Editor’s note Welcome 2017. For most of us, we start making our New Year’s resolution. These are usually common areas where we want to improve on ourselves. Whereas for others it’s a moment to reflect on last year’s goals. If they are not written clearly with a plan, they remain a wish list. Guess what, by next December you don’t have a clue on what goals you have really achieved. Agree? 2017 is considered as Year of the Fire Rooster according to the Chinese lunar calendar which will be celebrated this coming 28th of January. As Asian People see it, the year 2017 is a year dominated by the orientation towards progress. As with PMI Netherlands chapter, we start the year sharing information and events that you may need to include in your 2017 plan. In this issue, we are enlisting upcoming events that may support your networking, career development and training plan to support your PDUs build up. And finally, we look forward to engaging and supporting your progress in 2017

Chapter meetings news February 2017 February 15th 2017 at IBM Amsteradam – “The Agile wave: Project Managers are not dinosaurian after all!” The statements are plenty: Project Managers are not required anymore if we run our projects the Agile way. Just an agile selfsteering team with a scrum master and a product owner will do the job. The team continues until the customer is happy, no documentation required. Agile is about continuous adapting and going faster; which indeed is required in this fast moving world! Agile works for IT software development. Just take a Scrum training and add a bit of the SAFe methodology and your software development will thrive!
But is it true? Are all the claims correct? How does Agile relate to SAFe? What is the difference between Agile and Scrum? Can we do Project Portfolio Management with Agile or do we need SAFe or perhaps even something else? And what about the role of the Project Manager? Is it really disappearing? On February 15 we will explore all of the above under the compelling leadership and guidance ofArie van Bennekum. Arie is a renowned speaker and has featured in many key note session all around the world being one of the authors (and the only European) of the Agile Manifesto. And he doesn’t debate on the basis of theories only, rather he brings 22 years of handson agile development to the table and he is working on a daily basis on continuous improvement, learning and innovating with his teams. Arie will first address the Agile story by bringing you up to date on the concept Agile, while doing this he will touch on different methods like AgilePM, Integrated Agile, SAFe, Scrum, Kean, KanBan, etc. Next we will start the debate with the audience (you!). So please bring all the questions you always wanted to have answered by the expert and we will have an interesting and vibrant evening! The second half of this exhilarating evening, we will be brought back to earth by means of a recap of what PMI NL has provided you in 2016, how PMI NL is doing from an operations and financial point of view and what the ambition for 2017 will be. PMI Netherlands Chapter President Rommert Stellingwerf will chair this session. So please join us at the Netherlands Chapter Meeting at IBM, Amsterdam on Wednesday February 15! Agenda: 17:00 - Registration, sandwiches and refreshments 18:00 - Welcome and introduction by the PMI NL Chapter 18:05 - Introduction of our host IBM – Bert Luppens, Executive Project Manager and PM Practice Leader, IBM NL 18:15 - Project Management and Agile: what does the future bring - Arie van Bennekum *, Agile Thought leader at Wemanity Group, Chair elect of the Agile Consortium International. Does Agile deliver as promoted and how to see related initiatives like SAFe, Scrum, AgikePM, KanBan and…. what is the role of the project manager?? Top
