Public Works Minister, Nkosinathi Nhleko says Government’s infrastructure delivery programme is on track to extend services to communities, create much needed jobs for the unemployed while also addressing social challenges. Mr Nhleko made this statement when visiting three projects by the Limpopo Department of Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure Projects last week Thursday. “Though there were some delays in the delivery programme when the provincial government was placed under administration, we are satisfied that pockets of excellence are emerging and efforts are being made to heighten the pace of delivery,” highlighted Minister Nhleko after visiting the Seshego Treatment Centre project accompanied by Public Works MEC’s, Heads of Departments, Chairpersons and CEO’s of entities on the first day of the MINMEC programme. The R16 million new substance abuse treatment facility to accommodate and treat 60 people was initiated by the Department of Social Development in response to the scourge of substance abuse currently gripping the province and the country. The facility alleviates the need for a substance abuse treatment centre because the province relied on other provinces since it didn’t have its own.

‘Our youth must study’ - Minister of Public Works Public Works Minister, Nkosinathi Nhleko has encouraged youth to pursue studies in specialised fields of architecture, town planning, engineering, quantity surveying, property and facilities speciality, property economics and strategic thinking in the built environment. Minister Nhleko pointed these out as scarce skills needed to grow the economy while addressing an engagement with youth and emerging contractors at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on the sideline of the two-day MinMEC meeting that ended last week Friday. “While we talk of radical economic transformation, as youth, you are the roots to this radical approach in construction, property and facilities management and asset management,” the Minister told the packed hall at the event organised by the African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) in Limpopo. Nhleko said that in spite of business cycle upswings, dating as far back as 1978-81, 1983-84, 1986-89, 1993-96 and 2003-2007, unemployment has been soaring. He acknowledged that the majority of the country’s unemployed are youth from historically disadvantaged communities, some with qualifications, others are semi-skilled while the majority of them are unskilled. “The high levels of unemployment are not only costly to the individuals and families but also to local as well as regional economies and the economy in general. Unemployment brings along high levels poverty and with the historical structure of our economy we still live in very highly unequal societies,” he stressed. Nhleko highlighted that South Africa is a youthful country, hence it is imperative for young people to fully participate and play their roles to ensure that the successful drive toward achieving radical economic transformation (RET). He said that the initiative requires open minded members of our society particularly youth, who take future seriously and embrace the concept of RET and realized the consequences of this phase of our democracy. “Political freedom alone is meaningless if economic freedom is not achieved,” he underscored. Nhleko maintained that skills development and mentoring in the built environment will be required to assist government and the country in innovative and cost effective ways to make South Africa a better place.

Your views on President Jacob President Jacob Zuma on Tuesday announced a cabinet reshuffle. This was the second cabinet reshuffle in a few months with the last being dubbed the “night of the long knives” after a controversial midnight reshuffle in March. The changes will see Blade Nzimande being replaced by Hlengwe Mkhize. Nzimande was not given another cabinet position and was the only one to be fired from cabinet this time around. Mkhize will now be the Minister of Higher Education and Training. Ayando Dlodlo will be the new Minister of Home Affairs. She will fill the gap left by Mkhize. The new Minister of State Security will be Bongani Bongo. His elevation came as one of the biggest surprises of the reshuffle. Bongo has been longterm defender of Zuma in parliamentary debates and he’s served on various committees in the National Assembly. David Mahlobo replaces Mmamoloko Kubayi as Energy Minister. Kubayi will be the Communications Minister. Buti Manamela will move from the Presidency to become deputy Higher Education and Training Minister. The move to place Mahlobo as the new Minister of Energy sparked speculation about President Jacob Zuma’s plans to build a number of nuclear power stations. Despite speculation that Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma may get a cabinet position, she remains an ordinary MP. President Zuma thanked the former members of the National Executive for their good service in previous portfolios and wished those assuming new portfolios well. Platinum Gazette asked readers what they think about the latest reshuffle.
Mr Joseph Leboto said: “I am too scared by this. Every time Mr Zuma changes things we pay more for petrol and other things. It is all just political play in his favour”.
Mr Shone Moraba said: “It is bad. He is trying to destroy our country. I don’t agree with cabinet changes President Zuma made”.
Ms Jeanette Mphofu, Ms Dorris Madihlaba and Ms Pebetse Mathotho said: “It is bad to change so much. People need to learn and prove themselves. Zuma is chasing everyone who intimidates him. Zuma should learn to take the positive out of criticism. Positive criticism can build you and you need to learn to read between the lines of what people tell you. Distinguish what is good and what is bad criticism and take the good to improve yourself”.
Links: Me.
Mr Enos Makwana said: “To keep changing the cabinet won’t bring back the image of this country. This man is digging his own grave. Those people who are being chopped or changed in the shuffle might be the ones with evidence of his corruption. But there will always be honest enough people to testify against him. He is changing people who are resisting his plans. Time will come and time will tell, just as his time will come”. Right: Ms Velma Kgwete said: “He should not have changed the cabinet now. He is afraid and that is why he makes changes”.
Mnr.

Zuma’s latest cabinet reshuffle
Ms Shoki Maepa said: “President Zuma is gathering his own army around him to get his way. If you get in his way, he gets rid of you”. With her is Khutso.
Me. Nicolene Buitendag en Me. Erika Kruger sê: “Terwyl hy nog in power is probeer hy reshuffle om alles in sy guns te laat werk want hy weet sy tyd is min. Hy is besig om sy brood gebotter te kry”. By hulle is Caitlin. Links: Mnr. Daniël Kgotle sê: “Zuma is nie reg nie. Dis oor hy sien hy gaan dalk tronk toe. Hy wil nou iets bewys en hy wil ontslae raak van mense wat nie saam met hom praat nie”.
Ms. Maria Nemaitoni said: “They wanted to get rid of Blade Nzimande. The rest of the changes is just a smoke screen for getting rid of him. Hlengwe Mkhize as the new Minister of Higher Education and Training may be the only good change”. Right: Mr Patrick Masemola said: “It is not right to change the cabinet so much. It looks like if people speak out and not fully support Zuma, he changes the cabinet. It is not good”.
Left: Mr Walter Choma said: “I don’t agree with it at all. Zuma do as he wishes and it is time for him to step down. I don’t like his style of governing this country. 2019 must come fast so that the EFF can take the lead”.
Mr Papie Makgate and Mr Donald Kgoete said: “It is a waste of time to change the cabinet. He should just step down. Changes will not help. The damage has been done. We can still respect him if he just steps down. He will then do what is best for the country”. Right: Ms Sabina Mpinga said: “Zuma, Zuma. I hate politics because of him. He should stop changing the cabinet and just step down. It is time to step down”.
Right: Ms. Doreen Mabowa said: “Maybe he wants to make government look good. He is getting rid of people who knows too much and can make him look bad in the future”.
Right: Mr K.S. Makofane said: “He changes too much. He should not change the cabinet so much before the ANC elective conference. He is afraid and now he is putting his ‘tjommies’ there”.

LIMA presents workshop for local athletics clubs Limpopo Athletics (LIMA) is working hard to empower local clubs with the skills to participate according to the prescribed rules, while creating a thriving environment for the sport. Two weeks ago representatives from registered athletics clubs and stakeholders such as the Fetakgomo Greater Tubatse Municipality, gathered at Thaba Moshate Casino, Resort and Convention Centre for a workshop. The group received training and guidance and each club received a rule book
with all the regulations governing the clubs/athletes within the sport. People often assume they can simply organise a ‘fun walk or run’ but in reality this needs to be cleared and done in conjunction with LIMA. These and other issues relating to the clubs and athletes were discussed. Clubs that might have missed out or people who would like to register an athletics club can contact the LIMA Secretary on 081 341 1107. (Photograph and information: Limpop Athletics).
