Cambridge – a student city like no other
Cambridge is a jewel in the crown of England’s heritage. Renowned as a seat of learning, its Colleges continue to hone some of the world’s greatest intellects, while its beauty inspires poets and artists. A city steeped in history, Cambridge is also at the forefront of 21st century technology. It remains a magnet to those who desire both the experience of the old and the excitement of the new. Cambridge’s main attractions are all within easy walking distance, best enjoyed with a lazy stroll around its famous streets. Cambridge, just a 45 minute train ride from London, is home to 22,000 students and one of the fastest growing areas in Britain. Its combination of beautiful gothic architecture, tranquil punting on the river Cam and botanic gardens make it one of the most visited cities in the UK. However, as you would expect with such a large population of students, Cambridge offers much more than stunning scenery. A fantastic selection of cafes, restaurants and pubs are complemented by the full range of high street shops. The ‘Junction’, a popular music venue has been a student favorite for many years with over 1,500 shows per year ranging from dance to rock bands. Regular appearances by international and local acts such as Blur, The Arctic Monkeys and Jamiroquai at The Junction
or the famous Corn Exchange, means students can always get their music fix. There is also a thriving cultural scene with venues such as Kettles Yard offering exhibitions, plays, concerts and the renowned Fitzwilliam Museum displaying an impressive range of art and antiquities. Cambridge is well known for its love of sports ranging from tennis, badminton, cricket, ultimate frisbee and football. Beautiful wide open green spaces, such as Parker’s Piece and Jesus Green which are located in the city centre mean that students can join the friendly locals in an impromptu game of football or ultimate frisbee.

Climate and getting here
How to get around Cambdridge
Cambridge weather is typical of the UK with cold winters from December to early March averaging temperatures between 0 – 10 degrees Celsius. Although there will be some fine, sunny days in winter, we recommend students bring a good winter coat, gloves, scarves and a beanie/hat to stay warm on their way to and from campus. University residences are all equipped with central heating as are all the campus buildings so students can expect to be comfortably warm once inside.
Cambridge certainly does its part to make the world greener. With the highest level of cycling in the country, 1 in 4 residents cycle to work or college. Being a compact and flat city, cycling and walking are quick, healthy, cheap and pollution-free methods of travel.
The spring weather from March to May is fairly mild although sometimes rainy. It is a beautiful time to visit Cambridge as the flowers and trees begin to bloom in the many gardens and parks. The Summer months of May – September are often very sunny and warm (20 – 25 degrees Celsius) and highlighted by glorious long summer evenings. It is at this time that the River Cam will be a hive of activity with many tourists enjoying something Cambridge is famous for – punting on the river Cam. Autumn (September – November) is again relatively mild with temperatures fluctuating around 7 – 18 degrees Celsius.
Links to London are also excellent, with ‘Cambridge Cruiser’ trains leaving for the capital every half hour. The ride takes approximately 45 minutes and delivers you to the heart of London. It is a convenient and affordable way to enjoy all that the city of London offers.
For those who prefer motor power, the local bus service allows commuters to enjoy stress-free travel and beat the traffic. It also allows visitors and shoppers to take the direct route to the heart of the city.
When the rest of Europe beckons, London Stansted Airport is just 30 minutes from Cambridge and provides easy access to the European continent. If you are coming to the UK from your home country or planning on flying further afield you should arrive and depart from either London Heathrow or London Gatwick Airports.

International Foundation Programme The International Foundation Programme is a pre-university qualification that is equivalent to ‘A’ Levels. It is designed to prepare students for further study in the CRIC 1st Year Degree Programme and Anglia Ruskin University undergraduate degrees. Programme duration
Programme structure
The duration of the International Foundation Programme is two semesters in duration which is equivalent to 24 weeks of study.
The programme is normally comprised of four modules each semester, eight modules in total. To be awarded the International Foundation Programme Certificate students must complete and pass all modules according to the assessment criteria.
Entry dates The programme has three (3) intakes per year in September, February and June.
Assessment Assessment for most modules is continuous; consisting of tests, assignments and case study analysis. Most modules have a final examination.
Each module is tailored towards the undergraduate degree the student wishes to pursue at Anglia Ruskin University. Students only study modules that are relevant to their degree.
English language requirement The entry points for the CRIC Foundation programme are IELTS scores of 4.5 or 5.0. The flow diagram below describes the IELTS entry points and their corresponding programmes.

1st Year Degree Programme The 1st Year Degree Programme is offered in partnership with Anglia Ruskin University as an alternative pathway to a university degree. Courses are equivalent of Year One (1st Year) of an Anglia Ruskin University degree and are quality assured by the University itself. Upon successful completion of the 1st Year Degree Programme, you will transfer into Year Two (2nd Year) of your selected Anglia Ruskin University Bachelor degree programme. Programme duration
Programme structure
The 1st Year Degree Programme is a two semester programme allowing students to complete this programme plus their Bachelor (Hons) degree in three years.
Students will normally undertake four modules, which mirror the curriculum taught at the University, each semester. These modules are often also taught by academic staff from the University. Students gain full credit for Year One of their studies at CRIC.
Entry dates The majority of programmes have three (3) intakes per year in September, February and June.
Assessment Assessment for most modules is continuous, consisting of tests, assignments and case study analysis. Most modules have a final two-hour examination.
In addition to formal contact hours, CRIC provides students with extra support through individual consultation with teachers, tutorials, English language assistance, and self-access computer laboratories.
English language requirement Students who do not meet the English language requirement are able to undertake the required amount of English language training to prepare them for successful entry into the 1st Year Degree Programme.

The 1st Year Degree advantage Why would you undertake a 1st Year Degree programme as opposed to the 1st year at university? You will be pleased to know that the academic programme will be the same as what you would study at 1st year at the university. This is why, upon completion, you will be guaranteed progression into second year at the university. You will study the same modules and be taught by highly qualified teachers who are often the same teaching staff at the university. All 1st Year Degree students other than those studying business will be ‘embedded’ which means they will be studying in the same classes as the Anglia Ruskin University students. The only difference being that the 1st Year Degree students will be provided extra academic and English language support. You will also have the very same access as your university peers to modern, wellequipped teaching and library facilities, sporting and recreational amenities, and on-campus accommodation.

When you transfer to Anglia Ruskin University for the 2nd year of your degree you will be eligible to receive £500 towards your university fees.

Pre-Masters Programme The CRIC Pre-Masters Programme has been designed to prepare international students who have not qualified for direct entry to the Anglia Ruskin University’s postgraduate programmes. The one semester (12 weeks) programme allows students direct entry into many of the University’s Masters programmes including the MBA, LLM and MSc International Finance. Programme duration The Pre-Masters Programme is a one semester (12 weeks) programme that will be extended if English language training is required.
Entry dates The programme has two to three intakes each year in February, July and September.
Assessment
Upon successful completion it will enable students to have a seamless transition into their Taught Masters degree.

What will I be studying during the programme?
A Masters programme at any university is a real step up from undergraduate level studies. Considering the fact that most Masters Programmes are just one year, it does not give you much time to catch up if you were to fall behind. We are mindful of this, and as such the CRIC Pre-Masters is designed, to not just be a pathway to the Masters programme, but a brief (3.5 month) programme to help you excel during your university studies.
You will be studying modules that will prepare you for a postgraduate programme by giving you confidence and expertise in areas relevant to your end degree programme.
The Pre-Masters is designed for students from a variety of backgrounds who fall into one or more of the following categories:
• Develop basic numerical techniques, research methodologies, marketing, ICT, presentation and communication skills to support the transfer into the Anglia Ruskin University Masters programmes.

English for academic purposes Students who do not meet the English language requirement are able to undertake the required amount of English language training to prepare them for successful entry into their CRIC programme.
The English language training is conducted by Anglia Ruskin University’s English department. English language training is conducted in 10 week blocks, which is usually sufficient to increase a student’s English proficiency by an equivalent 0.5 of an IELTS band.

Navitas bursary and scholarships Navitas bursary Navitas offers financial support in the form of family bursaries. A bursary applies where two or more students from the same family study with a Navitas member institution. The first family member can be studying with a Navitas member institution at the same time as other family members or may have previously studied with any Navitas member institution. For the purpose of this bursary, a family member is defined as a husband, wife, brother, sister, mother, father, son, daughter or stepchild. The bursary is granted to the second and subsequent family members who study with a Navitas member institution. The bursary is equivalent to 10% of the tuition fee for one program only (ie. High School, Certificate IV, Foundation, Diploma, Bachelor degree or Master degree with a Navitas member institution) and is credited to the eligible student’s tuition fee account each semester (the amount being relevant to the number of units undertaken in that semester). The bursary does not apply to additional units or repeat units that may also be undertaken. Please note: 1. Navitas academic merit scholarships Navitas is committed to helping students achieve their career goals by offering scholarships to outstanding students. The scholarship applies to 50% of the tuition fee for a Navitas Diploma^ program at a Navitas college or one academic semester of undergraduate studies at ACN, Curtin Sydney, Curtin Singapore or Macquarie City Campus. To be considered for the Navitas academic merit scholarship, students must: 1. Have achieved a minimum average of 70% in their high school final year grades. Students who have completed further studies, must have achieved a minimum average of 70% in the last 12 months of their most recent studies to be eligible. Non-academic subjects including physical education, religion and languages are not included in the assessment; and 2. Have achieved a minimum English language proficiency of IELTS 5.5 or equivalent; and 3. Have a Letter of Offer from a Navitas college or Navitas operated university campus (must hold an UNCONDITIONAL OFFER by the application deadline); and 4. Be a new applicant (i.e. students who are currently studying with a Navitas member institution are not eligible). Accommodation CRIC is able to offer places in the Anglia Ruskin University Halls of Residence for those wishing to live on campus. The Halls of Residence consist of low rise, modern buildings situated either on or next to the Cambridge campus. Alternatively, CRIC has off campus accommodation through its preferred service providers. On campus accommodation (single rooms in University Halls of Residence) This accommodation is intended for new students and is normally only available for a stay of one (1) semester (16 weeks maximum). Rooms in Halls of Residence are limited, so candidates should ensure that they apply early. Many students find that after living in Halls of Residence for one semester that they will have settled down, made friends and wish to experience life off campus in Cambridge. Students staying in the Halls of Residence will have their own single room normally comprising a single bed, desk, cupboard, and wash stand. All rooms have free, broadband internet access. Students share a large self catering kitchen and bathroom facilities. The cost of a room for one (1) semester in Halls of Residence varies between £1,400 and £2,000, depending on the accommodation sought.
Anastasia House CRIC students have the option to stay in the University’s premier residence, Anastasia House, at £2,000 per semester. This accommodation provides students with purpose built accommodation with many rooms including en-suites. Located opposite the university it provides convenience and a high standard of living conditions.
Peter Taylor House CRIC students have limited access to a cheaper and more basic accommodation option through the University’s Peter Taylor House. Peter Taylor is the newest and largest of the University Halls of Residence. Located on-campus, it is within easy walking distance to shops, cafes, restaurants and all of your classrooms.
Off campus accommodation CRIC provides a referral service to a preferred off campus accommodation service provider/s for all students (new and continuing) wishing to live locally. The service ensures that CRIC students are assisted in sourcing privately rented accommodation within the city of Cambridge area.
Reserving on-campus accommodation Once you have accepted an offer to study at CRIC you may then wish to ask CRIC to arrange your accommodation. In order to book your room you will need to complete an Accommodation Form and pay a £800 deposit. The remaining rent must be paid on arrival at CRIC. Places are limited and early booking is recommended to ensure a place and choice of room.

Learning support Here at CRIC we understand that the transition to University level study can be difficult for some students. To assist students to develop the study skills necessary to successfully complete their programme of study, CRIC offers a variety of study and learning support services, including:
• Assignment help Our academic team and other teaching staff are available throughout the semester for individual or group appointments if students need help with assignment drafts, researching assignments, essay structuring, assignment writing and referencing in assignments. • English language support (Language Development Programme) A Language Clinic is offered each semester to students who need to improve their English language skills and further develop their reading, writing, listening, speaking and grammatical skills within an academic context.
Attendance warnings All students enrolled at CRIC are required to maintain an average attendance rate of at least 85% per module per semester.
Academic performance monitoring – Students in Jeopardy Programme During semester, the academic team review students’ results and contacts any student who is at risk of failing a course to offer advice on how to improve academic performance.
Employment support The Employment Bureau is a campus based recruitment agency that deals primarily with students, graduates and alumni of Anglia Ruskin University looking for temporary and permanent work. This service is also provided to all CRIC students.
• Study skills training In the first semester of study at CRIC students are provided with modules which help develop their study skills in areas such as time management, academic writing skills and examination techniques.

Step 2 - Offer of Admission If your application is successful, you will receive an official Offer of Admission along with a CRIC Acceptance of Admission form. In order to accept the offer it is necessary to complete all documentation and pay the programme fees specified in the Offer of Admission.

Step 3 - The payment • Cheque/bankers drafts: please make cheque/bankers drafts payable to ‘Cambridge Ruskin International College Ltd’. • Telegraphic Transfer (TT): please use the CRIC Bank Account details provided (next column) to pay by telegraphic transfer. Please note your student ID as detailed on your Offer of Admission as a reference on the transfer so we can allocate the funds easily. • Debit/credit cards: currently we can only accept payments by debit/credit card in person at CRIC. Please note there is a 2% surcharge on credit card payments. • CRIC is unable to accept payments by cash. If you wish to pay your tuition fees by cash you should go in person to a Citibank branch and pay the funds into our CRIC account (provided next column). If you do pay by direct debit or telegraphic transfer you must state your name and/or CRIC student ID number as reference for payment and provide CRIC with proof of payment.

Step 4 - Receipt and visa support documents Upon receipt of fees CRIC will issue a receipt and all visa support documentation. Applying for a visa Prospective international students intending to study in the UK must apply for a visa. Visas must be applied for prior to arrival in the UK. There are regulations that must be met before a student visa is issued and these vary from country to country. Information about visa regulations for your country is available from the British Embassy. Alternatively, your Agent will be able to assist you with your visa application.

Deferment of admission
1. For the purposes of the Refund Policy a course is defined as one (1) semester of study in any programme of CRIC.
If a student wishes to defer their admission to the College until a later semester, they must apply in writing to the College Director/Principal of CRIC – see the Deferment of Admission Form on www.anglia.ac.uk/cric or contact cric@anglia.ac.uk
2. If an applicant accepts a place offered by CRIC and pays the tuition fees, it means a binding Contract is created between the student and CRIC. 3. Notification of cancellation/withdrawal from modules, withdrawal/deferral from a programme of study must be made in writing to the College Director/Principal of CRIC, see Deferment of Admission and Deferment from Studies in this document. 4. In the case of cancellation/ withdrawal, the cancellation charge will be calculated as: a. Full refund of deposit (minus any bank charges incurred) if visa application is refused. b. 50% refund of deposit paid if cancellation is made eight (8) weeks or more before the start date and no visa application has been made. c. No refund of deposit if cancellation is made less than eight (8) weeks prior to programme commencement or if no cancellation is made and the student fails to enrol by the stipulated deadline. d. No refund of deposit once visa is issued. 5. Students who have their candidature to an award terminated by CRIC will not be entitled to any refund of fees paid, inclusive of any accommodation deposits, fees, levies or charges . Any fee refunds will be at the discretion of CRIC.
Deferral will only be granted for one (1) semester unless determined otherwise by the College. If deferment is approved there is a charge of £250 at which time CRIC will hold all fees already paid (at least one (1) semester’s fees must have been paid) until commencement of the required programme actually occurs. In the event the student subsequently cancels the deferment and withdraws instead, the date on which CRIC received written notification of the deferment will be considered the date of withdrawal for purposes of the College’s Refund Policy. Failure to enrol within one (1) semester of the original application will result in the forfeit of all prior monies paid to CRIC.
Deferment from studies (leave of absence)
Students may be granted a leave of absence on certain grounds after the commencement of their second (2nd) semester. Students wishing to apply for a leave of absence after this time must seek an appointment with the College Director/Principal of CRIC. If granted, their place may be held but all tuition fees applicable to that semester will be forfeit. A leave of absence will only be granted for one (1) semester unless determined otherwise by the College. If the absence/ deferment is approved, CRIC will hold all fees already paid (at least one (1) semester’s tuition fees must have been paid) until re-commencement of the required programme actually occurs. In the event the student subsequently cancels the deferment and withdraws instead, the date on which CRIC received written notification of the leave of absence/deferment will be considered the date of withdrawal for purposes of the College’s Refund Policy. Failure to enrol within one (1) semester of the original application will result in the forfeit of all prior monies paid to CRIC.
If a student wishes to take a leave of absence from their programme they may apply in writing to the College Director/Principal of CRIC no later than two (2) weeks prior to the commencement of the following semester, see the Deferment/Withdrawal from Studies Form, www.anglia.ac.uk/cric or contact cric@anglia.ac.uk
6. CRIC reserves the right not to offer a programme/module previously made available at its own discretion. Where a student is unable to enrol in a similar programme/module at CRIC and the enrolment is cancelled then the appropriate fees for that programme/module will be refunded.

Conditions of enrolment Fees 1. All fees, charges and accounts will be payable in advance as determined by CRIC. Students will not be permitted to commence or continue their programme at the beginning of any semester until all outstanding fees, charges or accounts are paid. 2. Any payments not made by the due date will incur a late payment penalty of ÂŁ200 and will accrue a further penalty of ÂŁ50 per week until the full amount owing has been paid. 3. Fees are correct as at the time of printing. CRIC reserves the right to vary its fees at any time. 4. Where a student studies less than or more than a full semester load, the student will pay the current per module fee for each module undertaken. The minimum load in any semester will be 75% of a full-time load unless otherwise approved by CRIC. 5. Should it be necessary for a student to repeat a module, the full amount for that module will be charged.

2. CRIC may, by written notice, vary conditions of enrolment as necessary to comply with any law, regulation or amendment thereof, of the Government of Great Britain. 3. The Contract between the Applicant and CRIC is governed by the laws of Great Britain. 4. In the event of circumstances requiring urgent medical care where it is not possible to contact the parent/guardian, CRIC is authorised, as a matter of urgency, to seek and provide appropriate medical care. 5. International students must meet the minimum English language proficiency requirement for entry into the course. English proficiency will be tested; if the test reveals that the English language skills are insufficient, the student will be required to include a bridging English module in the first semester of study (free of charge) or enrol in either a mixed programme or an intensive English course prior to the commencement of studies at the discretion of CRIC.
Attendance regulations The British system of Higher Education recognises that the ultimate responsibility for a student’s educational achievement lies with the student themselves. Moreover, as the vast majority of students in British Higher Education are over 18 years of age, they are recognised as adults and a considerable amount of freedom is extended to them so that they can regulate their own studies. While CRIC (also known as the College) fully endorses the idea that students
must take responsibility for their own learning, the College does have a minimum 85% Attendance Policy which aims to limit the number of those individuals who fall unnecessarily into bad habits of non-attendance or poor attendance and ensures that good study routines are established. This policy stipulates that successful progression is based on students maintaining an 85% attendance in all classes, and as such the policy is monitored closely. Students who do not comply will find that they will jeopardise their ability to pass module/s or their programme. CRIC reserves the right to terminate the candidature to an award of any student who has a poor attendance record. CRIC recognises that there is a direct link between poor attendance and poor academic performance by individuals. The College also holds the view that students who fail to attend classes are letting themselves and their sponsors down. Similarly, because education is a social experience, they are letting their classmates down. All students will be apprised of the Attendance Policy on arrival and will be required to sign off that they have read and understood its implications.
