School Closure - March 5, 2020

March 5, 2020

Dear Plymouth Families,

The situation regarding the coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to evolve. We have heard from families who are seeking guidance on precautions and we have heard from those who are expressing concerns. We understand that we all have a social responsibility in situations like this. We take this responsibility seriously. We want to stress that as of this evening we have no confirmed cases in our school community.

In order to provide ample time to thoroughly address all 12 of our schools, the Plymouth Public Schools has decided to close tomorrow, Friday, March 6th. In order to disinfect all potential surfaces that occupants would come into contact with, we have contracted with a professional commercial cleaning service that specializes in this type of work. This closure will be for the purpose of thoroughly disinfecting all 12 schools and school buses.

We want to stress that this is being done out of an abundance of caution. In these unusual circumstances as the national picture continues to evolve, and with thestrong presence of social media, we know it is easy to begin speculating and questioning. We ask for your patience and understanding as we continue to work at the district level to ensure that we are taking the necessary precautionary steps.

We will continue to monitor the situation and update you as we have more information.

Sincerely,

Gary E. Maestas, Ed.D.

Superintendent of Schools
