Limpopo is tops for tourism

Platinum

Gazette

The Domestic Tourism Survey 2016 (DTS 2016) (January – December) which was released this week by STATS SA, reaffirmed Limpopo’s position as the most visited tourist destination in the country for a second year in a row. The DTS 2016 findings reflect a general pattern of decline in domestic tourism over the past two years as associated with economic stagnation and re-prioritization of consumer spending that has taken place in the country during that time. Limpopo Tourism said in response to the report that as much as we welcome the news that the province is the most visited tourism destination domestically, the agency is equally worried about the decline in day trips and overnight trips. It also noted that VFR (Visiting Friends and Relatives) remains a common trend and a way of traveling in the country, Nearly 3 out of 4 people who undertook overnight trips opted to stay with friends and relatives rather than pay for accommodation.
