Chamber’s new identity signals a new beginning Johannesburg, 23 May 2018 - At the 128th Annual General Meeting of the Chamber of Mines of South Africa, the organisation’s president, Mxolisi Mgojo announced that the organisation would henceforth be known as the Minerals Council South Africa. At the same time, the new Minerals Council revealed its corporate identity, which draws on the elements of the logo, and which displays a proudly South African heritage and future. Since it was first formalised 1889, the organisation has undergone a number of name changes in its history which have always coincided with mining and political developments in South Africa. The Minerals Council represents more than 70 large, medium-sized and small and emerging miners, as well as three associations that collectively represent more than 200 additional entities. Minerals Council members make up around 90% of South Africa’s mineral production by value.

Sekhukhune District budget in a nutshell Executive district mayor, Cllr Keamotseng Stanley Ramaila last week Friday delivered the Sekhukhune District Municipality’s budget framework for 2018/2019 to 2020-2021 at the Matlala ‘a Lehwelere traditional authority at a special council meeting. In brief the Mayor said the budget should be understood within the context of limited resources at the government’s disposal juxtaposed with the growing community’s social and economic needs. Budget breakdown Medium Term Revenue and Expenditure Framework (MTREF) for 2018/2019, 2019/2020 and 2020/2021 financial years is as follows: The total operating budget is nine hundred and fifty eight million (R958,3 million), which increases to one coma one billion (R1,1 billion) in 2020/2021. And the total capital budget for 2018/2019 is six hundred and fifty one comma six million (R651,6 million), which will decrease to six hundred and seven comma five million (R607,5 million) in the 2020-2021 financial year. The total budget for 2018/2019 financial year is one comma six thousand million (R1,6 thousand million). Operating revenue stands at Nine hundred and fifty eight comma three million (R958,3 million) and it will increase to one thousand million (R1 thousand million) in 2019/20 financial year and further increase to one comma one thousand million (R1,1 thousand million) in 2020/21. That is an increase of 8% from the 2017/2018 adjusted budget and is due to an increase in tariffs by 30% to recover the incurred input costs. Capital revenue stands at six hundred and fifty one comma six million (R651,6 million) and it will increase to six hundred and eighty one comma three million (R681,3 million) in 2019/20 and decrease to six hundred and seven comma five (R607,5 million) in 2020/21 financial year due to decrease in the RBIG funding. From the MIG funding of three hundred and forty one comma six million (R341,6 million), water projects and sanitation projects have been allocated funds in the 2018/19 financial year accordingly. The municipality has budgeted to fund capital projects to the value of seventeen comma nine million (R17,9 million) in 2018/19 financial year from its own revenue and increases to eighteen comma four million (R18,4 million) in the 2010/21 financial year. These own funded projects include: • the funding for the procurement of four water tankers • Computers • EMS equipment • Security fence • IWS plans just to mention a few. • Employee costs have been curbed at 7% pending the finalization of the wage nego tiations. The employee costs percentage to the operating budget is maintained at l ess than the 40% as required by the National Treasury.

Make-over for some Ohrigstad streets Ohrigstad is currently in the process of receiving a make-over of some of their streets. The tar was previously littered with potholes and hopefully, once the new layers of tar cover the now dusty groundwork, it will last and not form holes again.

Title deed for Roka Lebea Tribe The Minister of Rural Development and Land Reform, Ms Maite Nkoana-Mashabane handed over the title deed for the land of the Roka Lebea Tribe in Ga-Seroka village near Jane Furse in the Sekhukhune district municipality on 18 May 2018. “We are today for the first time in the history of our democracy, 24 years later officiating a ceremony to hand over title deeds to a tribal authority whose land was not taken away but who were denied title to the land, due to past laws and racially discriminatory policies, the minister stated. The Department is committed to developing the 50 hectares of the Roka Lebea land for agricultural purposes. Besides the agricultural project, the department will refurbish the ablution facilities for the learners attending the local high school and refurbish all the five community boreholes. The claim was lodged of behalf of community by Ms. Seroka Tlakale Monica on the 23rd of November 1998 with the Commission on Restitution of Land Rights consisting of 387 households. The land under claim is the farm Dingaanskop 543 KS, situated in Fetakgomo Local Municipality in Sekhukhune District of Limpopo Province. The land is currently used for residential and farming purposes by the Roka Lebea Tribe. Roka Lebea Tribe occupied the farm Dingaanskop 543 KS since 1800 to date. The Tribe was never physical removed from the claimed property. They are still enjoying their occupational and customary rights on the land. The claimants have the informal unregistered rights on the land due to the fact that section 11 of the Native Trust and Land Act of 1936 (Act No.18 of 1936) forbade any ownership or

land purchase by Natives. The farm Dingaanskop 543 KS was a State owned property held in trust by the Government of Lebowa. The property was later vested nationally by the Department of Rural Development and Land Reform. The Department of Rural Development and Land Reform released the property through its Restitution Program.
