Although Burgersfort and surrounds received on average about 2mm of rain on Wednesday this week, the drought is still very much biting, to such an extent that cattle are chased into town by herders every morning to graze on sidewalks and in gardens. In itself it creates other problems such as cows in the busy streets and home owners with wrecked plants, shrubs and lawns. Said one women this week “luckily I now have a wall around my garden, so it is safgeguarded against cattle�.

NEWS The illegal speed humps between Burgersfort and Riba Cross on the R37 have been removed and replaced by the government with new legal speed humps. The four humps are painted, conform to standards and are signposted.

Cross Border Police clamp down on crime Burgersfort Cluster gets busy Limpopo SAPS and Mpumalanga SAPS partnered with traffic authorities and the Department of Home Affairs for Operation Cross Border (provincial) on Tuesday this week. The operation was lead by Burgersfort cluster commander Major General Joseph Masipa Maepa. The combined force from the two provinces conducted three roadblocks on the Burgersfort access roads, while the mounted and dog unit opreated in the Extension 10 as one of Burgersfort’s flashpoints. Undocumented people were arrested, traffic tickets were issued, people were arrrested for the possession of dagga, people who were in possession of counterfeit goods were apprehended and people with dangerous weapons were also arrewsted. Statistics were not available at the time of going to press. The Burgersfort Cluster say with the Festive Season around the corner, more of these kind of operations will be conducted in the area and called on residents to stay away from crime. Wellness a priority

Culture on display

Indigo Fruit Farming’s Naranja Packers hosted a Wellness Day on Friday 23 September. Workers had the opportunity the get health check-ups performed by the Department of Health and Social Development. This included blood pressure and sugar testing as well as HIV testing. There was also a fun run and walk, a tug of war competition and choir competitions and traditional dancing taking place. Employees participated in large numbers and cheered their favourites on in the competitions. They were also served breakfast and lunch and received a goodie bag with amongst others, a T-shirt in it.

Laerskool Burgersfort hosted a Cultural Evening on Tuesday this week. The evening was marked by poetry, song and colourful performaces. Also on display were the top projects of a few grades who created anything from miniature windmills to clay art.

SAPS heritage celebrations

Heritage Day at Legoleng Primary School

The Tubatse SAPS cluster celebrated Heritage Day and month with a special event at Batubatse Primary School in Praktiseer on Thursday last week. The event was attended by varioius schools and not only featured special cultural performances, but also crime awareness messags for the youth. Originally a sports day was planned but due to the extreme heat of the day, plans were altered to accommodate everyone in the school’s hall. Various SAPS members, including the Cluster Commander, General JM Maepa.

National Heritage Day is on 24 September and this year it fell on a Saturday. Legoleng Primary School in Kgautswane held their heritage day festivities on Friday 23 September 2016. The learners, representatives from the school governing body, teachers and the principal all dressed up in traditional clothing. During the day’s programme at the school the learners participated in traditional dancing, traditional music was performed and even traditional food prepared. A special address by the principal, Mr Motubatse rounded off the day’s activities.

Tubatse SUPERSPAR sparkles on Heritage Day Tubatse SUPERSPAR celebrated National Heritage Day on Saturday last week. Staff dressed up in traditional attire and a festive atmosphere met shoppers on this public holiday. Tubatse SUPERSPAR is part of the Tubatse community and their staff proud of their heritage. They thanked all their customers who visited them on the day (many who were also dressed in colourful traditional dresses).

Heritage celebrations at Tubatse Crossing Mall Tubatse Crossing Mall hosted a large scale Heritage celebration on 24 September 2016. Choir competitions, traditional clothing sales, traditional games, dances and loads of competitions. Customers to the Mall enjoyed the traditional entertainment and cheered on their favourites in the competitions.

Soccer and netball teams compete On Sunday 25 September 2016, Tubatse Masters played against Modikwa Masters as a curtain raiser match for the Eastern Limb Mines’ Heritage Tournament final at Mangabane. Masters won 5-0. Louis Matuludi scored three goals and two more goals were scored by Doctor Klaaste and Malose Thobejane for Tubatse Masters. Teams competed over two weekends to try and reach the final which was played between Modikwa and Two Rivers Platinum Mines. Netball games also took place. Teams enjoyed the cooler weather on Sunday when the netball and soccer finals took place at Mangabane sports grounds. Teams were well supported and the players participated in a good spirit. The organisers thank everyone for their support.

SAPS teams face-off On Wednesday 28 September, the SAPS Burgersfort/Sekhukhune/Leboeng soccer team hosted the SAPS Tubatse/Mecklenburg/Ohrigstad soccer team for a SAPS Capricorn District Football Association league match.

Modikwa is tops Soccer and netball winners - My Heritage East Limb Tournament The first My Heritage East Limb Soccer Tournament ended on Sunday 25 September. The tournament was played at the Mangabane sports grounds. The tournament saw teams from local mines and organisations compete in netball and soccer. The top teams for the soccer were: Modikwa Platinum Mine Soccer Team (winners), Two Rivers Soccer Team (second), Tubatse Chrome Soccer Team (third) and Eastern Chrome Mines Soccer Team (fourth). The netball results were: Modikwa Platinum MIne

Netball team (winners), Greater Tubatse Municipality Netball Team (second), Marula Platinum Mine Netball team (third) and Dwarsrivier Mine Netball team (fourth).
