Chapter Board News We are glad that our secretary Jan Vermeijs has resumed his Chapter duties again. Due to work and personal circumstances he had to hand over his Chapter duties to André Legerman for a couple of months. In September the Board is planning to have a strategy meeting with our Sponsors, where together we will determine the PMI NL Chapter aims and goals for the coming years. It also provides valuable input for our 2016 Business Plan which we will develop later this year in December. As you have read in our previous newsletter, the 2015 PMI Summit was very successful from the participants’ and speakers’ point of view. Also from an organization perspective we rated well, because for the first time since we started 4 years ago, we could close the books with a positive outcome for CKC and the Chapter. A high point for the Chapter’s 2015 accomplishments.

ISO for projects – reminder for comments As mentioned in our July newsletter, you have the possibility to comment on the draft document ISO/DIS 21505 “Project, Programme and Portfolio Management – Guidance on Governance.” NEN provides an electronic version of this document for online reviewing and submitting comments to everyone interested in The Netherlands, see http://www.normontwerpen.nen.nl/Home/Details/441 which is available only until 6 October 2015. We will invite you to have a look and deliver your comments on this important future standard that impacts all of us as practicing Project Managers. The NEN standards committee is always looking for new members to participate in the actual development of the ISO standards in this field. Please contact Rommert Stellingwerf, if you are interested or if you like to receive more information.

Final date for PMP exam

To allow all stakeholders additional time to prepare for the updated Project Management Professional (PMP)® exam, we have moved the last day to take the current exam to 11 January 2016. After this date, the PMP will reflect the new exam content outline. This is a change from the original date of 1 November 2015. Take advantage of this extra time to ensure your Chapter’s learning activities address all upcoming changes to the PMP exam. Remember, 11 January is the last day for the current exam. Visit the exam hub and find everything you need to get your Chapter ready.

Upcoming events

Thursday August 27th - PMI Chapter meeting at Ericsson, Rijen NB We are delighted to invite you to our Chapter Meeting for August about Smart Cities and what Smart Society means to the Project Manager. This meeting will be held at and Sponsored by Ericsson. A cluster of technological advances are changing how people live, work and play. Physical and virtual areas of our lives are increasingly becoming intertwined. More and more of our interactions are mediated by machines. The Internet of Things, M2M (machine to machine) hyper-connectivity, wearable technology, intelligent living and ubiquitous computing are all increasingly important areas. The common underlying agenda is to develop new forms of connectivity, new types of digital relationships, and anchor opportunities presented by the greater integration of connected technologies into everyday lives. Hurdles for developing the smart society are amongst others, Sustainability education, Environmental concerns, growing focus on Corporate Social Responsibility, increasing Regulatory Requirements and impact on Operational Costs. These topics entail much more complexity than normal IT or construction Projects. So how does the Project Manager manage the diversity of aspects in these kind of implementations? How can s/he make use of the smart capabilities becoming available? 17:00 18:00 18:05 18:15

Smart Cleaning Project Laurens de Nooyer, Business Development Manager at Ericsson. Using existing data from buildings, and combining this data and enriching it with additional inbuilt sensor information, such as weather, traffic jam data, travel data or counting people in the office allows for the creation of new services for the building owner and the users of the building. The building owner will have more capabilities to control his building and manage cost. One example which will be presented is the Smart Cleaning Project. Coffee Break What difference does a Smart Society make in the life of a Project Manager? Thomas Swaak, Global Change & Transformation Manager at Philips. As we develop towards a Smart Society, the way we live, work and play will change, be enhanced and enriched in ways we could never have imagined previously. From the developments and trends evolving within a Smart Society to the very specific area of technology-enabled communities of practice, there is much value to be gained for Project Managers. We will explore and make some practical and inspiring discoveries in both areas. Wrap-up & Networking drinks Close ●●● 7

Thursday October 15th - Chapter Meeting on Change Management: Why to Change & How to Change – Storytelling as “Change Enabler” Location still to be determined, please let ceo@pmi-netherlands-Chapter.org now if you can host us.

Enabling effective Organizational Change is becoming more and more common business in the profession of Project and Programme Management. On one hand we see the need for critical competencies for defining, creating and directing Change and addressing the “why" of Change. On the other hand we see the need for “how” to activate Change with wellchosen interventions. The main objective of both is creating effective Change: Change which pays off. In this session we address the “why” and “how” of Change with two views: •

Change Approach Choosing and communicating the correct Change approach together with your Change Sponsor is key. But how do you select the right approach? How do you convince your Sponsor who wants to have an effectual change? In this session, Bert van der Hooft MCM will facilitate an interactive session in which you will learn to convince your Sponsor about the right Change Approach. He will share two essential instruments for defining and communicating the Change Strategy and influencing your Change Sponsors and Stakeholders. Do note that you will be invited to a short online presentation as a preparation (or pre-read) in order to ensure you understand more of the content which contain technical terms. If you wish to attend this session, please ensure that you make time to read this presentation so you can get the most value out of the session. You will receive the link several days before the session. Bert van der Hooft has been working in Project & Programme Management for years. Bert has a degree in Change Management and is a lecturer at the Rotterdam Business School (MBA) as well a lecturer at AOG School of Management in the Strategic Programme Management faculty. He is the "shareman" of the Management of Change Cooperative, a Training Institute specialized in Change.

Storytelling Everybody has a story, but it is seldom told. In our professional lives we prefer to stay with the facts, which ends up in a lot of boring presentations in which good intentions disappears in explanation and technical jargon. In this session Theo Hendriks lets you embrace the power of Storytelling. Theo will share the basics of Storytelling and challenge you to share your inspiring and captivating story, which will can give a boost to the performance of your Project or Programme with stories that go straight to people’s heart and mind. If you are searching for a way to make your presentations more captivating and interesting, you should add this session to your ‘TO ATTEND’ list! Theo is an author of Storytelling books and won in 2010 the European Excellence award (category Change Communication).

LAGANT Management Consultants

Project- en programma management

First ACP training in the Netherlands In the past spring period Lagant Management Consultants organized the first ACP (Agile Certified Practitioner) training in the Netherlands. A mixed group of 12 project managers and business change consultants participated in the training. Several of them had already concrete experience in realizing projects by using Agile related methods like Scrum. The primary goal for participating was to learn more about why and how to manage projects in an Agile way. Secondary goal for some participants was to prepare themselves for the PMI- ACP exam. This 3 day training is structured around the competence domains: • Value based delivery • Stakeholder engagement • Boosting team performance • Adaptive planning • Problem detection and resolution • Continuous improvement In session 1 extra attention was payed to the Agile project management process and relevant management documents. This enabled a comparison with other known project management methods like PMBoK and PRINCE2. By using R. Turners (R.J. Turner& R. Cochrane Goals and methods matrix; coping with projects with ill-defined goals and /or methods of achieving them, International Journal of Project management 11(2) 93-102, 1993) typology of projects participants became aware of the need to adjust project management methods like Agile to the complexity and dynamic character of projects. Important Agile principles and several Agile development methods were introduced. In session 2 extra attention was payed to the metrics in several competences domains, for instance investment calculation, risk based prioritization, network planning, velocity calculation, earned value analysis. In session 3 extra attention was payed to servant leadership and personal consequences for project managers when running projects in an Agile way with self-organizing and selfdirecting teams. Models on how to link Agile project management to higher level project governance were introduced. The didactic model behind the training is based on the 70 (application) /20 ( coaching) /10 ( instruction) approach. This means that most effective learning derives from sharing knowledge and applying knowledge in the daily operations with others. So participants were asked to acquire new knowledge by self-study using Lagant’s Agile project management elearning environment ( this encloses amongst others a great number of multiple choice questions to check the student’s capability to reproduce knowledge) and the book of Mike Griffith on PMI-ACP exam prep. In the training itself we used the Scum review technique to check knowledge “gaps”. When necessary the trainer and more experienced participants filled in these gaps. This enabled a value driven approach. Most of the available training hours were spend on simulation and “sensing” of Scrum based team work, integration of “new” Agile and “current” project management knowledge, scenario related assignments, ●●● 12

finding out what could be an effective Agile approach in the participants’ daily project management practice. Every session was closed with a retrospective to find out ways to improve the knowledge productivity of the training. When reflecting on the first ACP training, here are some learnings. Seen from the objective perspective of the participants the focus on integration and application of Agile project management knowledge has been successful. In this case it is important that participants are at least familiar with management of complex projects. Some of the participants should have Agile project management/ Scrum experiences in order to share knowledge and learn from others instead of a traditional trainer. In cases where exam preparation have more priority, a traditional approach of “ power point based” knowledge introduction could be appropriate. John Griffith’s book and Lagant’s e- learning environment proved to be of high value in the learning process. “Sensing” the Agile way of working, for instance by using Scrum techniques like Kanban board, creativity /innovation techniques, stand ups, retrospection and review, is a valuable learning item for more traditional project managers. Making the team of participants responsible for their knowledge process, for instance by rotating the Scrum master role when doing a review, has been successful to understand the concept of self-directing teams. Acquiring knowledge by means of self-study is an investment in time that is not always easy to combine with a heavily loaded agenda of several participants. So it should be emphasized in every session that self-study is necessary to be able to break away from the knowledge consuming attitude that characterizes traditional training. Please contact janssenduyghuysen@lagant.nl if you want to learn more about this ACP training.
