Always read the “safe manual handling” manual before any heavy objects are lifted available from Nomow 11a. Data sheets are provided for each component part of your Nomow® lawn, please read these and follow the procedures detailed, wearing all the safety equipment advised, for each element of the works available from Nomow 1a.
Before the Nomow® is placed in the required position make sure the ground is level, firm, free draining and free from weeds (see Appendix A) If the proposed area is subject to flooding a sub surface drainage system may be required; advice can be obtained from the Nomow® engineering department. If the area is contaminated with weeds, the area must be treated with a total translocated herbicide approximately two weeks before they are removed.

7 Lay the geotextile making sure that all the edges are at approximately 50mm inside the proposed carpet edge (Picture 2). Ensure that all separate pieces are overlapped by 300mm

9 Trim the edges of the lawn to the desired shape using a ‘Stanley’ knife or similar. To make cutting along the edge easier fold the carpet over and push down firmly following the edge, cut the carpet into 10cm strips back along the fold (as below), then cut along at the base of each strip.
Mix the adhesive, parts A & B, ensuring that both components are mixed properly.
Spread the mixed adhesive 3mm thick to within 25mm from the edge of the backing tape and place in position.

Get a motorized lawn rake or rotary brush and fibrillate the fibres of the lawn splitting the larger fibres into several smaller ones.
The quality of this process is paramount in producing the grass like appearance.

Fold over the carpet onto the adhesive making sure the fibres don’t get caught in the adhesive. When folding over the carpet a 3mm gap between the carpet rolls is ideal.
If the Nomow® is going to be used for domestic sport or exposed areas such as roof top gardens, fixings may be required to anchor the edges of the carpet. (Adhesive or Galvanised Spikes)
concrete
There are many bases that Nomow can be laid on. Each base type has different methods of fixing/laying.
Remove any loose debris and make sure that the surface is dry. No geotextile will be required. Place the carpet in the correct position, joint if necessary and trim all edges. Pull back the carpeting exposing the concrete base and apply adhesive in long strips 25mm wide at 250mm centres in the direction of the slope of the concrete (This will enable any water filtering through the carpet to run between the beads of adhesive and off the concrete base – bearing in mind that if the concrete holds water now, it will still hold water – there must be a fall/ slope for effective drainage). Carefully roll out the carpet onto the concrete and apply pressure to adhere the carpet to the adhesive beneath. Do not walk on or apply the rubber fill until the adhesive has cured.
Please see below for the different methods.
11
Leave to dry for 24 hours if possible. More accurate drying times are available on the data sheet.

Spread over the surface of the Nomow® rubber granules ensuring that approximately 20mm depth is inserted.

Any turf / grass must be removed along with the perennial weeds, leaving a flat firm base. If the soil is a heavy clay soil and it is hard to produce a level base, the supply and compaction of 25mm sharp sand (A) can be used. The sand should be screeded out (B) and compacted using a vibrating plate (C), the sanded surface can be overlaid with the Geotextile (D) and Nomow®
As per the concrete base.
crushed stone bases
The stone surface should be well compacted and free draining if possible. If the crushed stone is difficult to grade to a satisfactory standard, spread and level 25mm of sharp sand as detailed above. Geotextile and Nomow® can now be laid in the normal way.
steep slopes
It is very important to anchor the Nomow® on a steep slope to stop the Nomow® creeping down the slope over a period of time. Using the Galvanised anchors provided, fix along the upper edge at 300mm centres, 50mm in from the edge of the carpet making sure the angle of fixing does not lean towards the slope. If the slope is greater than 45 degrees the Nomow® will need to be fixed to a solid beam at the top of the slope using screws with 25mm washers at 250mm centres.
