auta Design and Wider have announced the start of construction of the innovative Moonflower 72 superyacht. The 72m steel and aluminium displacement craft is clothed in Nauta Design’s trademark clean, timeless lines and will guarantee guests superb liveability combined with seamless connections between indoor and outdoors. Extensive glass and predominantly horizontal lines underscore the balance of the yacht’s proportions while a chamfered sheer line amidships adds dynamism. Another feature is ‘The Island’, a Nauta Design patent, which is an expandable aft deck/beach club with folding bulwark terraces, that allows guests to move freely from one side of the yacht to the other, from both inside beach club and the open aft deck. The Moonflower 72 will sport the Wider hybrid propulsion system which is made up of two 1860 kW variable-speed generators and a 1MW sodium nickel battery bank. Great attention was lavished on recovering energy dispersed in the form of heat by the electric propulsion system, as well as using AI to learn the habits of owners, guests and crew to help optimise the use of onboard amenities thereby improving efficiency and reducing consumption. www.nautadesign.com
