Heritage Day remembers Sebatagomo uprising Executive Mayor of Sekhukhune District Municipality Cllr Keamotseng Stanley Ramaila on the occasion of the Sekhukhune Heritage Day celebration held at Manganeng village earlier this week said “Today, we have gathered here in Makhuduthamaga Municipality, to honour ‘the year of Oliver Reginald Tambo and celebration our cultural heritage’. It is very critical to point out from the start that, Heritage day (24 September), also known as National Braai Day, was not originally intended to be an official South African public holiday. But when the Inkatha Freedom Party, a political party with a large Zulu membership, refused to sign the Public Holiday’s Bill that was being presented to the Parliament of South Africa because it omitted the inclusion of Shaka Day, a day that commemorated the famous Zulu King Shaka, a concession was made. Quite aptly, just as King Shaka was instrumental in uniting Zulu clans into a cohesive nation, Heritage Day (appointed in place of King Shaka Day) encourages South Africans to come together to celebrate the rich cultural heritage and the diversity of our rainbow nation. While addressing Heritage Day celebration, former South African President Nelson Mandela once said and I quote: “When our first democratically-elected government decided to make Heritage Day one of our national days, we did so because we knew that our rich and varied cultural heritage has a profound power to help build our new nation” We are celebrating the Year of Oliver Reginald Tambo, and here in Sekhukhune, we choose to specifically honour this gallant fighter by celebrating the 1958 Sebatakgomo Uprising. Sebatakgomo is part of this historical process of struggle for freedom by the people of South Africa - that was bitterly fought and happily won. It is an enduring tribute to these forefathers that there exist in Sekhukhuneland two areas, namely, Makhuduthamaga and former Fetakgomo Municipalities. We pay tribute to their everlasting legacy- a non-racial, non-sexist, united, democratic and prosperous South Africa we have today. It is because of their triumphs and their tears, their commitment and dedication, their selflessness and suffering that we have new South Africa. Let their spirit live long.of Heritage Digital Repository which includes the inscription of names of heroes and heroines of the historic events”. “In the month of October when the entire nation will be honouring OR Tambo, we will be going to Freedom Park National Heritage site to unveil more than 200 names of heroes and heroines from Sekhukhuneland. This is in line with the national liberation theme where CEO of the National Heritage Council will be among the speakers”.
COM is committed to address issue of unpaid benefits to former mineworkers The Chamber of Mines says the issue of unpaid retirement fund benefits is a massive challenge: R45bn is owed to 3 million people throughout all sectors of the economy. Of these unpaid benefits, around R3.2bn (7%) is owed to 332,000 formerå mining industry employees. Reasons for the benefits being unclaimed are varied. The Chamber says it is committed to address the issue of unpaid benefits together with government and other stakeholders, the industry is working on addressing the matter, as well as engaging and closely monitoring progress with industry retirement funds and
others, including 1970’s Funds; Mineworkers’ Provident Fund; Sentinel; TEBA and RMA. The Chamber has recruited a full time staff member to assist the many former employees and their dependents who visit the Chamber’s offices seeking assistance. Retirement and provident funds are responsible for tracing and paying the benefits. Progress is being made. Outstanding benefits are being paid out although the process does take time.

That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. 12 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. 13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Teams face off in local business league Teams from local businesses are playing friendly soccer games against each other every Saturday. Last week teams from Hendrik’s Panelbeaters (dressed in blue and white) and Cheap Cheap (dressed in maroon and blue) took each other on. The game was played at the soccer field between Lion’s Rock and Aloe Ridge West. Despite very windy conditions the teams put up impressive performances and played their hearts out. This paid off for the team from Hendrik’s Panelbeaters when they saw the back of the net 3 times. All of their goals were scored by Tlou. Tlou was also named the Man of the Match. Cheap Cheap also managed to score one goal. Since the start of these friendly games the team from Hendrik’s Panelbeaters have mostly dominated the games they’ve played. Team is coached by Jerry and they are very proud on their performance so far. Despite it being a long weekend, the game drew quite a few spectators and supporters who loudly encouraged players and gave advice from the sidelines. Hendrik’s Panelbeaters even put up a gazebo and support station for their players. They invite local teams to join them for more games.
