The Thin Blue Line is a phrase and symbol used by law enforcement. The phrase refers figuratively to the position of law enforcement in society as a bulwark between order and anarchy. The symbol depicts a thin blue line, representing law enforcement, against a black background, and is commonly used to express solidarity with police, to commemorate policemen who have died in the line of duty, and to symbolize the relationship of law enforcement with the community as the protectors of the community from criminals and victimization. This line in the local Police’s Tubatse Cluster just got thicker with the appointment of a number of Colonels to fill up the middle management ranks at several Police stations in the area and also to strengthen support and detective services. The new members were inducted on Monday and at the same time introduced to the local media. The Blue Pipe is not fulfilling in community Police Station for Driekop needs An important milestone in the fight against crime was reached this week when the Police opened a fully fledged Police Station at Driekop on Monday. Driekop is situated between Burgersfort and Dilokong and previously resorted under the Mecklenburg Police station at Moroke. The Tubatse Cluster Commander, Major General Maepa told Platinum Gazette that the
Police station at Driekop will fulfill in an important need of the community who requested a fully fledged station for years. He added that the next project will be to prioritise a Police station in the Steelpoort area, which will also be there to serve the mines in the area as the Sekhukhune Police Staion at Schoonoord that is now serving that area, is situated too far away.

The so-called Blue Pipe brings water to Ga-Matodi, the village past Praktiseer on the way to Taung, where the Tubatse and Olifants Rivers meet. Despite the two rivers in the vicinity, the water is not enough. Say the residents: “They pump water into the reservoirs early in the morning via the blue pipe, but by 11:00 in the mornings, water from the blue pipe is finished. Then we must wait for water until the next day. There is no way to get enough water for washing, that is why we wash our clothes in this little stream where the animals drink.”
Beware of Modikwa job scam Modikwa Platinum Mine says it is again a victim of a job scam, and has warned jobseekers not to fall into the scamming trap. Modikwa’s management says it has received numerous complaints that there are individuals who deceptively pose as recruiters on behalf of Modikwa Platinum Mine. False advertisements are being placed in various media containing fabricated contact details (e-mail address and mobile number). When individuals respond to these fraudulent advertisements, they are normally instructed to transfer significant sums of money in order to process their documents. The mine says people should note that: 1. Such communications are fraudulent and do not originate from Modikwa Platinum Mine. The company will never request any monetary favours or other form of payment from job applicants at any point in the recruitment process. 2. The mine also does not engage a third party to assist in recruitment efforts. All individuals who are recruited by Modikwa Platinum Mine always undergo a formal recruitment process, which includes an in-person interview.

Be careful when using inner-city taxis Trying to deposit money into his Unisa account became a nightmare for a 26-year old man working in Burgersfort. On Friday, 3 November he went to the Standard Bank at Twin City Centre, but the queue was very long. Thinking it would be faster at Tubatse Crossing Mall he quickly got into an inner-city taxi (the small Avanzas) and asked to go to the Mall. The vehicle had 3 other people in it. A woman and two men (of which one was the driver). They told him that they are just going to drop off the woman at Thaba Moshate Casino and then they’ll drop him off at Tubatse
Crossing Mall. “But when they just drove on towards Steelpoort, I knew something was wrong,” the man told Platinum Gazette this week. It was the start of an ordeal that would last hours and saw him being assualted, raped, robbed and dropped off in the middle of nowhere at night. “They drove very far and threatened me. They took the money I had with me which I was going to deposit and also took my bank card. They tried to suffocate me to get me to give them my pin code. I gave it to them because I thought I was going to die”. He was dropped off near Lebo-

One of the best ways to ensure that you are making use of a taxi that is registered with the local Taxi Association is to look out for big yellow and red magnets with numbers on them. Registered taxis receive such magnet plates and is supposed to display them on the vehicle. Platinum Gazette was also unable to get satisfying answers, but in response to the incident the Burgersfort SAPS and Traffic
Department hosted a massive roadblock yesterday. They searched specifically Avanza vehicles used as inner-city taxis for any signs of criminality. The Fetakgomo Greater Tubatse Municipality also promised a written response for next week’s newspaper. In the meantime, be careful not to become a victim.

First Chrome Masters tournament played The first Chrome Masters Golf tournament took place last week Friday and Saturday. It was played over two days and entrants came from all over to participate. The event is set to become of the major competitions at the Tubatse Chrome Golf Club. 72 players participated and eventually Collins Makola became the tournament champion. The players also had a lot of fun with the Players auction and the 10 winners (photograph bottom left) smiled all the way. The Club would like to thank everyone who participated, sponsored and were involved in making this event a highlight on the 2017 golfing calendar.
Modikwa athletes at Soweto Marathon The annual Soweto Marathon took place on 5 November this year. Modikwa Marathon Club athletes participated in the different categories. In the 42km race Capri Maluleke (04:12:36), Jeffrey Nkuna (03:18:53), Mokaila Tjie (04:00:02), Violet Mabitla (05:27:34) and Isaac Mkhabela (03:14) participated.
