Mr SA ARMAND DU PLESSIS

EDITOR’S NOTE PIERRE DE VILLIERS

When we have purposes in life, we feel more motivated, alive and energised. This energy has a positive spin-off, not only within ourselves but also to those around us.

Pleasure and Purpose Promoting a positive contribution to society

Purpose gives us pleasure and the pleasurable things in life can make us feel fulfilled and happy.

Having been in the celebrity arena for more than two decades it became clear to me that there is a certain perception about people in the industry which is not always favourable. The public tends to be under the impression that most celebrities are superficial and interested only in their image and the power of their so-called elevated position. This magazine aims to dispel that notion because my experience after meeting many people in the public eye over the years has led me to realise quite the opposite. There are so many prominent people out there who are far more than their appearance. So many celebrities and successful people are doing excellent work for charities, causes, and society as a whole. Pleasure and Purpose magazine’s vision is to highlight the good that they do and acknowledge them for their efforts.

The author Robert Byrne is quoted as saying, “The purpose of life is a life of purpose.” I would like to encourage all my readers to add meaning to their lives by joining the trend to do good. You do not need to be a celebrity or prominent personality to help the aged, stand up against abuse or help orphaned children. Let’s all unite and make a positive contribution, no matter how small. Together we can turn darkness into light and shine the way to a better future for all.

So many of the special people I come into contact with take pleasure in helping others. They give up their much needed free time to help communities, promote causes and assist those in need. My sincere wish is that the readers of this magazine are inspired enough by those featured within these pages, that they too will take it upon themselves to add value to society and in so doing create a new purpose for themselves.

ANNE MAGGS ARTIST ON SHOW Tuesday 30 May 2016. With 75 artists on show and specifically curated artworks, this year's Rotary Arts Festival held at Hyde Park Corner promises to maintain the 2015 standard of artworks and fundraising successes of past years. This year, a broader Arts Festival includes relevant book launches, music and an inaugural Portrait Competition. Art demonstrations and workshops will, as usual, be held daily. The festival runs from Thursday, 2 June to Sunday, 12 June 2016 with the opening event on the evening of 2 June 2016 from 18h00 and Portrait Competition Awards event on 1 June. Hyde Park Corner has hosted this festival annually for the past 17 years; a much-anticipated event on the local art calendar. It is curated throughout the center’s upper, middle and lower mall. This year special guest artists are Chrysoula Argyros, Paul Botes, Vivien Budge, Dini Condy, Helen Day, Robert Domijan, Laurel Holmes, Sue Kemp, Meriel May, Edward Selematsela and Jane Sims. All artists participating are professional and the work is of an extremely high standard with enough variety to satisfy every taste and budget. Artworks are drawn from various media, which include botanical, print, photography, miniature and watercolour as well as artworks from The Bag Factory, Artist Proof, Assemblage and the Figures & Form studios. “The 2016 arts festival promises to expand the concept with more workshops and music. It sees the exciting launch of a Portrait Competition. The participatory aspect of the popular art-making workshops is educational and art lovers can learn

about how their favourite artists work,” says Joan Sainsbury, the festival event organiser and Curator. This is made possible through a valued partnership with Sanlam. Says Yegs Ramiah, Chief Executive of Sanlam Brand: “Working with the Rotary Arts Festival entrenches and amplifies our lifelong association with the arts. As the proud owners of one of the largest corporate art collection in South Africa, Sanlam has long recognised outstanding local art that tells our country's stories. Through this collection as well as the Sanlam National Portrait Awards exhibitions we also celebrate our emerging artists. The partnership with the Rosebank Rotary Club was, therefore, a natural fit for us as it gives 75 artists a platform to launch their careers and the opportunity to sell their work. We embrace this prospect and our responsibility to create a nation of Wealthsmiths helping people live their best possible lives.” Participating artists agree to give a portion of their sales towards the Rotary Club of Rosebank to fund its many community projects. Last year these proceeds were donated to Hi Hopes, providing support for families with hard-of-hearing infants as well as youth development and leadership courses for more than 100 learners from Alexandra. This year the proceeds will go towards the same charities.

VINCENT MANDARAY

FINDING PURPOSE Vincent Madaray is an iconic name in the nursing profession in South Africa. His contributions have been dynamic since his student days when he chose to train in nursing at the St. Aid Mission Hospital in Durban. He got the highest marks in his final exams in the whole of South Africa and received accolades. That was Vincent's first acknowledged stellar achievement, his stepping stone to rise further. In the same year, he received the prestigious City Council Award from the Mayor of Durban. Even as a child, Vincent had great compassion for those he witnessed suffering. He always wished for an answer to the constant refrain in his mind “How can I help?” His aspiration was clear: to be a person that makes a difference in other's lives. He constantly searched for such the opportunity. For a door to open! Lessons learned Growing up was tough. Vincent's parents may have identified themselves as middle-class citizens, but he experienced poverty, bullying and abuse. Life was a roller coaster until high school, but he never gave up. He often felt that life was unfair, but instead of allowing hard times and tough circumstances to trigger self-doubt and despair, he saw them as lessons. His resolve was to become more resilient and more determined to escape towards a much better life. Eventually, Vincent figured out that most hardships provided him with the opportunity to discover himself, define his life's purpose with greater clarity and share his skills or gifts with others. Back then, facing tough times did not give him any time for introspection. So he did not have the foresight to understand or grasp that his suffering equipped him with better skills to reach out effectively - to empathise with people in

trouble, understand their pain and offer them comfort. Now in retrospect, he views it as a blessing in disguise that shaped the rest of his choices, the rest of his life. Reaching for the stars In January 1998, Vincent studied further for a Diploma in Nursing (General, Community, Psychiatry and Midwifery) at the RK Khan College of Nursing. He was bestowed with the Henrietta Stockdale Award for the best professional image throughout his training. Midwifery was his passion - he delivered over 100 babies while he trained at RK Khan College. Passing his diploma course with distinction gave him great satisfaction. While at the RK Khan Hospital in Chatsworth, Vincent was chosen to be the student representative council chairman (SRC) for student nurses for 4 years in a row. Later, he was selected to be the chairman of the KwaZulu-Natal Student Representative Council where he fought for rights of student nurses and attended numerous meetings at National Level representing the sunny KwaZulu-Natal in the hope of making a difference. Executing his role as the Chairman of the provincial SRC, his leadership skills developed further. “This gave me a good opportunity to continue working at the RK Khan hospital but also to venture into lecturing at the Protea Nursing School.” Vincent has immense value for education. Knowledge is wealth. It was his route to better opportunities. From then on, Vincent began giving back to the community. He spent time at Aryan Benevolent Homes assisting in the daily nursing care of its residents, fulfilling his wish to make a true difference. He participated in community projects to educate the Chatsworth community on HIV and AIDS. His passion for people grew. He took part in projects organised by churches to alleviate dismal situations among the destitute. Practicing Compassion - the global reach Vincent's life took a new turn in January 2007 as he accepted the challenge and opportunity to work abroad. He accepted the position of a

Charge Nurse at Sheikh Khalifa Medical City in Abu Dhabi, the capital of United Arab Emirates. Vincent made his first journey to Dubai. Almost immediately, he made his mark at his new job, by becoming a nurse manager almost a year after leaving his own nation, South Africa. He manages Oncology, Hematology, Medical and a long term unit with treatment capacity for 96 patients. 125 staff members work under him. A born leader, Vincent speaks at conferences and workshops in Dubai to empower healthcare professionals. At present, Vincent is qualified as a specialised oncology nurse. He became a member of the Abu Dhabi Cancer Wave Awareness Campaign. Now he visits schools and addresses audiences at different events to raise awareness on different types of cancer. He has completed his Master's in Business Administration (MBA). Vincent has received a lot of credit as a dynamic Master of Ceremonies in the UAE. He co-hosted an event with Emirate Hostess Safia Fiaz. He is great at keeping the crowd happy and entertained. Vincent has quite a reputation because of his strong conviction about helping others. He was interviewed by Life magazine in Abu Dhabi where his article was called 'From Zero to a Hero!' He was interviewed on the radio station Lotus FM based in South Africa. It is ingrained in his lifestyle to single-handedly collect food, clothing items and footwear for Syrian and Palestinian refugees as well as others afflicted by war struck regions in the Middle East. The Red Crescent Society supported his effort to make such collections for charity. Accomplishing such a goal is helped along by the fact that many western expatriates are quite willing to make such donations. When they quit their job and leave, Vincent accepts items that are still in good working condition in boxes and stores them to pass on to others. Sardonic, sarcastic or spiteful comments are sometimes pointed in his direction, but Vincent just shrugs it off. Lending a helping hand is how he defines humanity and a faster course to progress. Vincent won a nomination on Radio One as a Caring Person in Dubai recently for his humanitarian efforts. Apart from Middle East refugee camps bordering Syria and Palestine, the UAE Red Crescent Society

was instrumental in getting Vincent's clothes and shoes collections to Nepal and Pakistan. As we all know, Sri Lanka is currently experiencing disastrous floods. Vincent has a project underway to collect clothes and shoes in Abu Dhabi for the disaster victims. Never Give Up In 2014, Vincent met his coach and mentor, Tina Obed who helped him realize his dream to be a motivational speaker. Vincent travels to schools, colleges and hospitals to motivate the youth and professionals to Never Give Up in life. Vincent recently visited Durban and Johannesburg and spoke in nursing colleges to motivate youngsters and give them a fresh perspective of life in the hope of leading them to a brighter future. He always encourages newly graduated nurses to excel in their profession. As a motivational speaker in Dubai, Vincent targets a multicultural audience as expat resident's span over more than a 100 different nationalities. Making a difference counts big time in the life of this iconic nurse. He is moving ahead in an international arena where competition is great. Vincent still sticks to his motto, ‘Never Give Up!’

THE MATRIC EXPERIENCE As we start to head towards the middle of the year, the biggest and most important thing on the minds of all matric students throughout South Africa is, undoubtedly, the upcoming prelims and eventually the final matric exams. In life, one needs balance so it's important to have something fun-filled and exciting to help ease the effects of those stressful exam nerves. Matric farewell, or as some would call it Matric dance, is an opportunity to show off that elegant and unique sense of style that we all possess by putting on a stunning and fashionably styled dress and dancing the night away with friends. To this end, Matric Experience 2016 presented an annual Expo for young adults in their final year as scholars at the exquisite Lombardy Boutique Hotel and Conference Venue in Pretoria on 14 and 15 May. The expo is the quintessential element in preparing for your Matric Farewell, Matric vacation and future career as well as providing an excellent chance to win some magnificent prizes. The Expo offers students the unique opportunity to browse and draw inspiration as various designers and brands present their take on the perfect dress to make your matric farewell a night to remember. It also brings together a sensational collection of exhibitors including a variety of wellknown designers, beauty experts, makeup artists and other related products and services. This event was initially created with a view to assisting learners who were passionate and talented in certain career paths, for example, fashion designing, modelling, photography, acting, journalism etc. but who could not pursue one of these paths due to circumstances not being feasible for a variety of reasons. Not only does the Matric Experience Expo cover the entire spectrum of Matric Farewell, it also

12

introduces potential students to prospective study institutions, gap year opportunities as well as featuring various other options beyond the matric year. This year the Matric Experience teamed up with top brands and local business in order to create a jam-packed day of inspiration, mentorship, entertainment and plenty of prizes. Over 100 entries were received for the Mr and Miss Matric Experience Pageant from public and private schools from all over Pretoria, Johannesburg and the surrounding areas. Entries were also received from places further afield like Bloemfontein and Cape Town. Representatives from each of the schools in these areas competed against each other for the title of Mr and Miss Matric Experience. The winners were:Miss Matric Experience 2016 - Reinette Potgieter from Die HoĂŤrskool, Menlopark Mr Matric Experience 2016 - Ruan van Zyl from Tyger Valley College, Pretoria The competition is referred to as a pageant but essentially it is not really a pageant. It is a mentorship program presented in the form of a pageant, meaning the prizes are more in line with assisting the contestants and bringing them together with the right mentors to help them pursue their dream careers. The winners receive everything they may need for their Matric Farewell like suits, dresses, hair, make-up, photo shoots, gym contracts and personal training plus a few fun things like scuba diving courses, movie premiere tickets etc. Some of the mentorship prizes that were given out to the contestants who are enthusiastic about pursuing certain careers are:- Roune Monteiro was given a mentorship with Mr South Africa 2016 Armand du Plessis to help prepare her for her LLB studies. - For the girls who wanted to pursue their dreams of becoming models or the next Miss South Africa a mentorship was given out with the inspiring Riana Mooi - Mrs Globe 2015. - For the girls who wanted to pursue their dreams of becoming a photographic model a

mentorship with ‘Our Strands of Love’ which is a hairpiece/hair extensions and hair/beauty supplies company. The Expo was launched in conjunction with another competition called Design Your Own Matric Farewell Suit or Dress. Two lucky winners from this design competition had their own designs made for them by Smart Guy and Claris Designs by Gerrit Pienaar. These special students showed creativity beyond all expectations and really blew the judges away with both their fashion knowledge and design skills. They also received a mentorship prize with South Africa's most iconic fashion designer JJ Schoeman.

MR SOUTH AFRICA ARMAND DU PLESSIS WAS A JUDGE AT THE MATRIC EXPERIENCE The Forever New fashion show, styled by Anri Joubert, stole the limelight at the Expo with their amazing dresses designed to showcase the best side of every girl. Their elegant take on classical dress designs incorporated with rich and luxurious colours certainly promised any girl an outstanding and notable dress to wear to her matric dance. Designers and Product suppliers for this year's fashion shows were Chirpy Chix, Factorie, Olive + Maroon, Forever New, Designer Dress, Claris Designs by Gerrit Pienaar, JJ Schoeman - Theatre of Fashion, Thomas Thomson haute couture and SmartGuy and all styling was done by Simple and Sophisticated, a fashion blogger.

PURPOSE IN RELIGION PHILIP LIEBENBERG Who on earth knows? What jumps up in my head is this: the first people who became religious were those who thought that the thunderstorm which wreaked havoc on their crops was a god. That, in my mind, was the very first purpose in religion humans felt unsafe and insecure with forces of all sorts hailing, raining, howling and clenching around their stuff, their food and their own flesh. These forces were the gods they slowly, but surely began to appease in order for their lives to be protected.

he decided that there were only two: Ahura Mazda, the good God, and Achriman, the bad rival-god. They both had their little minions who were called demons and angels. This had an impact on the monotheism of the Israelites who were taken captive by the Assyrians. They spent enough time there as slaves to be influenced by Zoroaster. In their minds, he brought some peace and a resolve to a pressing issue that bothered them since they went into slavery. The question? Why did their good God allow them to be taken captive when He had sworn a covenant love for them? He would make them a nation that would conquer all others. The only mandate He had to bring harm on them was when they were unfaithful to Him, which they were at times, but not in such a vast manner that would justify total destruction. Zoroaster gave them the missing piece of the Godpuzzle: Achriman, the bad rival-god. This explained why bad things happened to good people. They went back to their land and took Achriman with. They only renamed him: Satan. Lucifer. This coincided beautifully with the Greek version of the same fictional character who was thrown into the underworld to rule there.

So, they prayed to the sun. The wind. The Rain. Whoever reigned the day and could save it for them. Soon they saw that these prayers didn't really do the trick. Still too much of the not-sonice acts of the gods prevailed. They took things a step further; they threw their babies and children on all kinds of altars to prove to the gods that they were super serious about yielding themselves in submissive praise and adoration. They even cut their own hearts out. Well, the hearts of their friends or foes. The purpose in religion? A very basic issue tied to Maslow's pyramid. We need things. We need safety. We need shelter and we need successful lives. Who else to go to than the very forces we believe hold these in their hands?

Religion continued to make things better. More hopeful; one can appease God and wait for the blessing. And if that fails, you scoff at Satan in the Name of God and chase him off your property. Life and its events are merely the manifestation of how you fare as partaker in this fight between the good God and His bad rival. Two Gods, in effect, is what governs the world. And we take sides. It makes a lot of sense and causes us to sleep at night in the mere knowledge that we are on the right side, so things will be fine. Even if death us from this world parts. Sudden death, sudden glory. We go to heaven where all tears will be wiped forever, and no more reason to cry will ever rear its ugly head.

As time went by man became a bit more philosophical. The gods became more abstract and also less in numbers. Eventually, the Assyrian, Zoroaster, cleared the skies and lessened the gods

Religion gives so many explanations for when things go wrong. The Good One has a purpose for every incident where a baby dies. Or a mother. Or your car gets stolen. You don't know what the purpose is, but He knows and that is enough for you. You also don't have to angst over your day of

15

ARTICLE departure for the line is drawn in the sand. God knows when He wants to take you and He will. Not before, and not a day later. If you refuse to get on that destined-to-crash aeroplane, He will make your car roll via the evil of some sleep that will overcome your brain. He has a hand even in the evildoings of the Evil One. He controls it all. We are okay. Especially when we use our weapons of spiritual warfare those times when the evildoer tries stunts that the Good One did not give a thumbs up for. We have superpowers in God's Name and we are able to wield swords that will keep us safe. Except when the Good One sees it fit to let the calamity overcome us. A sudden storm, a secret reason why. Sudden death, marching into Canaan's Land. Religion provides a sense of safety in an uncertain world. Religion gives us prayers and words that cast demons out. Religion gives us an opportunity to hand all responsibility over to The Man Upstairs who knows better. Religion gives us forgiveness and a way to force others to forgive us too. Religions are all the making of antiquity. Their thought on God that stemmed from their need for security. Religion is not bad. Not always. It did and still does a lot of harm. But the idea is okay. Why do I say “okay? Because I believe it is time for religion to give way to something much less mythical and airy-fairy. I believe that modern people can draw more meaning and tools for life from the simple idea of mutual respect and a liveand-let-live mind-set. A social contract that is already rooted deep within our psyche. A contract that states that selfishness is not the result of a woman eating a forbidden fruit, but a wonderful gift of evolution. We survived as a species because we are strong and able to fend for ourselves. We only need to have our self-love bridled by mutual love. That, I believe is what most teachers tried to teach us. In the words of Jesus, my Master Teacher: Love God, and love your neighbour as you love yourself. How's that for a good religion with purpose?

FINDING PURPOSE EON JOUBERT In the last fifteen years or so I have made Finding Purpose not so much a pursuit as a ministry. I see so many young people focus more on the job and the money than they do on how to live with purpose. I know so many people that are living their lives as if they are going to live forever, will be forever young and the next Marilyn Monroe or Kim Kardashian. They party and play and when asked about things of substance they laugh it off as a headache inducing buzz kill, not realising that the nightmarish rush of hedonistic pursuits leaves you empty and dead inside. It is no coincidence that the greatest minds and the sages of all ages agreed that life is only worth living if it is in the service of others. As humans, as primates, we learned early on in our evolution that working together is the only guarantee to success and evolutionary advancement. If we are open to it, we can still fulfil our evolutionary destiny by being conscious and helping with each interaction we have with others to have their highest good in mind. I have been a student of life from a very early age and the question that came up most frequently was ‘what is my purpose’. Thousands of books have been written on the subject and still the question that we each ask at one point in our lives or another is ‘Why am I here?’ ‘What was I meant to do with my life?’ I had the particular misfortune of being told exactly what my purpose was at a very young age, “You will do great things in the Kingdom of God one day”, that statement was one of the shaping messages of my young life. It was at one point my

bane and I lived for many years waiting for the ‘great things in the Kingdom’ to happen. I grew up in a Charismatic church in the 80's, and saying that I grew up in the church was no understatement. The church was my family, my point of stability, community and friendship and it alienated me from most everyone around me, including my brothers. I did everything with the fervour of an evangelist and I got involved with everything the church had to offer, but somehow after years and years of agony and painful belly button gazing, I finally got to a place of giving up. Because no matter how hard I tried I could not get to the ‘great things in the Kingdom’ I read the books by Dr Myles Munroe and Rick Warren and did courses on counselling, did personality tests and still could not get to a practical answer for my life. I was looking for that ‘thing’ that would infuse me with energy and get me moving. Eventually, I left the church and its politics behind and pursued a more open minded and personal spirituality. It was in this giving up and leaving behind of what was at that time the be all and end all of my life, that finding my purpose was actually realised. For me purpose is to encourage others to their highest potential, to bring the right word at the right time; the answer at the perfect moment. The funny thing I found about purpose for me, is that it is like a spoon, so specific to its function that its design and function cannot be separated; its purpose is so close to it and happens so naturally that you cannot separate the two. It is like looking for a dexterous tool that can grasp things while forgetting that the hand at the end of your arm is the miracle tool that you were looking for. It is like the fish that is so immersed in water that it does not understand what it is. A spoon is so natural to its purpose, its design so precise for its function that trying to separate its purpose from its function is an exercise in futility, it is impossible. And that is how it is with Finding Purpose, the thing that you are doing already, the thing that comes so naturally that you don't even see it happening, is your purpose. I believe now that finding purpose is more about doing what you can where you are with what you've got than the

17

‘great things in the Kingdom’ bearing in mind that the Kingdom is everywhere and not always in obvious places like church or any other institution. It is the hand at the end of your arm that is and always was your miracle tool. One of the biggest influences for me, in finding purpose was the book ‘The Celestine Prophecy’ by James Redfield. He highlights the role that synchronicity plays in your life and that if you follow the synchronistic path you automatically fulfil your purpose along the way. Purpose is a dynamic thing that takes place moment by moment by moment, like breathing, you cannot stop doing it, or you will die. Although it is a natural thing people still feel frustrated in their lives because they feel that they are not in the right job or the right relationship but if you begin to recognise your purpose as the moment by moment actions you find fulfilment in any situation and you somehow automatically

move into the right circumstances and opportunities make themselves available at just the right moment while you are busy doing what is at hand. Finding purpose in life is a moment by moment experience that is far removed from the grandstanding platforms and limelight. It is about being there for another, being in the present. I used to believe that finding your purpose would go hand in hand with trumpets and fanfare, the heavens opening and a voice speaking from above. Experience, however, has taught me that it is in the little mundane moments, where you are, that you find purpose, being at the right place at the right time, open to the moment and the living force that moves through all of us and everything.

MAX KAAN TV’S “NOWHERE LAND” HYPNOTIST Pierre: Max Kaan is arguably one of South Africa's leading hypnotherapists. Max operates a successful hypnotherapy practice in Johannesburg and each year helps thousands of people stop smoking and lose weight as well as coping better with stress and study effectively. Max Kaan holds a B.A. Degree in Communication (Cum Laude) and a B.A. Honours Degree in Psychology. Max has over 25 years' experience in hypnotherapy and is the President of the South African Academy of Hypnosis (Established 1990). He regularly presents talks and seminars worldwide to Industry, Commerce, Organisations and the General Public on the benefits of health and wellness achieved through the medium of hypnosis, using your brain for a change. Pierre: Max, you're well known locally, countrywide and internationally, what are you up to, what's new? Max: Hello Pierre and a big Hello to all our readers, I must first tell you I'm a big fan of the magazine. Well, what's new right now, and its hot off the press, is the launching of my MaXway Seminars on stopping smoking and weight loss. We are also rolling out the MaXway to cope with stress and the MaXway exam success, more of that later. Pierre: Sounds exciting Max tell me more. Max: The MaXway system of stopping smoking and losing weight is a revolutionary new way to quit smoking for good, permanently and also to lose all the excess weight you've ever wanted to with ease.

20

Max: I'm concerned with the worldwide problem of cigarette smoking and the damage to health it causes across all cultures. So during the last five years, I have honed and perfected the MaXway system to stop smoking. The MaXway to stop smoking addresses all aspects of smoking, including the habit, addiction, social, physiological, psychological and adopts a whole brain approach. What makes The MaxWay method different and so effective even in extreme cases is the fact that with the MaXway the smoker deals with the root problem and not just the symptoms. This is revolutionary and if you're a smoker who wants to quit, what are you waiting for? It doesn't matter whether you smoke 5 cigarettes a day or 100, the MaXway is the most effective and permanent way to successfully stop smoking. Pierre: Max, does it really work? Max: Pierre, yes it does, let me recount what happened a year ago. On the 28th of May 2015 with World anti-tobacco day looming, Jacaranda 94.2 FM decided to test the MaXway system. The Complimentary Breakfast team set out to find the most extreme smoker and to confirm just how

effective Max Kaan's MaXway system is. Jacaranda 94.2 appealed to their listenership and after receiving thousands of emails, sms's and calls from people desperate to kick the habit they selected Mr Henry Locke. Henry Locke's plea was the one that caught everyone's attention. Henry lit up his first cigarette when he was just 11-years old. Today (May 2015) he is 43 and smokes between 5 and 6 boxes a day (that's over 100 cigarettes a day, 15 cartons a month!) Henry Locke's smoking habit was so bad he would wake up from sleep every half hour to smoke. After spending an hour with me and being exposed to the MaXway, Mr Henry Locke stopped smoking. It's now one year later and Henry is still a happy, healthy, relaxed non-smoker. Is this amazing or what. This is how effective the MaXway system is! Pierre: Max is also concerned with the worldwide problem of excess weight and obesity and the

22

damage to health it causes across all cultures. Tell us more about your weight system Max. Max: Again, working seamlessly during the last five years I have perfected the MaXway system to lose weight. The MaXway to lose weight addresses all aspects of excess weight and obesity, including the social, physiological, psychological and adopts a whole brain approach. This whole brain approach creates the alignment that's missing everywhere else. Being armed with all these powerful psychological tools at your disposal, you just cannot go wrong. What makes The MaXway to lose weight method different and so effective even in extreme cases is the fact that with the MaXway the individual deals with the root problem and not just the symptoms. I create in the individual perfect synergy, absolute mind-body alignment which results in an unstoppable you. Let me tell you about Amanda, Amanda came to see me in February.

She was getting married in April. Amanda was in a terrible state, she was sad and depressed. Amanda had been dieting all her life with little or no success. She would lose weight only to regain it back and some more, she had been yo-yo dieting all her life. She yearned to fit into her wedding dress and look beautiful on her special day. She so wanted to look good both for herself and her husband. After one session with the MaXway to lose weight, Amanda for the first time in her life understood how her body and mind worked and the relationship they shared. She quickly put the information to good use and got rid of her excess weight. When she walked down the Aisle she was radiant and beaming with satisfaction and delight. By the way, that was two years ago! And she still fits into her wedding dress. It doesn't matter whether you want to lose 5kg's or 30 kg's, the MaXway is the most effective and

permanent way to successfully get rid of excess weight. Click on the link below and watch as the Complimentary Breakfast catches up with Max Kaan and the extreme smoker Henry to check his progress. http://www.jacarandafm.com/post/max-kaancures-extreme-smoker/ Max Kaan would love the opportunity to present to your Company, a brief synopsis of his MaXway system. Max believes it will lend an important tool, enabling your employees, to quit smoking for good. Lose weight and be healthier by combating stress. We believe the Blue Man’s universal message of joyful exuberance and euphoric celebration resonates within all of us.” CEO of Big Concerts, Justin Van Wyk said “BLUE MAN GROUP is hugely popular around the world. First-time audiences often leave the theatre so exhilarated by the show that it has one of the highest return businesses of any theatrical event. We know it will be the talk of Johannesburg and Cape Town when audiences finally get to experience this innovative, playful and colourful spectacle.” General Manager – Glenn Joseph commented “We are very excited about welcoming the Blue Man Group to the Teatro, Montecasino. I was blown away by this extraordinary production in Las Vegas a few years ago - the entertainment value is priceless. I know our theatregoers will

love this sensory experience.” BLUE MAN GROUP creates experiences that defy categorisation, taking the audience on a journey that is funny, intelligent and visually stunning. All this culminates in the trademark Blue Man Group finale - a blissful party atmosphere. BLUE MAN GROUP is accompanied by a live band whose tribal rhythms help drive the show to its unforgettable climax. BLUE MAN GROUP was founded by three close friends Chris Wink, Matt Goldman and Phil Stanton in New York in 1991. Since the group’s inception, it has grown to include permanent shows in Las Vegas, New York, Orlando, Boston, Chicago and Berlin, as well as a North American Tour and a World Tour. Beyond the stage show, BLUE MAN GROUP has toured the globe with the ‘Megastar World Tour’ rock concert parody, produced multiple albums, including the Grammy-nominated Audio, and the recently released THREE. They will publish their first ever book, Blue Man World, in October 2016. Van Wyk adds, “With no spoken language BLUE MAN GROUP is perfect for all ages, languages and cultures. It gives everyone the freedom to reconnect with their inner child, to re-experience mischievousness, sheer joy and to see what fun three guys can have with 30 litres of paint and 120 marshmallows in the space of an hour and a half!”

BLUE MAN GROUP is brought to South Africa by Big Concerts International – A Live Nation Company.

PURPOSE GUIDE Do we have a purpose for our life that stands apart from any religious, metaphysical or philosophical belief or ideology? What would such a purpose mean to us and how would it affect our life? The answers we are given are as numerous and varied as there are religions, philosophies, cultures, and individual beliefs. My summarised and simplistic answers solely to demonstrate some of the basic principle differences provided by our five mainstream religions are: Buddhism - To enlighten ourselves (about Life) and, through our own enlightenment, to enlighten others by serving as examples or role models and never through forcing others. Christianity - To worship God and unify the people of the world in the name of Jesus Christ through baptism. Hinduism - Some believe that the attainment of love is the purpose of life; others say they need to reincarnate numerous times into this life in order to attain a state of Godliness from which they will no longer need to come back to earth again; some believe that the spirit can manifest itself in any life form and that they are here to manifest the (human) life form they are doing at present. Islam - Worship to the One True Almighty God on Terms and under His Conditions (“ibadah); Worshipping Allah by accepting Allah's Will over his (man) own.

Judaism - Every soul has a specific purpose besides the general purpose of making an abode for God in this world. ... a soul may descend to this world just to do a favour for another in the material or the spiritual realms whenever presented with an opportunity that is certainly sent from Above. Some people also believe that one should forego any ideas about being here to save the world or anything like that as they consider this to be nothing other than an ego-driven notion or ideal. There are also people who believe that we are born, live this life, die, get buried and that's ‘goodbye.’ One thing that stands out for me about these religion's doctrines and beliefs is how little to nothing they have in common even though they share a common objective - the worshipping of a God of creation. So, which of these purported purposes is the real one? Are any of them? Are we all meant to fulfil a single and common purpose as taught by our respective religions or philosophies? Or is there a unique and individual purpose that we should be living to fulfil? If there is, how do you identify this? In 1991 during a month of introspection and selfanalysis, I discovered how my life was driven by a fundamental belief that was the root source for my believing that I was not good enough and no, it was not the result of my childhood upbringing and experiences as it is generally believed. That discovery was to be a life-changing moment out of which I also identified my life's real purpose (to eliminate inequality and abuse). In relating my experience to family, friends and colleagues, I was able to guide them to identify their respective purpose for their life. I was surprised to note that no one identified their purpose to be one of achieving fame and glory, making money, being successful, lying on the beach all day, to travel the world, be a fighter jet pilot, being a CEO, having their own business, or any other things we are busy chasing and creating in our life.

We have many cases in our history of people that have lived to fulfil their life purpose. Gandhi, Mother Theresa, Jesus, Martin Luther King (Jr), Nelson Mandela and many others we may not know or have heard about. What might their life have been like had they not followed their inner calling? What difference or effect would these people have had on this planet had they lived solely to fulfil their existential needs and life goals: -

Gandhi may be just another attorney? Mother Theresa just another nun? Jesus perhaps a good carpenter? Martin Luther King another Baptist minister? - Nelson Mandela - a boxer, lawyer, another shack dweller in an African township? - What about the likes of The Greenpeace Movement possibly never being created? There is nothing mystical, religious, metaphysical or philosophical about your life purpose. It is something very real for you; something you experience, are touched by and feel passionate about whether or not you have done or are doing anything about it ... or ignoring it completely. For example, what feelings and emotions get automatically triggered in you (before you can even think about it) whenever you read about, hear or see anything to with abuse to women and/or child, animals, our natural environment, human injustices etc.? Do you feel as if you are being ‘punched’ in the stomach, do you experience anger, want to punish the perpetrators, and so on. Why do you experience such an instant, uncontrollable triggering of feelings and emotions? Is this also something you have perhaps experienced throughout your life? If that is the case, have you ever stopped to consider why you experience such an intense, passionate and uncontrollable reaction? Though you might not recognise it, the reason you feel like that is because it touches the Inner Core of who you are, your Inner Self, your Soul. It touches your purpose for this life which in turn triggers your passion for what you truly want to fulfil in your life.
