Serving others on Women’s Day While South Africa celebrated Women’s Day as a public holiday, a group of local volunteers spend the day doing public service. They visited Kgakanyane Orphanage in Ga-Manoke near Burgersfort. Here Ms Antoinette Mgiba (photo left) takes care of 15 children. The children are placed with her by the local SAPS and social workers. Some are orphans and some were taken away from dire circumstances. There are six boys and nine girls. The group occupies two neighbouring houses and the volunteers came to help clean and assist with creating an office space in a building that was used for storage. They also brought along donated groceries and put up a jumping castle for the kids to enjoy while the cleaning was going on. The day ended with a braai and some planning for the future as Mama Antoinette, as she is affectionately know, need more help.

Anyone who would like to become involved with donations of groceries, clothing, blankets, cleaning products, school necessities, office furniture and even recreational items are welcome to get involved. Currently some of the boys use a steel pole with bricks on the sides as gym lifting equipment and donations of old gym or home gym equipment will make it much easier for them to exercise at home. The volunteers would like to thank Lefatlotlo Construction, Namudi Mining and Investments, Raripane Investments, Thaleba Promotions, Thendo Selete, Mphela Mokwena Holdings, Thabitha Modipadi Enterprise, Siyamudumisa Trading as lets cater for you and Linda Wa Magkgati Trading for making the day possible.
