Wildevy 4x4 action on pages 4, 5 & 6

Marota Primary School in Ga-Motodi represented Limpopo at the Motsepe Eisteddfod in Randburg during the July school holidays. The school participated in the category Folklore, and their traditional dancers and choir made everyone proud when they were crowned the winners in this category. They won R10 000 and a trophy for the school. On Monday last week the school celebrated the achievement with the choir conductor, Mrs. ME. Sekhukhune, school principal Mr MF. Lekgau, teachers, SGB representatives and traditional leaders of the area. The group also gave the school a special celebratory performance.

Plan, act and grow

Samancor ECM hosted their annual site Indaba last week. This event serves as a platform for the company and employees to engage about the state of the company, achievements, challenges and concerns. The central message of the Indaba was that in order for the company to grow and provide job security to its employees, it is essential to do proper planning and act according to the plan to yield eventual growth. Apart from management delivering various messages, employees had the opportunity to ask questions and get clarity on questions they might have.

Employees were commended for their safety record.

Women’s Month launched Women’s Month was launched in the province by the Provincial Government on 1 August. The event took place at Leboeng and Acting Premier, MEC Makoma Makhurupetje and Executive Mayor of the Sekhukhune District Municipality were of the honoured guests. The SAPS’ band, local school choirs and cultural groups performed.

Cosatu plans Women’s Day march Cosatu Limpopo will have a march against Gender Based Violence on 9 August 2017. They will gather at the Bothashoek Clinic at 08:30 and proceed to the Tubatse (Praktiseer) Police Station. At 12:00 there will be a commemorative event at Tubatse Primary School where one of the former leaders will be honoured. The public is welcome to join in and march together for this important issue. ‘Doctors & Nurses’ cook up a storm for charity at 4x4 Day

D

warsrivier Chrome Mine (DCM) annually supports the Wildevy 4x4 Family Day. This year’s event took place on Saturday 29 July 2017. This event is filled with fun and all the funds raised are directed towards charitable projects such as blankets for the elderly and bursaries for needy students. DCM’s Proto Team and Mines Rescue partnered to cook two pot-

jies on the day. The potjiekos is sold for charity at the event. The team’s theme for the day was ‘Doctors and Nurses’ and they were also judged on their team spirit and the effort put into their stall. Some employees also par cipated in the actual 4x4 part of the event and joined the group around the potjies later in the day. For the DCM team the event is always a good team building opportunity, but also marks their commitment and involvement in the community. Ini a ves like these that are embedded in the community are seen as some of the partners DCM has who are helping to create a be er life for everyone. Apart from the team’s prepara on of the potjies in the Potjiekos compe on, they also had a fun filled day watching the 4x4 ac on, browsing the exhibitor stalls and having their own braai with delicious boerewors rolls on the side.

Wildevy 4x4 Day 2017

NUUS Dust, mud and loads of 4x4 fun marked this year’s Wildevy 4x4 Day. The day took place at PLM Boerdery and thousands of visitors flocked through the gates to the Wildevy MTB Race and 4x4 Family Day. The overall winning team of the day was Pieter and Francois Venter. In the Men’s category Japie Combrink and James Welding took first place. The first mixed team was Nico and Mariette Boshoff. The first all ladies team was Jessica Combrink and Logan Welding. The best potjie in the potjiekos competition was cooked by North Safety. The team with the best team spirit was Burgersfort Electrical. The team with the best theme was Electro Diesel. The best ‘take-no-prisoners pot’ was build by Burgersfort Electrical. The General Potjie winner was Electro Diesel. The day’s best challenge sponsor was Hendrik’s Panelbeaters and the best exhibitor of the day was 1 Stop Midas. The Wildevy Manne would like to thank everyone for their contribution towards the success of the day.

Selala Build It officially opened On Friday 28 July Selala Build It was officially opened. The store will serve an area that was in dire need of store that could supply in all their building needs - from bricks to plumbing, electrical, carpentry, gardening and much more. Wildevy 4x4 Dag lok groot skare Die Wildevy 4x4 Gesinsdag het verlede week Saterdag plaasgeving. Die dag het rekord getalle toeskouers gelok en soos elke jaar was een van die dag se hoogtepunte die ‘Show Stopper’ waar daar deur dik modder en water gejaag word. Die dag se uitslae is op bladsy 5.

Hendrik’s Panelbeaters was die beste puntborg vir die dag.

1 Stop Midas was die beste uitstaller.

Electro Diesel se span was van die potjiekos wenners.

Die Laeveld Ratels se stalletjie was baie gewild.

Beeskraal was een van die groepe wat met die Wildevy 2017 opgetree het.

Modikwa Marathon Club runners participated in the Foskor 21,1km road race last weekend. Their results were: James Mohlala (1:20:16); Justice Phokane (01:32:10); Innocent Ngobeni (01:36:14); Jerry Moela (1:45:17); Themba Mahumane (1:47:35); Karel Morethe (01:51:07); Kenny Vilakazi (02:05:01); Kobona Morethe (02:18:03); Charles Mohlahlana (02:33:13); Marumo Moloto (02:58:07). Magisi Kgoete ran the 10km race in 01:18:01. What makes this race different is that it is only ran at 14:00 in the afternoon. A challenge Phalaborwa’s hot weather. At the Garagopola sports ground the Thomas Madigage Soccer Tournament is being played. Last weekend the following teams played: Morethe FC won 4-2 on penalties against Stone FC. Mohlophi FC and Arandies FC also went to penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw. Mohlopi won 4-3. Batau FC won 3-0 against Mathipa FC. Tearing FC and All Stars FC drew 2-2 before going on to determine Tearing as the winner with penalties. This weekend the semi-final of the tournament will be played on Saturday at the Mooihoek Sports Ground. The public is invited to come and support their teams. SPORT Wildevy MTB race 2017 The Wildevy MTB race took place on Saturday last week and had the most entrants since the inception of the race. The race offers a 50km, 20km, 10km and 2,5km categories. This year the men’s 50km race was

won by Franco Pelser in a time of 02:03:01. Kirsten Gillespie took the women’s race in this category in a time of 2:34:50. Riaan Smit won the 20km Men’s race and Stephanie Frits the Women’s race. In the 10km race Dylan Visser won the Men’s race and Christie van Wyk the Women’s race. Steelpoort Academy’s leaders and their mothers made sure there is enough food for everyone and Spur who is one of the main sponsors, kept the children entertained at the jumping castle.
