PlusAmm Africa My name is Doris Opokuah Kodom born on April 29, 1975. I was born and bred at Kotobabi with four (4) brothers. Growing up was not easy but with the help of God and my wonderful mother I was able to attend one of best secondary school in Accra which is Accra Girls Secondary School. I was one of the last batch to finished form five (5). My mother paid our school fees by selling ice water at the SWAG Park when we were kids till we all finished secondary school. Unfortunately for me I was not able to further my education because I decided to work to help my mother raised my brothers by selling ice water at night at Neoplan Station at Kwame Nkrumah Circle where my Aunty has a place she sell kenkey and fish. I remember leaving home at 9:30pm to get to Neoplan Station by 11pm and get back home by 4am in the morning. I was always scared walking home by myself thinking something bad might happy to me but I have no other choice. I decided to further my education by joining Super Star School at Newtown but had to drop out again because I was not able to afford the school fees and text books. After working for a while I later joined a Secretariat School at ATTC and become a secretary and got a job at Nsawam Foam Company at North Kaneshie. Worked there for a while to gain more working experience and later it helped me to get a job as a Secretary at ABANTU for Development, which is a NGO working on issues concerning women. The company has branches in Nigeria, Nairobi and its head office in United Kingdom. I was the secretary for West Africa which was a fabulous job because I helped in organizing seminars and conferences and got to know more about issues facing women in Ghana and other countries.

I later moved from Kotobabi to rent my own apartment in North Kaneshie. At the age of 20 years, I took on the responsible for caring for my twin brothers who were staying with me and my niece. Whiles taking care of 3 siblings as well as my parents I was able to save some money and send my niece to hair braiding school to learn how to braid hair. I never saw these responsibilities as a burden to but rather a blessing because somehow I don’t know but I always have enough money to help pay my twin brothers school fees as well as giving them money for transportation to and from school as well as my niece to work every morning. God did blessed me with a good job which paid well and wanted to take some of the burden from my mother who did whatever it takes to put food on the table for us everyday. After working at ABANTU for Development for some years I leftto work for Gateway Services Limited (GSL) two blocks after Nogahil. GSL is an import and export company. Two years into work at GSL I applied for Visa application with the help of my elder brother and got a Visa to come to United States of America. I encounter so many obstacles on my way trying to apply for a US Visa. After I went for my Visa interview and pass I was asked to come back in the afternoon for my Visa and Passport but when it got to my time to collect my Passport I was told they can’t find my Passport. The US Consulate asked me to give them 48 hours to look for my Passport. 48 hours become a week then a month when they decided to give me a letter to be given to the director of passport processing and within an hour of going to passport office they issued me new passport and I took it back to the US Consulate for a new Visa. I was so happy for finally getting my Visa until I found out they printed the old Visa with the missing passport number. I took it back and they cancelled the visa and issued another one. Buying a ticket to the

States became a another problem because I did not have $ 1300(dollars) it cost but once again God made a way when all hope was lost. Coming to United States has open more doors for me and I have achieved a lot and done what is expected of me as a daughter for my family. Life has not been easy but with my faith and trust in God I always conquer my problems. With the help from above I survive everything I went through and without all that struggles I won’t be where I am today. It made me strong and fearless and knowing God word says that “for he knows the plans he has for us, plans to prosper us and not to harm us”. I always say to myself “I am not where I want to be but thank God I am not where I used to be” I have never worried about how much I weigh because I am happy the way I look and most important I have no health issues. Women should know that size Zero (0) does not mean you are health and does not guarantee happiness. Your happiness should come from within.

How to prevent heart attack? 1.Primary prevention Action taken prior to the onset of heart attack is known as primary prevetion. So the chances of occurence of heart attack become very minimal or nil. a.Diet -Intake of food of animal origin(Non vegetarianchicken, egg yolk, mutton, pork and beef) should bereduced.Because these foods contain saturated fat. This fat increases the astheroscerotic changes and narrowing of blood vessels there by increased heart attackrate. There is an exemption to take fish even though it is a non vegetarian. Becauseit contains unsaturated fat which is favorable to heart. But the fried and spicy fish should be avoided. Intake of complex carbohydrates(vegetables, fruits, legumes and whole grains) should beincreased. As it contains unsaturated fat. Here is also an exemption to reduce coconut origin food(eg;coconut oil) -Alcohol-Intake of alcohol in minimal quantity will support heart function by increasing HDL(High density lipoprotein). But higher intake adversely affects our heart leads to high blood pressurealcoholiccardiomyopathy-Ischemic heart disease and heart failure. -Reduction of salt intake to less than 5gms per day

PREVENTION OF UTI - UNRINARY TRACT INFECTION Nine million doctor's office visits each year are due to urinary tract infections, or UTIs. The only thing patients visit the doctor for more often are respiratory tract infections, such as the common cold. Unfortunately, the majority of cases of UTI occur in women. What can you do to help prevent urinary tract infections from interfering with your life? According to the National Institutes of Health, health professionals recommend the following tips to reduce your risk of developing a UTI. 1. Water helps flush your urinary tract, so make sure you drink plenty of plain water daily. More: You Are What You Drink 2. Don't hold it when you need to urinate! Women are often guilty of trying to finish a task before they go to the bathroom. Holding it when you need to go can help any bacteria that may be present develop into a full-fledged urinary tract infection. 3. You've probably heard that you should wipe from front to back after a bowl movement. This is especially important to help prevent bacteria from the anus from entering the vagina or urethra. 4. Taking showers instead of baths helps prevent bacteria from entering the urethra and causing a UTI. 5. Always wash your genital area both before and

tract infections, as well as help speed the recovery process when a UTI develops. Just drinking two 4-ounce glasses of cranberry juice daily is often enough to both prevent a UTI and speed recovery when an infection does develop. 8. Another nutritional route that may help prevent UTI is regularly taking vitamin C supplements. Vitamin C increases the acidity level of urine, which in turn helps decrease the number of harmful bacteria that may be present in your urinary tract system. 9. Always wear panties with a cotton crotch. Cotton fabric lets moisture escape while other fabrics can trap moisture, creating a potential breeding ground for bacteria. 10. If you are one of a large number of women who suffers from frequent, recurrent urinary tract infections, a change in your position during sexual intercourse may help reduce the number of UTIs that you experience. Changing sexual positions may reduce friction on your urethra and reduce your risk of recurrent UTI. Women who suffer from extremely frequent urinary tract infections may be prescribed an antibiotic to take immediately after sex to help prevent the likelihood of urinary tract infection occurrence.

after sexual intercourse to help prevent transferring bacteria to the urethra or vaginal area, which can create a breeding ground for a UTI. More: Personal Hygiene and UTI

6. Feminine hygiene sprays and douches, particularly scented douches, can irritate the urethra and possibly lead to a UTI. Avoiding these products will help prevent not only urinary tract infections, but also other infections and irritations that these products may cause. More: The Douche Debate 7. Drinking cranberry juice is a fairly well-known and natural way to both help prevent urinary

UP CLOSE WITH UP AND COMING STARS OF MUSIC & FILM

Samuel Appiah gyan and Emmanuel Appiah gyan are our names. Born in Kumasi to MR and MRS APPIAH both of akuapim natives. We were living in ayigya, a suburb of Kumasi near knust at KNUST HOSPITAL on 3rd April 1989 on Monday. Father works at CSIR and a transport officer whiles mother is a business woman who runs a shop which she lost recently. Have 3 sisters and 3 brothers which we are part of the boys but lost one brother to sickness. Started schooling at knust day care centre, then to knust nursery, and then to knust primary school. Completed knust jhs on 2004.life is school was not all that pleasant because poor guys among rich company will automatically feel left out. Passed the BECE with good grades but did not get our first choice school so we were admitted in KNUST senior high school offering GEN Science. We went there with our childhood friend, ADU GYAMFI who we told we could sing and rap and wanted to do our own music. We developed our music career while we were in school and completed in 2007, July.

PlusAmm Africa

We moved to Tema on December 2007 to stay with our two sisters in community 4.that was where we met our sisters boy friend who produced our first song called “midnight girl”. In 2008 June, we went for the remedial science (RSP) in UCC. Unfortunately, we didn’t get admission so we stayed in the house another year to re-write our exams. we still were working on our music and acting career and in 2009,did a song with DDRIME,YAW BEMA,BOSSU,DRUM NATION,OKRA called “so much more” produced by our hard earned money. The song had a lot of radio plays and also gave us other opportunities. We started acting in the same year trained by one Liberian director, Morrich and also Alex Nnodi Jnr(a very famous Nigerian actor who has starred in movies like-SOMEWHERE IN AFIRCA,DARK VILAGE,TRIBE,THE GAME and just to mention a few)He thought us most of the things we know in acting. We made our first debut on TV in 2010, ABIBA TV SERIES (a very popular TV series on GTV, MULTI TV).Also schooled at GHALLYWOOD to be a professional actor. And to the reason why we are called TWINSDNTBEG, it’s also another story yet to be told. Our advice to the youth and everyone is that, one must find that thing that is hidden inside him/her and never stop until he/she finds out what that is and be nice to everyone because you would never know who will give you a the last straw that breaks the camel’s back. DATE

ON

ME 6 SIGNS HE IS INTO

I've received a lot of emails from women lately asking me “MISS P, on a first date, how do I know if this man sitting across from me attracted to me?” So many women, especially professional women, have suppressed their natural feminine instincts when it comes to men. When you're on a first da te, men's body language cues and actions are not difficult to read. You just need to notice them. N urses, here are 6 signs to know a man is attracted to you on a first date: He’s going to be leaning into you as you talk. W hether it's leaning forward at the dinner table, or leaning on the arm of the chair closest to you while sitting at a bar, the act of leaning closer to you is always a sign of interest and attraction in a man. His eyes are going to be fixated on you. The saying you hear that “men are visual” is absolutely true. So when a man is attracted to you on a first date, he will not be able to take his eyes off you. Some women misconstrue a man's intense looks as being “assessing” instead of what it really is – adoring. Take his stare as a compliment! He will check you out. When you get up from the ta ble and walk to the bathroom, turn around really quickly. If he’s attracted to you, he will be checking out your ass as you’re walking away from him. When you catch him doing this, throw a big sexy smile back at him before you turn back around.

YOU ON THE FIRST DATE He will start talking about sex at some point during the course of the evening. If a man is attracted to a woman, he will not be able to resist talking about sex with her. Once again, and with any obvious vulgarity or rudeness aside, take a man making a passing reference to sex or innocent sexual innuendo as a compliment – and a sign that he definitely is attracted to you. He will reach over and touch you once or twice, maybe on the arm, just to see if you’re going to react back to him. He does this because he is attracted to you and he wants to “test the waters” and see if the attraction is mutual. If you are attracted to him, give him a little justice back and touch him on his arm or his shoulder. He will be saying “we” a lot. Another indication of attraction on a first date is when a man starts to bring the “we” pronoun into his conversation. He’ll be saying “we need to do this” and “we need to do that.” He’s trying to get information out of you to see if he and you are interested in potentially becoming a “we.” These are some clues to know if a man is attracted to you on a first date. Here’s one last clue: If he doesn’t stop looking at you the entire night, and if he doesn’t check out any other women around the room the entire night, then you’ve got him hooked!
