Blocked

Siince last week many roads in the area had been blocked and community members intimidated to not go to work. Buses and trucks were also stopped, sometimes by armed people demanding the keys to use the trucks as a means to block roads to local mines. This impacted very negative on the local economy and even things such as schools. This week Steelpoort Academy held its concert and many children were not able to participate due to the ongoing unrest. The photographs were taken at Kalkfontein on Friday last week as Platinum Gazette were delivering newspapers.

SPORT Melize hooked the big one The Tubatse Angling Club participated in the Klaserie 48 Hour Carp Competition over the long weekend. It was the first time the Club entered into this competition. Anglers camped next to Klaserie Dam while settling in with their rods in the water, ready for the big one. Many of the local anglers caught fish that bettered their personal best, but the highlight of the weekend was when local 19year old Melize Botes pulled the winning fish from the water. It was at about 21:15 in the evening on Saturday that she pulled out the 15,58kg Carp. The competition ended at 12:00 on Sunday and Melize’s big catch landed her a first prize of

R10 000. The Tubatse Angling Club thanked Samancor and Tubatse Ferrochrome for the support. A special thank you also went to Mark Doyer for his effort and involvement. (Information: Herman Botes, Photographs: Tubatse Ferrochrome)
