What is probably the most crowded annual event in downtown Burgersfort, coincided with the unexpected and unannounced closing of roads for tarring at the entrance to the new municipal building. The result? You gueseed right, chaos in the extreme. Read more about the bakkie draw on p 2 and and see what our readers say about the traffic on pages 10 and 11.

Thousands at bakkie draw Thousands of hopeful entrants gathered outside Factory Shop on Saturday last week for the anual ‘Win a bakkie’ draw. The first arrivals came just after six the morning to ensure they are in the front. During the course of the morning free goodies were given away, the crowd was entertained by Thobela FM and Thebe. In the more than thirty degrees heat, some of the

crowd took refuge in the trees. This also gave them a good view of the proceedings. More than 42 000 entries were received in the competition. This was administrated by Loyalty Marketing. By midday 20 entrants were called out and eventually four walked away with a R1000 each. One of them, Mr John Kabekwa from Moroke won the bakkie. Kabekwa is just starting his own business after losing his job. He plans to use the bakkie for fruit and vegetable transport. The Omar family,

Three appear for murder

Nkwe still not trading

Police at Leboeng have arrested three suspects at Ga-Nkoana village on a charge of murder. This is after a 70 year old woman was found dead in her house’s bedroom. Her children discovered her and as they were suspicious about the cause of their mother’s death, the Police opened an inquest docket. A post mortem was held on Wednesday 2011-01-19 at Lebowakgomo Government Mortuary. It was established through the post mortem that the women’s death was caused by strangulation to her throat. Police requested the community for more information and as a result of the information received, arrested three suspects. Molleng Lesele (42), Alfred Komane (52) and Mmolokeng Marabe (52), all three from Ga-Nkoana village, appeared in court on Tuesday 2011-01-25. The case was postponed to 1 February 2011 for further investigation and they were all remanded in custody. The Police say they would like to thank community members for their assistance and encourage people to continue to give information that will ensure justice is done.

Nkwe Platinum has decided not to resume trading shares on the Australian Stock Exchange (ASX:NKP) after it earlier announced that the company will probably resume trading last week. In an announcement th company’s Executive Director, Peter Landau says “Further to the announcement dated 13 January 2011, South African focussed Platinum company Nkwe Platinum Limited (ASX: NKP) (“Nkwe” or the Company”) would like to update the market regarding the suspension of its securities on the ASX, and other matters related to its South African platinum assets. While it was the intention of the company to request a re listing of its securities on the ASX, the Board has decided, based on the continued perceived uncertainty regarding its assets in South Africa, to remain suspended for a further period. The Board believes this to be a prudent course of action to ensure shareholder value is maintained and shareholders are able to trade its securities in a fully informed manner with the status of its current asset base positively clarified. As previously advised, joint applications have been made to the South African DMR by the Roka Phasha and Bengenyama communities for rights to the farms Eerste Geluk 327KT and Nooitverwacht 324KT. Genorah is the economic partner for both applications, with NKWE having a back toback agreement with Genorah to ensure its 64% rights to these farms will be maintained. It is the intention of NKWE to remain suspended until a determination is made in the coming weeks based on statutory requirements with regards to the section 104 applications to these farms. The Company is also aware of a number of parties, including an Australian based journalist working for a national publication (who is a close relative of the South African lawyer who represents the opposing applicants), who have made a number of false and inaccurate claims to NKWE shareholders and other interested parties (via email) in recent days, which the Company has not had the opportunity (nor has been asked) to respond to. The Company will address all relevant issues by way of ASX release prior to the recommencement of trading. The Company is currently reviewing all correspondence and public statements and reserves its rights with regards to all future action/s. As with previous announcements, Nkwe confirms its stated position with regards to its ability to retain and develop its interests in both the Garatau and Tubatse projects.” The whole issue around Nkwe’s South African assets near Burgerfort came to the fore at the end of last year when Genorah Resources lost a Constitutional court case over prospecting rights against a local community, halting Nkwe’s developing plans until a reolution has been found.

Please help with graves The Police at Leboeng discovered three graves at farm between Mokutung and Kgautswane(Ga-Molai) villages next to the mountain. This is after they received infomation form the Kgoshi that a number of women who were busy gathering wood around that farm found the said graves in farm. It seems that the graves had recently been upgraded. The Police at Leboeng ask the communities from Kgautswane, Mokutung and surrounding areas, to furnish them with more information about the graves as they want to get in touch with the families of the deceased. If the are no people that knows or could assist the Police in finding the families of the said graves, the Police will apply for an exhumation order to find the identities of the people buried.

Waarom ‘n geregistreerde persoon gebruik?

NEWS

What do you think of the Traffic flow and traffic control in Burgersfort seem to be two of the major headaches to both authorities and drivers alike. Frustrated drivers feel that traffic officials are not helping out where needed. When there is electricity supply interruptions and the traffic lights are not working there is seldom a pointsman on duty to help with the flow of vehicles. Repairs of potholes and construction work are other things that are causing frustration. On Saturday last week, the section between Twin City Complex and the soon-to-be fourway stop/robot at Toyota was closed. Repairs was done where construction work damaged the road for the new Kastania road towards the new municipal building and its robots. Saturday was one of the busiest days of the month and no traffic officials were in sight. One of the construction workers tried to regulate the traffic, but soon gave up against the constant flow . Many people thought they’ll take the route through the Twin City centre, only to find that they cannot exit again. This forced many drivers to make use of the openings for pedestrian crossings in the wall between the two lanes in Dirk Winterbach street. One reader who begged to remain anonynous for fear of victimisation said: “It is poor service! I struggled for about an hour to get from the robot that turns to the Morone Centre at OK, to the road at Spar. There was not a single traffic official in sight!”. A man who has been living in Burgersfort for 35 years and also wished to remain anonymous, “because the traffic cops know me and will say ‘hy het ons toegesteek’” said: “It is like night. Saturday you could not move. The taxi drivers are not doing things right. They turn towards Boxer up into the one-way while we have to wait for them. We are paying taxes to be here and the traffic officials should be where the problems are”. We asked readers what they think of the traffic control in general and what they suggest must be done to better it.

SMS us your opinion on the subject to: 073 416 5119

Mnr Tshwared Malatjie, ‘n taxibestuurder sê: “Hulle moet ons laat weet as die straat gaan toe wees. Dis besig en die mense is haastig en dan moet ons ‘n plan kan maak. Ons vra dat as die krag af is dan moet die traffic cops werk. Hulle moet daar wees by die robotte”.

Mnr. Patrick Gericke sê: “Daardie stuk pad waaraan hulle Saterdag gewerk het lyk darem baie beter. Hulle moet net wanneer hulle so werk, ‘n ordentlike detour maak”.

Mr Aubrey Mkhabela and rank marshall, Mr Justice Malepe felt the following will help with the traffic in town: “Respect the one next to you. Obey the robots and make sure it is green before you go. Check the ‘feet-walkers’. Open your eyes to them because they can easily be run over”.

Mr Judias Mokoena and Ms Gertrude Mokoena said: “They must arrange not to make repairs over weekends. It is busy and everyone knows it will cause trouble. The traffic cops must be there to control the traffic. They must also sort out the taxis that just park anywhere. There is no control”.

Mr Joseph Tonga, a taxi driver said:”To have the traffic cops regulate the traffic will sometimes help and sometimes not. At the end of the month the traffic is too much and sometimes the robots do not work. The traffic cops then do not help. They must be here every time”.

Mr Amos Mokwena, a taxi driver said: “There is no problem with the traffic. It is working all right”.

traffic control in town?

Mr Tishetjo Mashego and Mr Ntate Mafane, both taxi drivers, said: “There is no parking for taxis and no proper entrance and exit at the rank at Boxer. The rank is too small. If they build another one it will be better. If there is a problem with the traffic, the traffic officers must control the situation. There was no town planning and still they are doing things without consulting the community. Another problem is that members of the police and municipal officials own some of the intercity taxis and then they order the traffic officials not to touch them, but we are being regulated.

Mr Piet Malo said: “The traffic cops must help when there is a lot of traffic”. Links: Mnr. By hom is Dirkie en Albert Britz.

Mr Jeffrey Seerane, a taxi driver said: “We have only one street. That is why we have a problem, especially at the end of the month. The traffic cops must be there at robots regulating and giving everyone a chance”.

Above: Ms Phyllis Mlambo said: “They must make two main roads. They must also put up better signs when doing repairs”. Above right: Mr Sipho Libambo said: “They must open more streets. The traffic officers must regulate the traffic and not only charge us for speed traps. The robots fail to accommodate us and the traffic cops must regulate, especially at KFC”.

Regs: Me. By haar is Sefastian. Left: Mr Ignatius Mokonyana said: “It will be proper to communicate to the people what is happening. That was stupid on Saturday. The traffic cops must be there to regulate the flow of traffic”.

Mnr.
