Have your say on Education Laws Amendment Bill Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga says interested parties will get another opportunity make inputs on the draft Basic Education Laws Amendment (BELA) Bill. The comments deadline was Friday, 10 November. However, there have been many calls for an extension due to the great public interest. “Owing to the unexpectedly large number of submissions that were received, the department was unfortunately not able to acknowledge receipt of each submission. “There was a substantial number of requests for an extension of the 10 November deadline, to which the department was unable to respond. “To those who did not receive a response to their requests for an extension, and to any other individuals and organisations who were unable to submit their comments by the deadline date, we can give assurances that there will be an additional opportunity, in line with normal policy development processes,” Minister Motshekga said in a statement. The draft bill proposes to amend the South African Schools Act (SASA), 1996 (Act No. 84 of 1996), the Employment of Educators Act (EEA), 1998 (Act No. 76 of 1898).

Isaiah 25:4 (NIV) 4 You have been a refuge for the poor,a refuge for the needy in their distress, a shelter from the storm and a shade from the heat. For the breath of the ruthless is like a storm driving against a wall
Finally The Eerstegeluk/Tukakgomo road is one of those long overdue road projects, but residents are starting to feel what a good road surface means. The road has been transformed over the last few months. The contruction is not finished yet, but a large portion of the road has been completed with a new tar surface
- the days of dodging potholes are gone. Road markings are still needed and the section at the cross towards Ga-Mampuru was still being constructed during the newspaper’s visit to the area. Drivers came driving past with time to spare a smile without the risk of landing in a pothole.

Danger on the roads On Monday this week a truck trailer containing chrome ore was accidently tipped over next to the road in Steelpoort. Accidents happen, that is not always news. What did draw the reporter’s attention was the almost mirror flat surface of the truck on the border of the accident scene. The question arose as to how trucks with tyres that are obviously not complying to the law is allowed to simply continue driving on the roads while endangering the lives of fellow road users? Perhaps the current traffic operations should include targeting trucks?

Multiple sports feature in Mayor’s Cup Bogwasha Primary School’s sport fields came alive on Saturday 11 November 2017 as sport-loving people from all parts of Fetakgomo-Greater Tubatse Municipality gathered to participate and support teams in the Mayor’s Cup tournament. The host, Mayor Johannes Phokane gave a short message of encouragement and kicked-off the ball to symbolise the official opening of the games. In his opening address, accompanied by Councillors from the local municipality, talent scouts and sport practitioners, he urged young people not to destroy their promising future by bowing down to peer pressure and negative influences. “Use your time and talents to sharpen and brighten your future. There are only two places to do that – on the sport field and at school. We brought you here as an encouragement to hold-on to sport as your escape from the troubles out there” he said. He told the eager audience of participants across different sporting codes that the Mayor’s Cup is a humble way through which the municipality helps young people to take full control of their destiny and create a path of success. “In sport you are not only safe, you have a chance to be healthy and pave a brighter future for yourself and your family. This municipality is the home of many sport achievers such as the late Thomas Madigage and we have a duty to honour such a great legacy by excelling in different sporting codes” added Mayor Phokane. The all-day tournament was played by grass-
roots sport clubs from the length and breadth of Fetakgomo-Greater Tubatse Municipality. In netball, Tubatse Mighty Netball Club outshone Mphanama (Magagamatala) Netball Club, while in Volleyball Diphale Volleyball Team was just too strong for their runner-up Radingwana Volleyball Team. In the game of wits and smart moves, Lions of Nakgwadi Chess Club out-smarted their Ga-Mashabela counterparts. On the soccer field Mandagshoek Football Club showed a little respect for the hosting Praktiseer Football Club. A sensational highlight of the Mayor’s Cup tournament was the Ladies Football’s nail biting action where Riba Cross and Motlolo Ladies Football Cubs played to a one all draw at the final whistle of the game. They proceeded to a penalty shoot-out which saw Motlolo lifting the trophy owing to the 4-2 win. The cherry-on-top was the new home-grown sporting code - TUPS Sport, which made its debut appearance as a competitive code in the Fetakgomo-Greater Tubatse Mayor’s Cup. The TUPS Sport final match was played between Strydkraal TUPS Club and Radingwana TUPS Club. Strydkraal, just like fellow winners, scooped the trophies and gold medal for its set of players to proudly take home. In his closing address during the awards ceremony, Mayor Phokane expressed his appreciation to all participants for lifting the name of Fetakgomo-Greater Tubatse to new heights, making it a centre of excellence in grassroots sport development.
