Limpopo hosts Provincial Heritage Day Celebration 2018 The Limpopo Provincial Government will join the rest of the country in celebrating the 2018 Heritage Day. In line with government’s programme to celebrate the centenary year of Tata Nelson Mandela and Mama Albertina Sisulu, Heritage Month 2018 will be commemorated under the theme “The Year of Nelson Rholihlahla Mandela: Advancing Transformation of South Africa’s Heritage Landscape”. The celebrations over Heritage Month will consist of the active participation of museums, galleries, libraries, archives, community art centres to highlight the importance of transformation of the heritage landscape. The people of Limpopo are encouraged to visit these institutions to contribute to their sustainability and relevance in addressing societal challenges. Citizens are further encouraged to participate in community dialogues which will be held at those heritage institutions. In Limpopo, government will celebrate the cultural wealth of the province by showcasing cultural diversity. The 2018 Heritage day celebration will be held as follows;: Date : 24 September 2018 Venue : Tjate Heritage Site, Fetakgomo - Tubatse Municipality, Sekhukhune District Time : 09:00

The South African Municipal Workers Union branch in Burgersfort at the Fetakgomo Tubatse Local Municpality has sounded war drums and gave notice that they will go on a full-blown strike on Friday 21 September 2018. Earlier this week the union’s local executive held a press conference, stating their grievances. According to documents made available to the media, and the verbal presentation at the press conference, the amalgamation between erstwhile Greater Tubatse Local Municipality and Fetakgomo Local Municipality did not go that well, but resulted rather in a ‘mess’ according to the union. “The new Fetakgomo Greater Tubatse Municipality was re-graded upwards from a Grade 3 municipality to a Grade 5 municipality because it is now bigger with more responsibilities. But ordinary personnel’s re-grading did not take place as expected, agreements were not kept and the question of parity between the personnel of the former split entities had not been addressed. The result is that uniting the two municipalities did not take place according to the rules and that the placement and grading of personnel did not go according to plan. We also hear stories of a burnt server from Fetakgomo with personnel files and no organogram to speak of when they were integrated. We were also told we were over-paid in Tubatse and cannot expect more money. Meanwhile a few fat cats only looked after themselves, and yes, there is no money because of the whole Venda Building Society Mutual Bank debacle. We want clarity on the issue now and we call for provincial intervention in the matter”. Platinum Gazette has forwarded the grievances of the local branch of SAMWU to the municipality for comment before going to press. Such comment will be published as soon it is received. In the mean time, if service is sluggish or non-existent - you know where it comes from.

Juffrou O’Dilhea se New Credit passie laat haar uitblink Amendment Bill “Vandat ek kan onthou wou ek graag ‘n ‘Juffrou’ wees. Hierdie is my lewe, my passie,” vertel O’Dilhea Keulder.

My man, Werner is ‘n steunpilaar en Mnr.

to provide relief for consumers The National Assembly on Wednesday adopted the long-awaited National Credit Amendment Bill, which aims to address and prevent over-indebtedness of consumers. “The bill provides relief for over-indebted consumers earning less than R7 500 with unsecured debt of not more than R50 000. It will directly address the plight of the poor and low-income workers who are over-indebted. It also intends to encourage and enforce responsible lending and borrowing,” said acting Trade and Industry Minister Lindiwe Zulu. The bill was debated and adopted in the National Assembly after it was adopted by the Portfolio Committee on Trade and Industry last week Friday. The bill will improve the collection of bad debt amongst over-indebted low income consumers by credit providers. In South Africa, approximately R879 million of bad debt is collected by credit providers through debt counselling on a monthly basis. Approximately 38% of 25 million credit active consumers have impaired credit records. During the second reading debate on the bill, Zulu clarified that the bill is an amendment to the National Credit Act of 2005, which came into effect in 2007 with the aim to address and prevent over-indebtedness of consumers and ensure an accessible, consistent, responsible and equitable credit market. Zulu said the bill introduces a new effective and accessible debt counselling and personal insolvency framework for over-indebted low-income consumers. The bill provides a balance that addresses the needs of consumers and promotes responsible borrowing by credit providers. It also tackles concerns raised by some credit providers and distinguishes between secured and unsecured credit in accordance with the Task Team Agreements entered into in 2010. The agreements were entered into by the National Credit Regulator and credit providers to limit the reduction for interest on unsecured debt. “Taking the repo rate into account ensures that banks will not be unfairly prejudiced by a reduction. This will form part of the regulations,” said Zulu.

Office of the Chief Whip announces changes of Chairpersons of Portfolio Committees

The Limpopo Legislature has adopted a Motion for the Reconstitution of Committees and Members, as presented by the Chief Whip, Falaza Mdaka. The following changes and adjustments were made in various Portfolio Committees: Tolly Mashamaite, the ANC’s latest addition to the House, is the new Chairperson of the Committee on Ethics and Members Interests. Maite Marutha is now the Chairperson of the Committee on Petitions and Public Participation. Dickson Masemola, (previously with Transport, Safety, Security and Liaison) replaces Soviet Lekganyane ( ANC Limpopo Provincial Secretary), as the new Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on The Provincial Treasury. Gilbert Kganyago, who replaced Elias Nong to the Legislature, becomes the new Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Education – a position previously held by Sentle Fenyane. Meriam Ramadwa becomes the new Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Transport, Safety, Security and Liaison. These adjustments were necessitated by changes and resignations in the Provincial Legislature, and the need to continuously strengthen the Legislature’s Oversight Role. The Office of the Chief Whip congratulates these members in their new deployments, and wishes them well with their responsibilities.
