Public holiday on 3 August (Election Day)

Gazette
Everything seems to be ready for what everybody expects to be a landmark local government election in South Africa next week Wednesday. Remember that voting stations open at 07:00 and close at 19:00. You may only vote in the ward where you have registered. If you go to a braai in another ward, you will not be allowed to vote there. Make sure that your documentation (ID-wise) is in order. You may wear your party regalia. Although everybody understands that voting is immensely important to you as an individual, they will not understand when you take a selfie while voting. Photographs in the voting station is a general no-no and strictly forbidden in most cases. You will receive three ballot papers in this area. One for the party of your choice for the Sekhukhune District Municipality (party list candidates will serve as district councillors) and two others. One of the others is to vote for a candidate in your ward. Anyone whose name appear on the voting paper. For change or not. The winning candidates will be local municipality councillors. The third ballot paper is for the party of your choice. According to the proportion support, party list candidates will make out the other part of their local municipal council. Also with the election at hand, social grant payments for August 2016 have been brought forward and started on 27 July and will run until today. There will be no payment at pay points from 01 to 03 August 2016. Payment at pay points will resume on the 04 August 2016 until the last payment date. The money will be available without interruption as from the 27 July 2016 to 25 August 2016 for beneficiaries using other payment channels.
The streets in the area will probably be much quieter on Wednesday as it is a public holiday in lieu of the local government elections. Do not be too sure that your favourite street vendor will be available.

Samancor ECM makes a difference on Mandela Day Nelson Mandela International Day was launched in recognition of Nelson Mandela’s birthday on 18 July, 2009 and supported by the UN General Assembly. It was inspired by a call that Nelson Mandela made a year earlier. He challenged the next generation to take on the burden of leadership by addressing the world’s social injustices when he said that “it is in your hands now”. It is more than a celebration of Madiba’s life and legacy. It is a global movement to honour his life’s work and act to change the world for the better.
With this in mind employees from Samancor, Eastern Chrome Mines took the initiative and identified someone who required assistance within their community. Makgope créche was identified as that someone. Initially KG, Elvis, Richard and Isaac just wanted to build a swing set, but it was clear that more than this was needed. With the assistance of Samancor ECM, the building was painted, blankets and beanies were handed out to 38 children and 2 caregivers and the swing set was built. “We would like to thank Kgaugelo Mabelane, Elvis Mhaule, Richard Mbiza and Isaac Mphogo for their dedica-
tion towards this cause. A small contribution makes a big difference” ECM management said.

‘Lions Leading Lions’ released Dolf Scheepers, Managing Director of Thorburn Security Solutions officially launched his book “Lions Leading Lions”, on 14 July. Dolf’s book is a first of its kind leadership book based on creating winning tactics for leaders. At the launch Dolf spoke about some of the lessons he had learned in over 30 years in the military and private sector, and got everyone thinking about leadership in an entirely new way. “Find the strength within yourself, find the conviction to become the best you can be, and in doing so you will encounter the magnitude of your purpose, you will hear the roar, and you will find the courage of the lion” is one of the quotes from the book already applauded for making an impact. Motivational speaker Callie Roos joined Dolf and his guests at the launch and spoke about life’s purpose, the instinct to survive, and most importantly succeeding. Each guest left with a signed copy of the book, and the demand for additional copies made it clear that a second edition of the book is a certainty.
