Special Ops: Cake! Last Sunday was a big day in Burgersfort and environs when the ANC celebrated the party’s 105 year history, with a visit of the President et al. Lots of busses for all the partygoers and, now what is a party without a cake? Ten soldiers pitched at Tubatse Crossing Mall with a bakkie to fetch and safeguard said birthday cake, making it the safest cake in the country. In the photograph they obey the ‘Shoulder Cake!’ command. Lekker.
Praktiseer water remains an issue This story is short, but not sweet. The people of Praktiseer is struggling without water. A project to provide them with water had been started a long time ago. This project runs in four phases. Two of the phases, that are Phase Two and Phase Three, are completed (the reticulation from new uncompleted reservoirs). Phase One (the two reservoirs) are not completed yet, making the project run 18 months behind schedule. Phase Four is the refurbishment of old pipes, and will only be completed at a later stage. The first contractor went bankrupt. The Government (Sekhukhune District Municipality) terminated the contract of the second contractor for not performing as per the agreement. Sekhukhune District Mayor, Cllr Stanley Keyamotseng Ramaila, on Tuesday traded his suit for more comfortable clothes an led his entourage on foot up the mountains in Praktiseer for an inspection in loco of the uncompleted reservoirs. He was not happy, telling the media the District Government is awaiting the outcome of litigation before the project can proceed. The contractor complained at the courts that the correct procedure had not been followed when the government fired them for not performing. The government says otherwise and was positive that they were set for an imminent win in the courts. If so, the project will hopefully proceed and could be completed within four months.

The previous one was just on the opposite side of Ohrigstad on the line from Lydenburg. This happened in December.

Drive responsibly The R36 is under rehabilitation. This means waiting areas and more waiting areas. If you plan to go towards Phalaborwa on this route, make sure you leave enough travel time to include these waiting areas. There are currently two waiting areas between Ohrigstad and the Strydom Tunnel. Waiting times vary depending on how fast heavy vehicles like trucks move up the pass. The estimated waiting time is 10 minutes. Motorists are requested to also not take chances to overtake on these one-line stretches. Impatient drivers try to skip other vehicles and push in at the front of the waiting area line. (See photograph to the left) These photographs were taken on Wednesday this week.

Colossians 3:23-24 NIV Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.

Get licensed Athletes participating in road races and fun runs should remember to get their Athletics South Africa (ASA) Permanent Licenses from their respective clubs. ASA has delivered the first batch of permanent and temporary licenses to the offices of provincial members. Licenses should be issued to athletes, officials and office bearers. This means that an Office Bearer can only serve on a provincial or national structure if the relevant Office Bearer has obtained a Permanent License from a domicile club in the province. ASA says: “It must also be kept in mind that Athletes, Officials and Office Bearers must first complete and sign the application form to obtain the Permanent License, as the application form also serve as an indemnity form, protecting the club, the province and ultimatly ASA. Please note that in the event of any legal action related to athletes, officials and office bearers, the club must be able to present such signed registration form. Failure to produce such signed registration form, the relevant club where the individual is registered too, will be held liable. The ASA office is currently inundated with calls from individuals whom want to register with ASA to obtain a 2017 ASA Permanent License”. These individuals are all referred back to their domicile province or club. Some ASA members has requested an extension on the date that the 2017 ASA licenses will become effective. “With reference to 2017 ASA Circular 4, the expiring date of 2016 ASA licenses will be on 17 February 2017, in other words; as from 18 February 2017, the only license that will ensure eligibility to the athletes, officials and office bearers will be the 2017 ASA License”.
