So these villagers came to town (Burgersfort) this week, but unlucky for them, their bakkie broke down, leaving them stranded in peak traffic. Fortunately a traffic control vehicle arrived on the scene. Unfortunately the traffic control officer did not have any interest in controlling the traffic. He just smirked and drove past into the sunset towards Bothashoek. The villagers man- or rather (woman)handled their bakkie into a u-turn in front of oncoming traffic, freed down the road and swerved without any indication or brakes into a right-hand turn-off, again straight into the path of about a zillion cars. They luckily missed everything and then they were safe.

Living in the land of no rules driving Psalm 104: 10 - 11 (NIV) 10
Burgersfort is often referred to as the place where traffic rules don’t apply. This vehicle on the right took yellow lane driving to a new level when he decided not to wait his turn to cross into the appropriate lane.
He makes springs pour water into the ravines; it flows between the mountains. 11 They give water to all the beasts of the field; the wild donkeys quench their thirst.
Quick reaction leads to three arrests On Saturday night three suspects, linked to various crimes in the Burgersfort area, robbed a man of his wallet, cell phone, bank card and keys near Tubatse in Steelpoort. The suspects were arrested near the entrance to the Tubatse Chrome Plant outside Steelpoort. An observant Thorburn Security Solutions Special Operations Leader on Saturday night saw how the victim was walking next to the road between the Samancor ECM main entrance and the entrance to the ECM Doornbosch mine in the Steelpoort vicinity. The occupants of a red Hummer vehicle stopped and robbed him where he was next to the road. The Special Operation Leader immediately called for back up from the South African Police Service and other Thorburn reaction units in Steelpoort. Both the SAPS and Thorburn units in Steelpoort reacted quickly. Near the entrance to Tubatse Chrome Plant the suspect vehicle was pulled off by the Thorburn Special Operations Team Leader and the SAPS. The stolen goods were recovered. Three suspects were arrested. The
police confirmed that the red Hummer was involved in several criminal activities in and around Burgersfort. The victim is the son of a mine employee from the Samancor ECM Lannex Mine. The observant Special Operations Leader and presence of various Thorburn mobile units in the Steelpoort area lead to a valuable arrest of wanted suspects in the Burgersfort area as well as a quick reaction for the robbery victim. Above: The recovered items.

The bridge over the Steelpoort River brought his dangerous driving adventure to an end and he finally had to wait his turn and cross over to the lawful driving lane. Irresponsible acts like these add to the danger on the R37 and in town.

Local beauty aiming for Mrs SA crown Zama Ramokgade from Steelpoort was recently announced as one of the semi-finalists for the Mrs. South Africa competition. She and two other women from Limpopo - Refilwe Mogale and Mankoana Nhlebela from Polokwane are part of the top 100 in this year’s competition. The public can help to make these ladies and the province proud by voting for them either through a like on the Mrs South Africa facebook page or through a sms line that will be opened soon. The number will also be available on the facebook page.
The Mrs. South Africa competition is not your typical beauty pageant. It offers married South African women who have real life careers, families and hobbies the chance to compete for the prestigious title of Mrs South Africa. The criteria include glamour, sophistication, being smart, ambitious and being someone who cares about her family and community. Through this competition the unsung superwomen of South Africa are getting a platform. These women are between the ages of 24 and 49 and they are wives, in some cases mothers, some are entrepreneurs, but most are change makers. The 100 semi-finalists will go on to compete at the semi-final weekend on 26 - 28 April. This stage of the competition will take place at Emperor’s Palace. The judges here will include Vusi Zwane (Emperor’s Palace Peermont Hotel corporate affairs and corporate social investment executive), Candice Abrahams (Mrs World 2016) and Unaiza Moideen (business woman in the beauty industry), headed by principal judge, Cindy Nell Roberts (Business Woman and former Miss South Africa). Only 25 women will be
selected to continue on the journey. Zama who is employed at Tubatse Chrome as an Environmental Specialist lives by the mottos “If you can imagine it, you can achieve it” - William Arthur Ford “We regret more the things we did not do than the things we did” – Mark Twain “Whether you think you can or you think you can’t, you are right” – Henry Ford She enjoy being with her friends and family and loves playing board games like chess, monopoly and 30 seconds with them. She is a clever one who skipped grade 6 while in school and went on to be the top student in grade 7. She is currently learning to speak fluent Afrikaans. She enjoys mixing chemicals and solutions and is in the process of creating her own hair care range. She was also a fast learner when it came to cars. She could drive by the time she was 12 years old. “Being an ambassador of Tshilo Mentorship programme, a programme designed to empower young women, I am passionate about the development and empowerment of women. Being Mrs SA pageant contestant will award me an opportunity to network with strong, brave, game - changers like myself. Not only will this unleash new opportunities for me and the courses I represent, I believe it will definitely broaden my horizon, enabling me to add even more value to my current endeavours in empowering young women in our society,” she said. Should she become Mrs SA 2018 she would use the platform to assist in raising funds towards keeping girls in school. Mahatma Gandhi said “Educate a woman, and you
have educated a nation”. This is close to her heart and she would like to not only be involved in fund raising but also self-preservation through improved self-esteem and self-awareness education, possible career guidance and helping to set and achieve goals towards a career as well as sex education to assist in preventing unwanted teenage pregnancies and the spread of sexually transmitted diseases. She would also dedicate time and effort towards Cancer Awareness. To support and vote for Zama and the other two Limpopo beauties, Refilwe and Mankoana, visit http://www.facebook.com/MrsSouthAfrica/

Chevrolet Trailblazer. In our market this seven seater SUV from General Motors South Africa is imported, putting the company into a pricing fix as compared to equally as good locally produced competitors in the same market segment. Mmm. And South Africans get quite emotional about their vehicles and they are very brand loyal. SUV-wise they maybe more brand loyal to other marques than Chevrolet, contributing to the fact that there are far less Trailblazers on our roads than other competitors. And it does not look like a sports car or pack an unique punch that can sway buyers easily. But, and it is a very large but, those in the know are fiercely loyal to their Trailblazers because it is a fantastic vehicle. To our minds, after we had driven the semi budget version (2.5 LT 4x2 AT yours for R489 100), these loyal owners are right and the vehicle is, as overall build quality, drivetrain and dynamics go, on par or ahead of the pack in some respects. The example we took to Eerstegeluk on the gravel road from Westvaal Steelpoort, did not have traction control (we hear that it will be fitted to this particular model in future), but even without it, the vehicle was sturdy as a rock, even in the face of cattle and reckless other drivers which necessitated a few quick moves on the loose surface to keep safe. Several moose (or elk or cattle) tests were easily passed. This diesel engine has a variable geometry turbocharger contributing to a relaxed drive without any nervousness, but with enough grunt when you need it. The new fascia of the Trailblazer is something to love as it is devoid of any unnecessary knobs, lights and sounds and too much chrome. Combined with the excellent seats and black leather of the interior it spells nice, nice, nice. Everything in this car just works, and works well, and there is almost no irritation. On tar the vehicle is easily as adept as on the dirt road and when all the back seats are down, there are loads of space. Admittedly, the luggage space suffers quite a lot when al seven seats are in use, but then, on the other hand, the third row of two seats are more than generous and can actually carry adults comfortably. For the rest there is not much to say, except that it has all the bells and whistles you need with regards to safety and comfort, reliability and performance. We could not think of one reason not to buy the vehicle rather than a competitor, especially with a 5 years 90 000 km service plan and 5 years 120 000 km warranty and roadside assistance thrown into the hat ...
