COURSE WITHDRAWAL & TRANSFER POLICY

Withdrawal Request:

• Withdrawal requests will only be considered if received at least 10 days before course start date, except for Medical Requests, which are subject to the Medical Policy.

• Approved withdrawals will be refunded according to the Refund Policy.

Transfer Request:

Transfer requests will only be considered if received at least 10 days before course start date, except for Medical Requests, which are subject to the Medical Policy. Requested transfer class must have open availability and be in the current Play Frisco Guide.

• If transfer course is not available, and the participant chooses to withdraw from the class, request is subject to Withdrawal Policy above.

• If transfer is to a higher-priced class, the price difference must be paid before transfer can be completed.

• If transfer is to a lower-priced class, the price difference is subject to the Refund Policy below.

Medical Withdrawal and Transfer Requests:

Written documentation from a physician’s office must accompany the Withdrawal or Transfer Request.

• Request form must be received within 72 hours of the first missed class.

• Refund will be prorated if the withdrawal occurs during the course and is subject to the Refund Policy.

REFUND POLICY

Please check PlayFrisco.org for the most up-to-date refund policies.

Cash and check payments may only be refunded by check. All refund checks will be mailed in approximately four weeks.

• Refunds on payments made by check will be held 30 days past the initial purchase date before being submitted for processing.

• Under no circumstances will a cash refund be provided.

• FAC account credits are good for one year from the date of issue. All account credits and refunds are subject to approval by the Parks & Recreation Department and subject to the applicable proration and processing fees.

Note from the Director

Summertime is pool time Having fun and staying safe

As the days get longer and the temperatures begin to rise, people in Frisco will naturally be drawn to activities in and around the water. Any body of water, whether it’s a bathtub or a large lake, can pose a safety risk to people who cannot swim. In the U.S., drowning is a leading cause of death for children under age 14 according to the American Academy of Pediatrics.

We know parents want their kids to have fun in the water and stay safe. That’s why we make it easy for families to play safely by offering both group and private swim lessons for kids of all ages, including as young as six months old. In addition to learning a lifesaving skill, swimming is a low impact, lifelong sport that builds endurance and helps with balance and posture. I remember playing Sharks and

Minnows in the pool as a kid and have many fond memories. Playing in the water as a kid eventually led me to pursuing a career in parks and recreation!

We invite you to have fun and #PlaySafely with us this summer. We can’t wait to see all the swimmingly-good times you’ll have!

Introduction

to Screenwriting

by RARE Learning

Introduction to Screenwriting will cover the differences between writing scripts for the stage and for film.

Camp will focus on reading, critiquing, and learning the formatting of scripts. By reading examples of scripts aloud and then viewing the final product, students will learn the rhythms and patterns to writing for the screen. The final project will be a short piece each student will write and then guide through the read through and revision process. This will allow them to end the class with a camera-ready script. Prior enrollment in RARE Learning’s Film Making Camp is encouraged, but not required. $15 supply fee due to instructor at start of camp via card, Zelle, or Venmo.

Let the games begin! Run, jump, throw and compete in ancient and modern sports like real Olympians! Games include everything from Gladiator Dodgeball, Nerf Javelin and Frisbee Discus, to Tug of War, Dream Team Basketball, and Pele Soccer. On the last day, 3 individual medals will be given for "Most Improved Olympian," "Hardest Working Olympian" and the "Hercules Leader of Leaders." The Frisco Athletic Center offers more than 40 classes a week at convenient times throughout the day to fit your schedule. Take a class before or after work, or during your lunch break. Group exercise class admission is included in your FAC membership. Nonmembers may purchase a day/guest pass at the front desk. WATER EXERCISE

Water Aerobics classes held at the Frisco Athletic Center are available at no additional cost to members of the facility. These classes are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Non-members may purchase a day/guest pass at the front desk. Individuals interested in participating in a Water Aerobics class who are not FAC members may purchase a punch card containing 12 punches for $50.

Adaptive Dance Classes

These Adaptive Dance classes include a 10-week session where students will provide a performance for an audience on the last day of class. These classes are modified based on students’ abilities and needs to provide a sensory-sensitive and inclusive dance class. Volunteers are welcome to accompany students. Different styles of dance will be used to create choreography while encouraging skills development and modeling good citizenship. Teachers are trained by a Recreational Therapist to provide the safest and most therapeutic classes possible. Fall Preview Concert

Join drummer, bandleader, and educator Stockton Helbing and his Helbing Jazz Initiative project for a preview of their upcoming fall season in Frisco. Stockton and his band will perform songs from Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Miles Davis, and John Coltrane, as well as discuss the musical and social contributions that came from those four jazz masters. Whether you are brand new to jazz music, or a full-fledged jazz afficionado, the Helbing Jazz Initiative will encourage, educate, and embolden you with the sounds of jazz and the stories of the unique and diverse people that helped create a true American art form.

Learn to Swim - Parent & Child (6 mos. - 3 yrs.)

The purpose of the Parent and Child Aquatic program is to help young children become comfortable in and around the water so they are ready to learn to swim. While the class is designed to raise the comfort level of the child, it is also intended to educate the parent or caregiver in basic water skills so they are better equipped to aid in their child’s aquatic education and ensure that their child stays safe in all water activities. Children two to three years will be introduced to equipment used in preschool lessons and will work with instructors on taking individual direction to help transition from parent and child to preschool swim classes.

Learn to Swim - Preschool (3-5 yrs.)

Proper swim wear is required. The earlier a child becomes comfortable in water, familiar with safety precautions, and introduced to the basics of beginner swimming, the better prepared they will be around pools, lakes, and other aquatic environments. The Preschool class will teach the fundamentals of water safety, buoyancy, breath control, swimming on front and back, changing direction and water entry and exit. This class will be divided into three separate skill groups (beginner, intermediate and advanced).

Learn to Swim - Level 1 (6-12 yrs.)

The objectives of Level 1 are for students to be comfortable with swimming on their front and back for 10 to 15 seconds. Students will learn to glide on their front and back for 3 to 5 of their own body lengths, front and back streamline with kicks up to 5 body lengths, rolling over from front-to-back and back-to-front, and independently get 4 breaths while traveling. Safe swimming practices will be taught at every lesson.

Learn to Swim - Level 5 (6-14 yrs.)

To enroll in this level, students must be able to show competency in breathing and execution of all four major strokes (front crawl, back crawl, breaststroke, and butterfly) as well as the elementary backstroke. The objective of this level is to continue improvement on the front crawl, back crawl, elementary backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly. Students will be swimming distances up to and exceeding 50 yards to refine each stroke over a water depth of 8 feet. This level will introduce flip turns, open turns, sidestroke, and expand on personal water safety tips.

Learn to Swim - Level 6 (8-13 yrs.)

To enroll in this level, students must be able to show an effective and proficient stroke as well as the appropriate turns in the following: freestyle 75 yards, backstroke 50 yards, breaststroke 50 yards and butterfly 25 yards. Students should also be prepared to show mastery of the elementary backstroke, side stroke, and surface dives. The objective of Level 6 is to refine the four major strokes. Students will combine strokes and turns in order to swim with more ease, efficiency, and build endurance over longer distances.

Students must have passed Level 6 or attended a summer swim team. Join the next generation of life-savers!

Play Frisco's Junior Lifeguard Camp is a fun and exciting two-week camp for ages 12 to 15 years! Participants will experience what it’s like to be an American Red Cross Lifeguard and Swim Instructor with a curriculum built around fun activities that promote exercise and safety while in, on, and around the water. We will have daily breaks at lunch and time to enjoy the Water Park. Please provide emergency contact information on the first day of camp.

Session 1: M-F, June 13–24

Session 2: M-F, July 11–22 8:00am - 4:30pm.

Cost: $480

Price includes a camp t-shirt, hip pack, resuscitation mask and American Red Cross certification for First Aid/CPR/AED upon successful completion of a written exam.

Each day students must bring: a proper swimsuit, towel, goggles (optional), change of or dry clothes, their camp t-shirt, shorts, sunglasses. Lunches can be brought, or participants can buy lunch at our concession stands.

SUMMER 2-WEEK SESSIONS

Learn to Swim - Parent & Child (6

mos. - 3 yrs.)

The purpose of the Parent and Child Aquatic program is to help young children become comfortable in and around the water so they are ready to learn to swim. While the class is designed to raise the comfort level of the child, it is also intended to educate the parent or caregiver in basic water skills so they are better equipped to aid in their child’s aquatic education and ensure that their child stays safe in all water activities. Children two to three years will be introduced to equipment used in preschool lessons and will work with instructors on taking individual direction to help transition from parent and child to preschool swim classes.

Learn to Swim - Preschool (3-5 yrs.)

Proper swim wear is required. The earlier a child becomes comfortable in water, familiar with safety precautions, and introduced to the basics of beginner swimming, the better prepared they will be around pools, lakes, and other aquatic environments. The Preschool class will teach the fundamentals of water safety, buoyancy, breath control, swimming on front and back, changing direction and water entry and exit. This class will be divided into three separate skill groups (beginner, intermediate and advanced).

To enroll in this level, students must be able to show competency in breathing and execution of all four major strokes (front crawl, back crawl, breaststroke, and butterfly) as well as the elementary backstroke. We are proud to offer private swim lessons for all ages. Our certified instructors will teach the skills required to make swimming a more rewarding, safe and enjoyable experience. CERTIFICATIONS

American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification Course

This is an American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification class that will certify the participant in Waterpark & Waterfront Lifeguard Training, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, Oxygen Administration, Epinephrine AutoInjector & Asthma Inhaler and Bloodborne Pathogen Training. This is a two year certification, except for Bloodborne Pathogen which must be renewed each year. In order to participate in this class you must pass a pre-course swim test. This course is a blended learning course and there will be online content that the participant must complete. The instructor will send a link to the online content 2-weeks prior to the class. The participant MUST attend all class sessions and complete the online content to pass.
