Matthew 28 : 2 – 6 (NIV) 2 There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it. 3 His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow. 4 The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men. 5 The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. 6 He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay.

The past long weekend 95 drivers were arrested for drunken driving. 71 minibuses were confiscated and charged for overloading. Drought relief for farmers Over the last few weeks many areas received ample rain. This is however not a quick fix for the drought conditions farmers experienced this season. The Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries says just over 42 000 farmers have been assisted with drought relief measures in areas that were impacted by water shortages.

Maphaka Tau, the Deputy Director General of Forestry and Natural Resources Management at the department, said this when he briefed the joint Portfolio Committee on Water and Sanitation, Environmental Affairs, Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries and Human Settlements at the Good Hope Chamber in Parliament, on Wednesday (16

Where is the money? A project to create proper hawker stalls in Burgersfort and Praktiseer has been dragging on for almost a year and a half. Some stalls had been completed and hawkers who registered with the municipality has moved into some of the stalls. These entrepreneurs are happy to finally have a ‘roof over their heads’ in busi-

ness, but is also disappointed as it seems that the project will not be completed any time soon. According to various of these businessmen they were told that there is no money to complete the project. They will for the moment just have to live with what is there and be thankful for what was completed.

March 2016). He added that about 186 000 livestock died due to the drought. Just more than 14 000 Limpopo farmers were affected. Of the 246 631 small, medium and large scale farmers that have been affected by the drought, 153 000 come from KwaZulu-Natal, followed by the Eastern Cape (39 888), North West (19 430), Limpopo (14 128), Mpumalanga (10 670), Free State (6 164), Northern Cape (1 851) and Gauteng (1 500). The briefing comes after government’s announcement of a R1

billion (one thousand million rand) package that has been set aside to assist with drought relief efforts.

Sewerage problems Residents in various areas of Burgersfort has been complaining of sewerage running down the streets and even towards the Spekboom river. In Aloe Ridge East a contractor attempted to curb the overflow of sewerage from a manhole next to the road this week. Other problem areas which as been reported various times include the area opposite the Burgersfort SAPS and the road towards the landfill site. Both have raw sewerage leaking into the river.

Choose to give where it matters “Our community will never survive the demon of violence which has currently become a norm. Our business community do little to help people who are doing community development. Instead they give much help to the people who are notorious for their violent actions in the community. The formally registered community based organisations struggle to secure any help from the local companies - even when they make some requests well in advance. Sadly the groups which use violence as their mode of operation can get help anytime they want it. We were very disappointed when the youth of Mampuru Marathon Club failed to make it to Longtom Marathon event on the 19th of March 2016. They knocked on every door seeking for help, but to no avail. The same companies which failed them are the

ones who helped the so-called community representatives when they made Steelpoort ungovernable with their violence not so long ago”. Concerned Ga-Mampuru

Platinum Gazette reported on the launch of the Ga Mampuru Marathon Club at the beginning of October last year. Photographs here are from that report.
