers Association. ”I believe this conference will further accelerate the efforts to acquire a share for Turkey in this market. And we will do our part.” Erdogan touched on his visit to the United States scheduled on May 16, saying a part of his agenda on domestic affairs will concern economic relations between his country and the US. “As of now, the trade volume between the US and Turkey is around 20 billion dollars, which is a comical figure,” he said. ”In US-Turkey relations, 20 billion dollars in trade is not something we can cheer for nor accept.” To view the news report please visit Ministry of Economy website.
