Summer is here (and the rains)
This bee was hard at work, collecting pollen on a flower at Tubatse Chrome Club last week Saturday. As if it is not enough the first drops of rain started to wash away the dust on Thursday.

The terrible smell in a certain part of Burgersfort on Tuesday (especially the parking lot adjacent to the Burgersfort Medical Centre building), was what you feared. Sewerage, that broke loose from a hole in the wall in an adjacent building. Some say the hole was opened up by somebody when the adjacent building could not contain the mess any more. Whatever the case may be, this problem was brought under the attention of the Greater Tubatse Municipality many times. On Tuesday an employee was dropped off to clear the mess, but a lasting solution to the problem has not materialised yet.

Even if you do not plan to die, do you have a will? Limpopo
7 SEPTEMBER 2012
NEWS
Between 17 and 21 September 2012, attorneys participating in the National Wills Week will draft basic wills free of charge. Only a new basic will will be drafted - no amendments to existing wills. An appointment must be made with a participating attorney or firm. Why must you have a will? By making a will you ensure that your assets are disposed of in accordance with your wishes after your death. This privilege is called “freedom of testation”. Why should an attorney draft your will? Attorneys are professionals qualified in law. An attorney can advise you on any problem which may arise with regard to your will. An attorney has the necessary knowledge and expertise to ensure that your will is valid and complies with your wishes. Often a will is not valid because the person who drafts it does not have the necessary legal knowledge to ensure that the requirements of the law are met. What happens to your estate if you die without a valid will? If you die without leaving a valid will, your assets will be distributed according to the provisions of the Intestate Succession Act. The provisions of this Act are generally fair and ensure that your possessions are transferred to your spouse and children. BUT, the following problems may arise if you die without leaving a will: • Your assets may not be left to the person of your choice. • It can take a long time to have an executor appointed. The executor who is appointed may be somebody you may not have chosen yourself. • There can be extra and unnecessary costs. • There can be unhappiness and conflict among members of your family because there are no clear instructions on how to distribute your assets.

Thorburn Security Solutions invests on Spring Day with ‘Thorburn Karretjie’ Spring Day 1 September 2012 saw the residents of the Magimeng Village near Steelpoort benefitting from another Thorburn social investment initiative. Water supply to residents is problematic and the general supply is from a single water point (manually pumped borehole) into 25 liter containers and transporting a maximum of two containers on a wheelbarrow – uphill and downhill. Local Eastern Limb mining security services provider Thorburn Security Solutions designed a “Thorburn Karretjie (pull or push cart)” which would ease the problem for many residents. Based on the principle of a trailer, this “Thorburn Karretjie” can carry 15 water containers (maybe more) and is pushed or pulled, allowing ample handle space for two people to push or pull. If not used for water transportation it could be used for any form of transport – a “spaza shop on wheels”, funeral support carrier, wood carrier or whatever needs to be transported and manually pushed or pulled. An entrepreneur would collect water cans, fill and deliver for a fee! Over the past 6 years Thorburn Security Solutions embedded themselves in the Eastern Limb of the Bushveld Complex and has grown in product, services and community support stature with a recent expansion in services to Platinum Australia at Smokey Hill. Not long ago bread, blankets and beanie hats were donated in Maandagshoek near Driekop in the mining areas of Modikwa Platinum Mine, Dilokong Mining, Mooihoek Chrome Mine and Platinum Australia as part of a Thorburn Winter Ice Breaker Project. The “Thorburn Karretjie” was in the absence of the Magimeng Village Chief Kghosi Petrus Maroga accepted by his wife Me Sophy Maroga.

7 SEPTEMBER 2012 Two Rivers Platinum near Steelpoort, where the emerging Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (AMCU) has been the majority labour union for the past 18 months, is the best-cost producer on the eastern limb of the Bushveld Complex, with excellent output, Mike Schmidt, CEO of the black-controlled African Rainbow Minerals (ARM) says. Schmidt told the publication Mining Weekly Online in an interview this week that figures for the period showed that unit costs rose 18% at ARM’s National Union of Mineworkers- (NUM-)dominant Modikwa platinum operation - where there was a fiveweek strike and two fatalities - while unit costs at the AMCU-dominant Two Rivers rose only 6%, with 5% of it the result of general inflation. ARM reported that Two Rivers performed well operationally, increasing tons milled by 5% and lifting platinum-group metals (PGMs) production to 320 113 oz , 12 951 oz more than in the previous financial year, while Modikwa performed badly operationally, decreasing tons milled by 5% and lowering PGMs production to 304 044 oz, 15 292 oz less than in the previous year.
3
NUUS Schmidt said that ARM worked well with AMCU. “Two Rivers continues to be the bestcost producer, with very, very good output, and it’s AMCU-dominant,” he told the publicationsaid. On union representation at the rest of ARM’s operations being NUM-dominant, Schmidt added: “We also have a good longstanding relationship with NUM, which has developed a high level of maturity and we’re very comfortable with them as a union.” The diversified ARM, which is headed by executive chairperson Patrice Motsepe, is invested in PGMs, nickel, chrome, iron-ore, manganese, coal and gold. Although as a rule labour unions required 30% worker membership to gain employer recognition, at some ARM operations the recognition threshold was as low as 15%. Where friction and infighting took place was at operations where the recognition threshold was 50% plus one. “We need to question whether that’s healthy and whether that should not be revisited,” Schmidt commented. While he conceded that the rise of AMCU to the position of majority union at Two Rivers was
“not without pain”, he believed that the close relationship of management with the relatively small 2 500-strong workforce did make a difference. While, ideally, employers would prefer not to have to deal with more than one union in the same bargaining unit, it was process that they had no option but to accept. “Other than Modikwa, which is a labourintensive operation, most of our operations are either opencast or mechanised and have very well experienced and competent people, so our labour component is well managed,” Schmidt said at this week’s presentation of results. Overall, Modikwa contributed less than 5% to earnings and ARM would be comfortable with an exposure of double that within the labour-intensive space. At the current rate of production, ARM would be able to mine at Modikwe for another 100 years and by doubling that responsibly, it could still mine there for more than 40 years. ARM depends on labour for less than 40% of its earnings component and other than at Modikwa, it employed no rock drill operators. On the opportunity for greater mechanisation, Schmidt said the degree to
which a mine could be mechanised was orebody dependent. The mechanised Two Rivers, an underground bord-and-pillar operation, had an exceptionally high output per person as the lowest-cost producer on the eastern limb.
AMCUdominant Two Rivers is lowestcost platinum producer

Are the SABC TV channels relying A study by Media Monitoring Africa between 1 April and 15 May this year showed that the SABC TV channels and selected radio stations relied heavily on repeating programmes to fill their broadcasting schedule. According to the report’s findings SABC 1 used 28% of its broadcasting time on repeats, SABC 2 21 % and SABC 3 15%. When sport and news are excluded from what counts as local content 59% of what was seen on the three channels were local programming. According to their broadcasting license requirements SABC1 and SABC2 as public service stations are required to provide viewers with at least 55% local content between 4am and 11pm every day. SABC 3 is required to show 35% local content as it is treated as a commercial station. English was found to be the dominating language on these channels with about 76% of programmes in English. Afrikaans makes up about 6% and other languages approximately 3% each. We asked readers what they think about these findings and the way the SABC presents them with programmes. We also asked what they would like to see more of on SABC TV.
Mr Calvin Matjeke said: “They have to change the way SABC is at the moment. I want a better mix of South African and overseas programmes. It is fine if the programmes are in English”.
Mr Bennett Malatjie said: “SABC repeats Generations too much. They must make more South African programmes. I also want more soccer”.
Dr Thobakgale said: “I think the problem, is that there are not so many authors for soapies and that is why they are repeated. All languages must be equal. We must have South African programmes and ones from outside”. With him are Balokile and Itumeleng.
Mr Makhushi Mafologela said: “I am fine with them repeating the programmes they broadcast. They cater for those people who worked night shift by showing it in the morning again. They are taking their viewership into consideration”.
Mr David Matemane said: “They must be creative and not always repeating their programmes. They need to think about new things. It is boring people if they repeat programmes. People then rather go to the DSTV channels. The present system for languages is fine. English is a medium of instruction”.
Mr Elvis Mhlongo said: “They are supposed to put new programmes on television. They must use the African languages. I want programmes from here and overseas”.
Me Joey Vorster sê: “Ons is baie ongelukkig daaroor dat hulle alles so baie herhaal. ‘n Mens betaal ten duurste jou TV lisensie en dan moet jy môre weer na dieselfde goed kyk. Hier by ons het jy ook nog ‘n satellietskottel nodig om na TV1, 2 en 3 te kan kyk en dit kos jou ook nog R600 - net om herhalings te sien. Dis bloedgeld!”
Mr Bongani Ndlovu said: “I want other stories. I don’t want repeats. To see what happened yesterday again and again is not good. They must bring us new stories in English. It does not matter if the stories are from here or overseas”.
Mr Elmon Mahlangu and Ms Sinkey Mahlangu said: “It must be different from what it is now. Even on Saturdays they show repeats of programmes. You see Generations at night, during the day and on Saturdays! Languages are not a problem, it can be as it is now”. With them is Dima Mahlangu. Left: Mr Andries Mkhawane and Mr Piet Mkhawane said: “They must stop repeating over and over. They say it is because of popular demand, but we think it is because of bad management. They don’t indicate PG (parental guidance) or warn of bad things. The other day we watched Muvhango with our small children and in that episode someone was raped. They did not warn us that there will be disturbing scenes”.

on repeating programmes too much?
Mr Potloza Lekgeu and Ms Georgina Lekgeu said: “We are not satisfied with all the repitition. They don’t have much Sepedi and Afrikaans on SABC. They use programmes from overseas like the Bold and the Beautiful over and over. They must make more local programmes. We must pay our TV licences as it is the right thing to do. They must increase educational programmes in all languages”.
Mnr Jacob Molzawo sê: “Ek wil meer Swazi op TV hê. My kind hoor nie daai taal iewers anders as by die huis nie. Ek is nie ge-worry oor die stories nie”.
Mr Goodwill Motene said: “There are old people and people who did not go to school that cannot understand English or Afrikaans. Then they watch TV and people advertise things but they only advertise it in English or Afrikaans. The old people then see something that they like but cannot understand what is being said. I want advertisements in other languages. They must balance it. I don’t want them to repeat stories more than twice on TV”.
Mr Danny Ngwendana said: “It is not good to repeat things every day. They must come with new programmes. People don’t want to buy TV licenses because they repeat every day on the SABC channels. They must balance all languages to suit all people”.
Mr Thabo Mmole said: “They must change the repeating situation. Repeating too much is not right. I would like more news and want stories from overseas and South Africa”.
Mnr. Stefan Pienaar en me. Chelsea Ferreira sê: “Ons kyk glad nie na die SABC kanale nie. Ons kyk eerder DSTV. Hulle moet dalk meer Engels op die SABC kanale sit”. By hulle is Duané Ferreira.
Ms Nosiphelo Mdunyelwa said: “Many dramas are repeated. I’d like to have Xhosa programmes”.
Mr Andrew Mjhoka, Mr Richmond Mosoma, Mr James Moretsele and Mr Jabu Kopotsa said: “We want more local languages on SABC. We are tired of them repeating the stories. They must make the programmes they show here in South Africa so that they can do job creation and young people like us can take part in it”. Right: Mr Jacob Sekgobela and Mr Matthews Makhubedu said: “It is better to have soapies in all languages. We’ve noticed they repeat a lot. They must give more Sepedi and Zulu programmes. The problem is that they are poor with producing programmes”.
Mr Johannes Mahlako said: “The problem is that many people stay in areas where they cannot get SABC TV because there is no signal or electricity. They must fix that first and then worry about the repeats”.

Buffels to final Winterveld Rugby Club or the Buffels as they are also affectionately known jumped a place on the log after the first team on the log won number three with a large point difference. This meant that the Buffels did not face Noordelikes in the semi-final as was previously reported, but Pietersburg Dorp Club (No. 2 on the log). It was a hard and serious game from the word go. “We were fortunate to draw first blood by scoring the first try complete with a conversion. The try was scored by our inside centre, Tolly and converted by Siha, our fly half.” says Charl van der Merwe from the Buffels. The opposing team also scored a try in the first half but failed to convert. The half time score was 7-5. “ In the second half, we successfully kicked a penalty goal, giving us a 5-point lead. But it was not for long. Dorp scored their second try and failed to convert, leaving the score at 10 each. About 10 minutes before the end whistle blew, our
inside centre managed to score his second try, bringing the score to 10-15 in our advantage”. “I want to congratulate the team on their perseverance and determination. It wasn’t just a physical win, but a mental accomplishment as well. The “underdogs” of the league caused a major upset by winning the Dorp club on home ground. Well-done men! Saturday we will be facing the no.1 in our league for a few years running. Just give it your best, play as a team and enjoy the current achievement. We are proud of you! The Winterveld Rugby Club will be facing the Noordelikes on Saturday in Polokwane. The game will take place on Noordelikes’ home ground on the corner of Woodbush and Buluwayo Streets in Ladanna. Kick-off is scheduled for 16:00. “Thank you to all our supporters and sponsors: Pick and Pay Steelpoort, Mopane Café, Macsteel Steelpoort and the Stone Age roadhouse in Polokwane.” “For the love of the game!” Charl concluded.

2013 Comrades Marathon entries open The 88th Comrades Marathon will take place on Sunday 2 June 2013. Being an ‘up-run’, the traditional gunfire goes off outside Durban’s City Hall at 05h30 and go off again 12 hours later at The Cricket Oval in Pietermaritzburg to signal the end of the 86.9km road-running challenge. Prospective entrants have until 30 November 2012 or as soon as the cap of 18000 entries has been reached to get their entries in. Thereafter, no entries will be accepted so runners are urged to enter as soon as possible or risk missing out. The Comrades Marathon Association’s (CMA) Race Director, Johan Van Staden has encouraged all South African Comrades runners to enter by 30 September 2012 to be eligible for the ‘early bird’ entry fee of R300 (the same cost as in 2012). Van Staden says, ‘It is our South African athletes who have catapulted the Comrades Marathon onto its premier status on the road-running scene and we aim to cater for them accordingly. Hence, the CMA has implemented its ‘early bird’ entry fee in recent years to show our appreciation to our local runners.’ The new increased entry fee of R320 will kick in on 1 October 2012 until the entry process is closed. Runners from the Rest of Africa will be charged an entry fee of R500 and the cost to International athletes is $US180. The entry requirements, which are clearly indicated on the entry form, must be adhered to at all times or runners risk losing their place at the Start. Entries may be effected as follows: · online via the Comrades Marathon website: www.comrades.com; · at Mr Price Sport, Home and Clothing stores countrywide; · through the post by posting the completed entry form with proof of payment to the CMA Office in Pietermaritzburg: P.O. Box 100621, Scottsville, 3209; · Comrades Marathon House: by handing in the completed entry form together with payment at the CMA office in Pietermaritzburg. Please note that runners may enter the great race before running a qualifying race (minimum qualifying distance of 42.2km). Qualifying details must be submitted to the CMA by 6 May 2013.

Derde - 115 punte: R Conrad, C Conrad, A Galanthe en B Swart.
Vrolike Flower Power vroue het langs die pad gesorg dat die spelers kon keel natmaak.
