Ready, steady, ... no go - page 7
On Monday 2016-07-18 the Burgesrfort Regional Court handed a hefty sentence to a Zimbabwean citizen, Munezi Sunboy Christian (32) the following crimes committed on 23 December 2015: Contravening section 80(1) (a) of the Customs and Excise Act no 91/1964 for R100 000 or 05 years imprisonment. Hawker stalls’ handover stalled The Hawker Stalls in Praktiseer en Burgersfort was due to be handed over last week Thursday and Friday as part of Mandela Month activities within the municipality. Thursday’s event was postponed and on Friday a fight broke out between members of the Greater Tubatse Hawkers Association and Mr Jackson Tjatji while they waited for
the municipality to arrive for the handover. This left the event tent put up for the occasion without occupants and councillors scrambling to try and resolve the issues. Mr Tjatji said that the stalls are not finished and the hawkers should not accept a handover of an incomplete project. “How will they ever get it finished if they take it like this
now? The municipality chowed the money and now they want to handover an incomplete project” he said. Some hawkers were however of the opinion that there is enough space in the completed section and that after engagement with the municipality they are assured that the project will be finished in due course. They wanted a handover so that each hawker can take responsibility for his stall and legally do business there. The handover event was postponed and the Greater Tubatse Municipality will now engage with all the relevant stakeholders to try and resolve the problems.
Above: Happy to just do business.

SAPS warns about drugs at revival celebration On the evening of Thursday 14 July 2016, the Tubatse SAPS attended a revival program at God in action Baptist Church under Paster Serokolo. The evening was attended by Lt col Malatji, Warrant officer Supe, Sergeant Mosoma, Const Letsoalo N.M and Data Typist Supe. The station commander Lt col Malatji
addressed the community about drug abuse and different types of drugs. She mentioned that different drugs can cause different feelings and physical responses to your body. Drugs such as dagga, heroin, Ecstasy, Mandrax, tik and cocaine are illegal. She warned that users may experience a very pleasant response to one drug,
yet another drug could have a very frightening reaction and it could even kill you. The drug you are offered tomorrow may look the same as the drug you were offered yesterday, but you can never be certain of what it contains. The only way to be sure that you do not ingest it is to avoid taking drugs in the first place! Drugs can be swallowed (pills), smoked, inhaled or injected. You can never anticipate the effect that drugs will have on you. It is a mistake to think that experience increases your tolerance levels or that nothing will happen to you if you take a drug that you have used before. It is a well-known fact that seasoned drug addicts often die of an overdose. Drug addiction seduces you into wanting more and different and stronger drugs, against your will and the natural tolerance of your body. No matter how good you may feel when using drugs, your body suffers. Drugs are dangerous. If you take drugs, you are at great risk of becoming addicted. (Information and photographs: Const. Teachers received some Mind Moves Training during a special workshop hosted at the Maelebe Resource Centre last week. The Resource Centre was constructed with the help of Kohin at Maelebe Primary School. Unfortunately the school lost their youth coach recently due to insufficient sponsorship. This left the resource centre a bit under utilised, but the workshop last week put it back into action. The teachers were trained in a variety of aspects that will assist them to teach their children to study more efficiently and make school much more pleasant for them and the learners. The group appreciated
the opportunity to attend the workshop which was organised by Kohin. The day was sponsored by Chesa Nyama Steelpoort and everyone thanked them.Similar workshops are planned for other schools in the area with the assistance of ECM who value education and the impact capable and well trained teachers can make in local schools. The tournament was aimed at improving sportsmanship and encouraging all participants to live a healthy lifestyle through participation in daily sports activities.
