How Tubatse / Fetakgomo voted

Platinum Gazette editorial comment:

All parties lost

O

n this page a map with how voters in the new Tubatse/ Fetakgomo Local Municipality voted appears together with statistics of how the voting actually went. It appears that apart from pockets of opposition in different colours on the IEC’s map, the ANC still has a definite mandate to govern on local level in the area with a new official opposition, the EFF, quickly on the rise in the area. The fact is, only 50,02 percent of registered voters in the municipality voted, or 99547 out of 198678 registered voters. Only 2,03 percent of ballot papers were spoilt. That means, half of the population registered to vote, did not bother and exercised their right not to vote. For various reasons such as unplanned road trips, visits to family and friends, chicken and wors braais and, the scary one, because they lost all hope in the system. A large number decided they did not trust the system, that all the political parties did not offer real hope for the future and that those who will remain in power as well as those who try and gain a foothold, are all the same with no real differences in workable policies and only personal prosperity as a goal. An important factor to take into account for all councillors who will take their seats in the new council in the next few weeks. Half of the people who could have voted, did not vote for you. The fact that they did not vote, does not mean that they have forefeited all their rights and their hopes for the future. They are waiting for you to see where you are going to make a difference and if they can maybe vote for you in five years’ time. Think about it. It may not be as easy as it looks.

12 AUGUSTUS 2016 Isaiah 65:21-22 New International Version (NIV) 21 They will build houses and dwell in them; they will plant vineyards and eat their fruit. 22 No longer will they build houses and others live in them, or plant and others eat. For as the days of a tree, so will be the days of my people; my chosen ones will long enjoy the work of their hands.
