The Department of education in Limpopo says all schools experiencing shortfalls in stationary following delivery that took place until the last week of January 2017 should contact their circuit offices. They are also urged to contact the following TOLLFREE number where they can leave the details and be assisted as soon as possible: 0800 26 52 66. This will make it possible for the Department of Education in Limpopo to quickly close the gaps should they exist. The speedy functioning of this process depends on the quick responses of the schools. The shortfall may be caused by changes in the number of learners registered at the beginning of the year as the initial requests were aligned to the previous numbers in different schools.

Water restrictions to continue countrywide With the recent rains across the country not making enough impact on the drought, water restrictions will continue, says the Department of Water and Sanitation. The department said the national storage of dams have shown a slight increase of 0.8% from 54.2% last week to 55% this week. “At this time last year, the national storage was at 55.4%. This is a clear sign that the recent rains did not make that much of an impact on our dams and the Department of Water and Sanitation would like to caution that the drought is still upon us.” The department last week Wednesday called on water users to adhere to water restrictions imposed by their respective municipalities and continue using water sparingly. Currently provincial levels stand as follows: Eastern Cape – 57.7% Western Cape – 37.9% KwaZulu-Natal – 47% Free State – 56.7% Gauteng – 86.6% Limpopo – 63.7% Mpumalanga – 65.9% North West – 73.2% Northern Cape – 93.7% The Polokwane System measured 48.7% last week and remains at 48.7% this week. The system recorded 58.3% last year during the same period. Seasonal forecasters predict that above-average rainfall can be expected up to March 2017. Locally the De Hoop Dam was 99 percent full, Ohrigstad Dam about 33 percent full, Buffelskloof Dam 100 percent full and Flag Boshielo 45 percent full.

Eish!

Traffic in Burgersfort is still chaotic as this u-turn in the face of oncoming traffic proves. And the traffic cop in the rear-view mirror just let it be, without moving a finger and proceeded (the traffic cop) to transgress the road rules on his part just to get in front of the traffic because he thought he is above the law.

Winning at Magaba

Communication makes the world go round

Mr. Patrick Mokoena was the winner of a R500 meat voucher in the January lucky draw competition at Magaba filling station, Burgersfort. Mr. Carl Lourens of Magaba congratulated him and handed him the voucher that can be redeemed at Cheap Cheap. Carl thanked everyone who participated in the competition and invited the public to participate in the February competition.

Sylvia and Denver ties the knot Sylvia Mphogo married Denver Mushwana on 7 and 8 February 2017. The first celebration took place at Longtill, Steelpoort. The couple then continued their weekend wedding with a celebration at Tzaneen Tarentaal Land on 8 February. The couple is based in the Steelpoort area and thanked everyone who took the time to come and celebrate with them. (Information and photo: Sylviah Mphogo)

Without communication we are cut off from the world. That is what makes speech therapy so important. Carin Fouché, a qualified and registered speech therapist is now assisting patients with a variety of problems when it comes to communication at Fouché Medical Practice in Burgersfort. The role of a speech therapist is often underestimated and people delay in getting the help that could change their lives and that of their children. “Often people think a child will outgrow a problem, but getting help as early as possible can have an influence on the child’s ability to learn, speak and even self-esteem,” says Carin. She is passionate about helping people and to help everyone develop their ability to communicate properly. Visiting a speech therapist can help to identify if there are any other underlying problems causing the slow or incorrect speech development. If you’ve experienced any of the following problems visiting a speech therapist could make a world’s difference: If a child aged between 18 – 24 months is not talking yet. If there were complications during the baby’s birth. If a baby struggles to suck, swallow or chew. If a child has a limited vocabulary. If a child omits words or the order of words in sentences is wrong. If a child has problems with listening or auditory processing. Reading and spelling problems. If a person stutters. If a person’s voice is hoarse or disappears for a long

period of time. If a person had a stroke or brain injury. Teachers, singers and people using their voices often can benefit from learning how to use their voices correctly not to strain the voice. Especially with children the approach by the speech therapist is playful and the child will make progress without even knowing they’ve been doing special communication development exercises. Patients struggling with communication after a stroke or brain injury can in many cases be assisted to improve and regain verbal functionality. Again, the sooner therapy starts the better. Many medical aids do assist with the cost of therapy. To make an appointment with Carin contact her on 082 710 1274.
