Gazette They did not burn, they talked The community of Kutullo, especially those in Matepe Section next to the speedhumps in the vicinity of Kubu Tavern along the R555 near De Hoop Dam was on the verge of giving up. And to start burning. They were not happy, because they felt their pleas for water and electricity fell on deaf ears. Mr Evans Mabowa, a local entrepreneur told the newspaper a week or so ago, “The government do not hear our plight. The ward councillor does not attend our meetings, and the two Kgosis (chiefs) responsibile for this area never come here. They live across the river. We share a small fountain with the animals for washing and drinking. There is no water in the pipes installed by government and the electricity is not connected. The cables hang loose. Last week the government called on communities not to burn, but to talk. This week on Tuesday, the executive mayor of Sekhukhune District, Cllr Keamotseng Stanley Ramaila and a delegation, visited Kutullo after talking to the traditional leadership in the area, as well as community representatives (The newspaper got this news from Facebook). Minutes of the meeting were not available at the time of going to press.

Groblersdal - The executive mayor of Sekhukhune District Municipality, Cllr Keamotseng Stanley Ramaila; Chief Whip Cllr Tseke Lepota, all members of the mayoral committee, and senior managers welcomed the new municipal manager Ms Norah Maseko, on 5 May. Ms Maseko is an expert in local government who has served in the local government sphere in various capacities since 1998. She started in her new position on 1 May and will serve a five year contract. Born in South Africa in the early 60s, Ms Maseko is well qualified with academic qualifications ranging from a Certificate in Management and Development for Municipal Finance from the University of Witwatersrand to Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Swaziland. Ms. Maseko’s professional career boasts a variety achievements in the field of government finance and excellence in administration. This is evident from her work experience that includes: Government Technical Advisory Centre (GTAC) Treasury Technical Advisor at Mahikeng and Thabazimbi Local Municipalities, Assistant Administrator Acting Chief Financial Officer, Emalahleni Local Municipality, Chief Financial Officer, Mbombela Local Municipality, April 2008 – 31 March 2013, Acting Municipal Manager; Mbombela Local Municipality, December 2009 – November 2011, Deputy Chief Financial Officer, Mbombela Local Municipality, May 2007 – April 2008; to name but a few. Coming from a financial background after holding management position at Standard Bank of SA in her early days, Ms. Norah Maseko has been warmly welcomed to Sekhukhune District Municipality, which according to Executive Mayor Cllr Keamotseng Stanley Ramaila, is a unique environment compared to the mostly urban municipalities where Ms Maseko worked before. “We are a Water Service Authority with 15 water treatment works. 8 are operated by us as the SDM and 7 are operated by the Lepelle Northern Water. We are a rural municipality with a population of 1,1million people, 75 Traditional Leaders, 983 employees, with a critical shortage of a Chief Financial Officer, a position which could not attract a sustable candidate since 2015. As the new Municipal Manager, you will be expected to advise this leadership collective on matters of compliance with the law when decisions are made. We got into Council following the 3 August Local Government elections and found that our predecessors has laid a solid foundation of 3 Unqualified Audit Opinions and we dare not to regress, but improve towards Clean Audit Outcome”.

New MM for Sekhukhune

I have had something on my mind for some time and although I prefer to be positive about everything in this case I struggle to stay positive. The age old story of traffic police in Burgersfort town is the subject. I ask myself why do we everyday see many traffic officers along the R37 just out of town, next to the traffic lights at the Tubatse Mall and next to the 4 way stops near Aloe Ridge but we never see them in the center of town where all the chaos is? The question is, are they there because it is “easy pickings” outside town and that they can lounge around next to the road with relative calm and stop cars at their own pace. Or are they frightened to do some hard work and sort out the issues in town? Yes, we have points men and women in town who are doing their best but, where are the traffic officers stopping the culprits who blatantly transgress the road rules by performing U turns, blocking the road, driving against the traffic flow etc. etc (which we see every day)? Whilst I am talking about the Points men and women… Why do they not wear some sort of uniform so they are identifiable? They wear (half on and half off) reflective vests that could be in better condition and don’t even wear white gloves to aid visibility. I could go on for a long time on this subject but need to keep this short and I am sure you know exactly what I am talking about. Kindest regards Alan Peers

Psalm 113:3 - 9 NIV 3 From the rising of the sun to the place where it sets, the name of the LORD is to be praised. 4 The LORD is exalted over all the nations, his glory above the heavens. 5 Who is like the LORD our God, the One who sits enthroned on high, 6 who stoops down to look on the heavens and the earth? 7 He raises the poor from the dust and lifts the needy from the ash heap; 8 he seats them with princes, with the princes of his people. 9 He settles the childless woman in her home as a happy mother of children. Praise the LORD.
