Virtual teams research survey Dear PMI Chapter member, I am seeking your help on research into the structure of virtual teams. I would greatly appreciate if you would complete a survey for this research The purpose of this survey is to conduct an empirical analysis of the structure of virtual teams. The aim is to identify forms of virtual teams and to examine their characteristics. The research is one of the 2013 Project Management Institute (PMI) academic research grant recipients. It is also part of a doctoral research project being conducted by Padhraic Ludden and supervised by Dr Ann Ledwith, University of Limerick, Ireland , Engineering Research Centre,. The survey is being distributed to selected PMI chapter members worldwide. The survey will ask questions on the characteristics of virtual teams – number of team members and team locations, time dispersion, geographic dispersion, cultural diversity, social conditions, political power, team membership, task complexity and communication technology. For the purpose of the survey, you as the respondent are asked to answer the questions from the point of view of the most recently completed project that you worked on which involved a virtual team. In the context of this survey, a virtual team is a team where all the team members are not located together in the same work location. The survey was pilot tested and the average time taken to complete was 15-20 minutes. If you wish to complete the survey please click on the URL: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/virtualprojectteams Thank you Padhraic Ludden, PMP Chapter Member Advisory Group Member Former Region 8 Mentor

Project Management Humour 3 Cats A young girl enters a pet shop to buy a cat. The pet shop worker shows her three cats that look identical. "This cat here costs $1,000," he explains. "Why does that cat cost so much?" the girl asks. "This cat knows how to complete legal research," the pet shop worker explains. The girl asks about the cat in the middle, and the pet shop owner explains that the middle cat costs $2,000 because it knows legal research and can win any case. The girl is curious and asks about the third cat. "That one is $5,000." "Well, what can this cat do?" asks the girl. "Honestly, I have no idea. I have never even seen it do anything at all, but it says it's a Project Manager."
