Eastplats sells Barplats - keeps Mareesburg, Spitzkop and Kennedy’s Vale

Eastern Platinum Limited has announced that it has reached a definitive agreement with Hebei Zhongheng Tianda Platinum Co. Limited (HZT), a private company incorporated in the People’s Republic of China whereby HZT will acquire the company’s South African subsidiary, Barplats Mines Limited, which holds the Crocodile River Mine, and associated intercorporate investments and loans, for US$50 million payable in cash on closing. The sale is subject to certain conditions, including approvals by the necessary regulatory bodies and governmental departments or ministries of South Africa. Upon closing, HZT will assume operating responsibility for the Crocodile River Mine and ownership of Barplats Mines Limited. Eastplats will continue to maintain ownership of its Eastern Limb projects, which include the Mareesburg, Spitzkop and Kennedy’s Vale projects in the Steelpoort and area. “We are pleased that HZT’s plans to inject foreign capital and the creation of much needed jobs will stimulate socio-economic development in areas surrounding the CRM mine.” said David Cohen, President and CEO of Eastplats. “We will retain our large and shallow eastern limb PGM project base. While the PGM sector remains under pressure, closing the transaction will leave Eastplats extremely well capitalized.” HZT has represented and warranted to Eastplats that it is not connected with Hebei Zhongbo Platinum Co. Ltd., the company which had a previous arrangement to acquire all of Eastplats’ South African assets. That transaction was not completed due to ongoing shareholder disputes within Hebei Zhongbo Platinum Co. Ltd.
The gravel speed humps erected by residents of Kutullo on the R555 road near Steel Bridge between Steelpoort and De Hoop Dam, had fast turned into points of roadside trade - creating another kind of danger as seen in the photograph.

1 Timothy 1:15 (NIV) ‘Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners - of whom I am the worst’.
Hawker stalls stripped by thieves Hawker stalls in Burgersfort is a sensitive subject after these business people had their stalls removed by the Red Ants two years ago only to continue waiting for the municipality to finish work on the new stalls two years later.
Mr Godfrey Mnisi is using a piece of ceiling board to cover the holes where thieves stole the flat steel tops of his stall.
Money has run dry and as many projects it came to a halt - unfinished. The hawkers with permits were however allowed to move into some of the completed sections of the project. Stalls with lock-up storage space, sinks and proper working or displaying areas are now being stripped down for scrap metal by thieves. Sinks were stolen before the hawkers could even taste the comfort of running water in their stalls. According to the hawkers they just try to make due with what is left and improvise to make life easier. They’ve reported the problem to the municipality but not much is being done to prevent further damage to the stalls as there is no security service patrolling this area. “Business is already very poor and now we have to deal with this as well when we try to keep to the rules of the municipality,” one complained. “That is why many hawkers simply still cook and operate anywhere they want” he added. The hawkers are appealing to scrap metal recovering agents to not buy these stolen metal items.
Lockers in the stalls are being broken at the hinges to remove doors.

Information was followed up and the four were arrested at Lydenburg town by the Lydenburg visible policing members while in possession of the items stolen at the farm Strydfontein, Ohrigstad. Two suspects were detained at the Lydenburg SAPS for possession of stolen property while the other two were taken to Ohrigstad for further investigation. istrate’s Court on 29 June 2016 on charges of burglary and they were all denied bail and were reminded in custody for further investigation until their next appearance on 6 July 2016 at the Praktiseer Magistrate Court. Investigations to link the five suspects with other housebreakings and burglaries in the area is ongoing. The arrest of the five is a clear indication that the police are serious about preventing and reducing crime in our area. As the police we urge members of the community not to buy stolen goods just because they are offered at a cheaper price, as this contributes to crimes such as robbery and housebreaking, and anyone found in possession of stolen or suspected stolen property will be arrested” said Const. Phokane from the Ohrigstad SAPS. (Information: Constable Kholofelo Phokane, Ohrigstad SAPS)
On Thursday 23 June the SAPS Women’s Network held an operation led by the Ohrigstad Station Commander, Capt G.P Mashego at the Ohrigstad policing area. The four stations, Ohrigstad, Leboeng, Mecklenburg, Burgersfort joined hands with the Ohrigstad CPF to host a stop and search operation on the R36 road focusing on stolen vehicles, transporting of illegal goods and property, illegal drugs and firearms and undocumented persons amongst other things. Three undocumented persons were arrested while busy hiking to Burgersfort. The members proceeded to a farm next to Rusplaas and while conducting a search there, they arrested a 73-year old man for selling liquor without a license and for possession of dagga weighing 1.138g. “As the police we want to send a strong message to our communities that we will not leave any stone unturned as far as criminal activities are concerned and we will continue to have this kind of operations on a regular basis and any person who commit any act of crime should remember that we will not hesitate to arrest them” said Const. Phokane. (Information: Constable Kholofelo Phokane, Ohrigstad SAPS)
Women raped after visit to tavern A 29-year old man was arrested by the Tubatse SAPS on 26 June 2016 in connection with two rape cases. The arrest follows after the crime which occurred in Praktiseer on Friday 24 June at about 02H00 in the morning. Two women aged 23 and 26 years old were allegedly raped by two unknown men. The two women claim that they were coming from a liquor outlet and when they arrived at their rooms, two unknown men came and dragged them to the nearby bushes and raped them. The matter was reported in Tubatse police and cases of Rape were opened for further investigation. On Sunday 26 June one of the victims identified one of the alleged suspects and she called the police. The police made follow ups and managed to arrest the suspect. The police would like to warn women to stop going to taverns during the nights. “Most of our rape victims are coming from the liquor outlets during the nights. The police would once again ask children to report sexual offences to someone they can trust like a teacher, a nurse, a friend or the police. Make sure that it is reported to someone that can make it stop, no matter if the perpetrator is related to you”. (Information: Const. Mvundlela S.J, Tubatse SAPS).

Working! On Friday 24 June the Greater Tubatse Municipality’s traffic officers were all working hard. They managed to relief congestion in the central business area by acting as pointsmen and women. They had also clearly been practising the skill as traffic was directed in this manner at three different intersections. Unsincronised actions could have led to chaos. Instead, traffic flowed at a reasonable pace and officers not controlling traffic had an eye open for offenders not obeying the law. Imagine month-end with this intervention!
Problems in Aloe Ridge West Residents from Aloe Ridge West in Burgersfort complained to the newspaper about the state of their neighbourhood which is filled with street lights that are not working, leaking water supplies and the occasional cattle pass through over which there is no control. These photographs were taken on Wednesday this week.
The water leak is in Ficus Street and is doubling up as a drinking hole for wandering cattle in the area.
