ALFONSO DOLCE CEO OF DOLCE&GABBANA CASA by Marta Bernasconi

The Dolce&Gabbana Casa Collection transfers the creative signatures that made the fashion brand famous to furniture and design. All of the items in the collection are exceptionally decorative thanks to the liberal use of colours typical of the Sicilian and Mediterranean roots that remain a constant source of inspiration for the brand.

What are the various lines in the Dolce&Gabbana Casa Collection and how have you transferred the brand’s heritage to them? Thanks to its Carretto Siciliano (Sicilian Cart), Blu Mediterraneo, Leopardo and Zebra themes, the Col-lection is a tribute to artisanal excellence, Italian design and the authentic codes of Dolce&Gabbana’s DNA. From furnishing elements to accessories – tableware, textiles, upholstery, decorative objects, rugs and wallpaper – the Casa Collection is a further example of how you can live the Dolce&Gabbana lifestyle even beyond your wardrobe. Is Sicily still one of the main sources of inspiration for you? Sicily and the Mediterranean have always played a fundamental role in Dolce&Gabbana’s creativity and that also applies to the Casa Collection, as these visual cues can be seen in the Carretto Siciliano and Blu Mediterraneo motifs. But the same values also inspire and underpin the project too: Mediterranean lands have always been defined by their hospitality, welcome and wellbeing. These same elements un-derpin this Collection which dedicated to the art of home living and everyday life. Could you tell us about the artisanal elements involved in the colours and work involved? The Collection uses absolutely excellent materials selected after lengthy research and development work. They range from prized oak to décor elements such as silk, jacquard and velvet for the textiles, hand-painted Sicilian ceramics to table accessories and glass blown by the Murano master glassblowers for our glasses and decanters. Special pieces such as armchairs and cushions feature small-stitch em-broidery, an homage to our fashion background: Dolce&Gabbana Casa is a huge celebration of both arti-sanal craftsmanship and Made in Italy. Will you be presenting anything new at the Salone del Mobile? After our premiere in Venice last autumn and the opening of the first Dolce&Gabbana Casa stores in Mi-lan, Capri, Cannes and Puerto Banus (which will be followed by more worldwide), this year’s Salone offered us an opportunity to officially unveil the Collection to the public at large. The aim is to consoli-date the existing lines while simultaneously broadening the range. It’s an adventure and even though it’s only just begun, we already have so many designs! What would be the ideal home according to Dolce&Gabbana? There is no such thing as one perfect home for everyone. But there is a perfect home for every one of us. This is true too of Dolce&Gabbana Casa: just as is the case with clothes, the most important thing is to feel at ease, in this instance in the environment we live in, with its furnishings and colours. Anywhere that makes you feel at home is the ideal home.
