The youth is important In celebrating Child Protection Week, the police in Ohrigstad led by social crime prevention coordinator, Sgt Kholofelo Phokane, jointly with Vispol members, CPF and YAC members conducted two separate awareness campaigns around Ohrigstad policing area. In the first campaign they conducted a Take a Girl/Boy Child to Work campaign where they invited five girls and five boys from Maepa Primary school on Wednesday 2018-05-30 to the police station. The learners were taken through a journey to all offices at the station meeting managers and they were given orientation on how managers of each office are contributing towards the running of the station and their contribution towards the reduction of crime in line with the National Crime Prevention Strategy (NCPS). In another campaign conducted on Friday 2018-06-01, the members visited Ngwanatsela Crèche at Maepa Village outside Ohrigstad town to celebrate International Day of Children with them. During his address, Sgt Phokane send a strong message to the little ones that they must never accept any food from strangers, they must never allow any strangers to touch their body parts, they must never walk on the streets alone and they must also report any form of abuse to their parents, teachers and or to the police. Candlelight Memorial at Leboeng Fetakgomo Tubatse Local Municipality Mayor Cllr Johannes Maudu Phokane attended the International AIDS Candlelight Memorial held in Leboeng village last Sunday. The International AIDS Candlelight Memorial started in 1983 and takes place every third Sunday in May. Candlelight Memorial Day is a day in remembrance to all the friends, family, or co-workers people have lost to HIV and AIDS. Candlelight Memorial Day is an opportunity to acknowledge how HIV & AIDS has affected everyone’s life. A The Mayor, Cllr Phokane said to the participants, “a candle represents light and hope. In many cultures and traditions, lighting a candle is a ritual of remembrance for those who have died. Light a candle for someone you love who has been affected by HIV & AIDS, in many case we observe a moment of silence. That silence is a sign of respect for those who you have loved and lost. Take a moment before your family meal, before bed, or upon waking”. In his conclusion Mayor Phokane said “Candlelight Memorial Day is also a day of reminding ourselves of the way forward. It is a wonderful opportunity to involve your community in learning more about HIV & AIDS and appealed to everyone to know their status”. 1 Corinthians 9:24-27 (NIV) The Need for Self-Discipline 24 Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. 25 Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. 26 Therefore I do not run like someone running aimlessly; I do not fight like a boxer beating the air. 27 No, I strike a blow to my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize.

Global Day of Prayer hosted in Kgautswane
Villagers attend party of appreciation The residents of Majaditshukudu Village gave thanks for everything they have during an appreciation party hosted by Chief Selahle and his wife. The event took place on 5 May and the keynote speaker of the day was Pastor Manamela. Other local pastors also attended the occasion with the villagers. “The party was to give thanks to the Almighty God for being with the chief so far”. (Informaton and photograph: Moses Mashaba)
Boxer Superstores care Boxer Superstores in Burgersfort visited Majiditshukudu Village to donate groceries to some of the villagers in dire need of assistance. Boxer cares about the communities supporting their stores. Cooking oil, sugar, cremora, juice, mealie meal, candles and more were donated in an event at the Selahle Royal Palace on 24 May 2018. Villagers were also encouraged to support the stores by shopping there. Those who received donations were very thankful for the assistance and praised Boxer for the initiative.

Kgautswane believers recently gathered pray for the world and all the challenges that God’s people are faced with globally. The gathering was held at Kgautswane Full Gospel Church of God. Believers commonly agreed that the world needs nothing but God’s intervention to be healed from turmoil in all walks of life because human powers are limited. Bishop Mohlala preached and empha-
sised that the believers need to make prayer on their own a lifestyle. “We live in a corrupt world that need the true prayer warriors”. The scripture that themed the gathering was Mark 11:24. Bishop Mohlala promised to organise the annual event again next year and thanked everyone who attended. (Information en photographs: Ike Mashaba)

Can we still achieve the dream In 1994 South Africa stood at the beginning of a new dawn. The dawn of a rainbow nation. The dream was that everyone would have their right to prosper and live in harmony together. Much has been written about how far we’ve come, the achievements, but also disillusionment for many about what they expected and where we are today. Racism is one of the topics that is constantly being addressed. People acting out racist rants in public or on social media. The recent sentencing of Vicky Momberg to three years imprisonment (one year suspended) for racial abuse of traffic officers and police emergency call centre operators are just some of the not so beautiful aspects in the spotlight. Racial tension is further put under pressure with the land reform debate with some politicians insisting the ‘the land was stolen’ and organisations seeking international help for white South Africans, especially farmers that they say are under siege. This is a debate on its own with research about farm attacks being published regularly for both sides of the issue. One of the most recent, very public spats were between Supersport presenters Ashwin Willemse and his co-hosts Naas Botha and Nick Mallet, when Willemse walked off set during a live broadcast saying he will not be ‘patronised’. President Cyril Ramaphosa recently addressed the increased racial tension. “The ANC believes South Africa belongs to all who live in it. The Freedom Charter is clear,” he told the South African National Editors’ Forum (Sanef). He added that he was concerned
about the race relations in South Africa and that all racial groups have a role to play and should feel at home in the country. Platinum Gazette asked readers if they think South Africa can still achieve the non-racial rainbow nation dream of 1994.
Left: Mr Morewane Tsietsi and Mr Joseph Zondani had differing opinions. Mr Morewane Tsietsi said: “Ja, I’ve got hope. There should be more discussions between the different races for better understanding. The law bringing punishment for racist behaviour will also help”. Mr Joseph Zondani said: “No, we are too divided. Among black people it is a tribal issue. Among black and white it is racial. People also tend to do the following: a rich white person will still help a poor black person, but not easily a poor white person. A rich black person will not help a poor black person, they will rather assist a poor white person. The difference is that the rich white person will give you skills as well. They will show you how to do a job so you can use that skills in future”.
Mr Christoph Mokoena said: “We can get rid of racism. The problem is money. Land is also an issue. When you take the land you should give it to people who have been trained how to work on it and produce from it. Check their education because the consequences of not performing on that land will impact our country and economy. They should also not just take the land. Give the current farmers shares and have them assist with advice and training or pay them something at least”.
Mr Surprise Malapane said: “I think we can still achieve this. If we can give the EFF a chance to rule this country we can achieve this. It is the only party that can unite this country. The EFF is not against white people. We are against those who oppress our people”.
Mr Samuel Mohlala said: “We can achieve it. If we can respect each other we can achieve it. It is the highest thing we can achieve. It should start at home – we’ve lost that. In school the kids love each other, but he problem is the parents. In each race there are a few who still have a racist attitude”. Me.
Excellent Mohlala said: “I’ve got hope. We can live in peace and harmony. We are all humans. We were all made by God. We need to respect each other and then we won’t mind colour”.
Mr Johannes Mokoo said: “I think we can still live in peace. People should try and understand each other’s point of view on dividing issues”.

of a non-racial South-Africa?
Mr Kenneth Sithole and Mr Blessing Mashilo said: “About 2% of the white and the black populations are racists. We just need to control them. The law helps to make people think twice about what they say. The 98% of us can still change this country to be great for everyone, but it will be difficult”. Links: Me. Drikie Myburgh en Me. Rosa Williams sê: “As ons almal onthou as ons na ons medemens kyk dat ons God se beeld is kan ons uiteindelik almal oor die weg kom”.
Mr Solomon Mafologale said: “It is too divided. People will never fully understand each other. People want jobs and they feel that others are taking it. Money makes a problem. If we all had lots of money we would get along. Government must make a point of creating jobs, then things will be ok”.
Mr Japie Nkiocm said: “People must talk more to understand each other. Every race must take responsibility to teach their own people. If you see a fellow white or black person being racist – stand up against it. We must be one in love. Any differences can be sorted out”.
Right: Ms Maggie Langa and Mr Tebogo Phala said: “We don’t think we can create that. We were born into racism. We can’t change it. We can try to change it for our children, but we don’t know if it will work”.
Mr Herman Rachidi said: “We are closer to the mark than we think to achieve a non-racial, united, non-sexist and prosperous society. All we need is committed individuals, progressive and patriotic citizens who will identify themselves first as South Africans before being black, white or something else. From there we can achieve it”.
Mr Evens Mabeba said: “I like to think there is always hope. People tend to associate when they have something to gain. Unfortunately there are still individuals within cultures who think they are superior to others. If you grow up with an imprint that a specific group is superior to others, it will be difficult to change that perception in your mind. Parents should not imprint racism on children. A non-racial society should start with children”.
Left: Mr T. Muperere said: “If we work together with all our hearts we can get there. Parents must teach their children the right thing. If I teach my children that white people are the enemy they will believe it. The same applies to white people teaching their children. We are the ones who should work hard and we are the ones to blame for any racism”.
Mr Basie Phala and Ms Connie Phala said: “There is still a chance for us. Each and every race should be realistic about their situation, where they come from and where we are going. We should also be realistic about our economy. We should regardless of race work together to build this economy. Working together, respecting each other and forgetting about the past, but rather working for the future is how can can build a non-racial country”.
Left: Mr Tshepiso Sedumedi said: “There is no hope. People will always have their opinion and people like to group themselves. They group according to this race and that race, this tribe and that tribe and therefore racism will never go away”.
