Chapter meetings news December

December 20th 2016 at CGI Rotterdam - Project Manager Skills: The art of asking Questions & Influencing – getting the RIGHT things done! Projects are about change. Change is about impact to the organization and its employees and therefore a complex playing field with various different personal desires, requirements and objectives of the different stakeholders. Sometimes the scope of the project needs to be challenged to ensure that the project team works towards the right project outcome. An outcome valuable for the whole organization. However sometimes these outcomes do not align with expectations of the project sponsor. It’s the integrity of the project manager that paves the way forward, sometimes with results that are conflicting to some stakeholder’s desires. And when stakeholders are not aligned and have conflicting interests, how does the project manager ensure- the project will still be successful? How does one influence stakeholders in a way that brings alignment and focus again? Asking the right questions and influencing are the skills that will be addressed by Rob Agelink, Director Consulting at CGI and Bert van de Hooft, Managing Partner and Change Manager at Management of Change. Agenda: 17:00 Registration, sandwiches and refreshments 18:00 Opening, welcome and introduction by the PMI Netherlands Chapter 18:05 Introduction of our host CGI – Drs. Jos Gielkens, Project Director and PMI Lead at CGI 18:15 Asking the Right Questions – Drs. Rob Agelink Director Consulting at CGI The art of asking the right questions is a true skill of coaches. The project manager has a coaching role these days, but in order to set the direction of the project and work towards the desired outcome, asking the right questions might no doubt be a very critical success factor for project managers in various situations. 19:00 Break 19:15 Workshop Effectual Influencing as a Project Manager – Drs. Bert van der Hooft Managing Partner and Change Manager at Management of Change. In this highly interactive workshop you learn to choose consciously and execute your influence strategy in order to become a more effectual influencer. You will receive an instrument that you can use in your daily work. At the end of the workshop you are better able to avoid the pitfalls of your influencing. Do come and learn to be more effectual in influencing. This workshop received almost 5 out of 5 stars in this year’s previous sessions. 20:15 Wrap-up & Networking drink 20:45 Closure As a project manager you are faced with the task to influence others. You are often under (time) pressure and you experience that your influencing is not always successful. You want to understand why and learn how to improve it. Chapter Meeting news January

PMI NL Chapter 25 January 2017 @TNO Utrecht – 'Feel the Fieldlab' The Internet of Things, Smart Industry 4.0, BIG DATA, terms that buzzed in 2016 and are backed up with real-life artefacts that you know of. To start our year 2017 with a new and surprising session we want you to feel the fieldlab, where innovations start. Sure you have encountered some manifestations in professional and personal life: the smart thermometer, smart meeting room, smart reader, smart refrigerator, smart grid. How do these come about? Many innovations stem from specific companies or a cooperation between organizations. TNO connects people and knowledge to create innovations, that boost the sustainable competitive strength of industry and well-being of society. The development of innovations is done in Innovation Hub’s or fieldlabs. What will you take home from this? In the PMI Talent Triangle this falls hooks up to 'Business strategy'. It will help you to understand the innovative activities. Yes in our daily job we work on change through projects and programs, but we will receive an insight how to set up innovation and what are the main areas of attention to improve. Senior Project Manager Technical Services Peter Laloli will take us through the organization of field labs within TNO. He is a member of the Project Leaders Guild and will present a compelling story of innovation, working together, celebrating success and experincing failure. The second half of the event will be devoted to Diversity & Inclusion, a new activity within the Netherlands chapter More information will be published on the website shortly.

How do aspects of diversity like culture, age and gender etc. affect our professional and personal lives? How can we make Project management delivery in a globalizing world more successful? How can we encourage even more creativity and excitement at work or in our lives when dealing with other cultures? To tackle all these questions, the PMI Netherlands Chapter has started up a new initiative: The Diversity & Inclusion Local Interest Work Group (LIWg). The LIWg’s main objective is to stimulate inclusiveness and develop skills on how to deal with diversity within project management to our Chapter members by encouraging diversity, harmony, equality and understanding.

Enthusiastic Educational Foundation Activities Kick Off

GHANA: Accra Flooding Initiative – Any help welcome!

On November 22nd the LIWg PMI-EF Activities Kick Off took place at the premises of Hewlett Packard Enterprise in Amstelveen. A dozen enthusiastic volunteers discussed the approach and detailed plan, and agreed on next actions to be taken.

The “Project Management without Borders” Foundation One of our alliance has initiated a project to help the city of Accra (Ghana) which faces frequent flooding (and casualties), and is not able to surmount all related urgent initiatives required to solve this durably. The aim is to recommend a solution for this problem to the community and local institutions in Accra and then to implement the same. This is a unique opportunity to engage PMI members, who are keen to share their water management expertise, and to collaborate on an interesting project which would really help a population in need. PMI Belgium, PMI Unite Kingdom and Delft Technical University are already supporting this initiative. They have asked our Chapter to In this regard, looking for interested volunteers and any contacts that you may have in the world of water-works,

We also played the very first game that was translated from English to Dutch, ‘Het Torenspel’ (The Tower Game). In this way we tested the material while at the same time having some fun together as well….

"dammen bouwen" civil engineering. Please mail to president@pmi-netherlands-chapter.org
